A semi-actively controlled impact system which adjusts an impulse exerted by the external impact is studies. The main control variables are internal pressure difference inside the cylinder and the shock absorber displacement while it travels. Compared to a conventional one so called a passive system with a variable orifice inside the cylinder, a semi-actively controlled system utilizes an external orifice controlled by a highly fast responding electrical proportional valve. This device overcomes the temperature and viscosity change due to continuous operating and keeps the desired pressure difference and displacement in every operation. In this article a new prototype impact system is designed and manufactured based on a semi-actively control system. Through computer simulations and experiments, we verify the possibility of controlling the shock absorber pressure and displacement. After investigating the control performance a modified semi-actively controlled system with better control performance is also proposed.
MOV(Main Oxidizer shut-off Valves) control the combustion of launch vehicle systems by the supply and the isolation of liquid oxygen to a main combustion chamber in launch vehicle systems. Moreover, in the steady operational state, the MOV should secure a constant flow rate of liquid oxygen for combustion instability in the combustion chamber. Concerning the development of MOV, TM(Technology Model) has been manufactured and normal operations of the valve have been verified. However, the Cv of TM has been proved to be too low as compared with a design specification value. Therefore, CFD analysis have been performed by modification of the configurations of TM in order to increase sufficiently Cv of EM(Engineering Model), which is the following model of TM. The modifications of TM configurations such as partial scale-up of valve, increase of stroke length, and outlet angle of 120o would result in a considerable augmentation of Cv. It has been verified by flow capacity tests that the improved Cv of EM is min. 212, which is higher than Cv of TM, 161 by about 32%.
The objective of the research was to study the effects a Miller cycle. The engine was dedicated to natural gas usage by modifying pistons, fuel system and ignition systems. The engine was installed on a dynamometer and attached with various sensors and controllers. Intake valve timing, engine speed, load, injection timing and ignition timing are main parameters. Miller Cycle without supercharging can increase brake thermal efficiency 1.08% and reduce brake specific fuel consumption 4.58%. The injection timing must be synchronous with valve timing, speed and load to control the performances, emissions and knock margin. Throughout these tested speeds, original camshaft is recommended to obtain high volumetric efficiency.

Direct drive servovalve(DDV) is a kind of one-stage valve because the main spool valve is directly driven by the DC motor. Since the structure of DDV is simple, it is less expensive, more reliable and offers reduced internal leakage and reduced sensitivity to fluid contamination. However, the flow force effect on the spool motion is significant such that it induces large steady-state error in a step response. If the proportional control gain is increased to reduce the steady-state error, the system becomes unstable. In order to satisfy the system design requirements, the lead-lag controller is designed using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method.

Recently, the efforts to improve fuel economy and to reduce pollutant emission have become the main subject in the development of a gasoline engine. A lean combustion engine admitted as the best alternative is relatively lower fuel consumption rate and exhaust emissions. In this study, it is focused on intensifying intake flow field as one of methods to improve the performance of the lean combustion. First, three different types of suitable swirl control valve(SC7) with high swirl and tumble ratio are selected through steady flow experiment, being installed in a spark ignition engine. The relationship between lean misfire limit and torque was investigated with injection timing and spark ignition timing. Also, the effect of intensified swirl new on the combustion Stability and exhaust emissions was experimently examined by the measuring in-cylinder pressure and combustion variation. The results show that the engine with swirl control calve is superior to other conventional engine on the lean misfire limit, specific torque, combustion variation and emission, and the appropriate injection timing and spark ignition timing exist according to the type of swirl control valve.

Pneumatic system has been mainly used as main equipment for actuation and control of compressed air force in manufacturing industry, pneumatic circuit for the most part is used in Meter-Out circuit. Meter-Out circuit method is Flow Control Valve to fit in exhaust part of cylinder port. In the reverse, Meter-In circuit is Flow Control Valve to fit in input part of cylinder port. This study examines the dynamic characteristics comparison of Meter-In and Meter-Out Circuits in the pneumatic circuits. The results of the experimental research are obtained to the followings: i ) System Response is Meter-In Circuit more than Meter-Out one before cushion zone. ii) we conjectured that the collision of piston and head cover is ease to collide Meter-In Circuit more than Meter-Out one at the stroke end part.

Analyzing internal structure, flow rate and dynamic behavior characteristics of electronically controlled shock absorber, damping performance limit is identified to comprise the two reciprocal characteristics of ride comfort and handling safety. Regardless of its lower performance than the active suspension control system, the semi-active suspension control system has been taking interest because of its absolutely higher performance than passive suspension system. Since the pervious studies have been concentrated mostly on analytic aspect and survey on the internal structure of the shock absorber remain insufficient, the main discourse of this paper is focused on analyzing the nonlinear shock absorber which varies the damping force of semi-active suspension system and the dynamic characteristics of the solenoid valve, a sort of pressure valve, and proposing the design factors of importance.

Transient characteristics of a boiler and turbine system for a steam power plant are simulated. One-dimensional unsteady models are introduced for each component. An interaction between boiler and turbine and a control of the water level in the drum are taken into account. Transient responses of the system to the variations of main system variables such as fuel and air flow rate, cooling water injection rate at the attemperator, gas recirculation rate at the furnace and opening of the turbine control valve are examined. Effect of fluid inertia and tube wall thermal inertia on predicted dynamic behavior is investigated.

In a liquid rocket engine system, the flow of oxidizer into the combustion chamber is controlled by the main oxidizer shut-off valve. When the valve is closed, the oxidizer flows via the recirculation line, not into the combustion chamber. In this situation, the measured pressure could be much higher than a design value because of the water hammer phenomenon. In this paper, the experiments on the water hammer in the recirculation line with different initial conditions were conducted in order to study the pressure wave produced in each case. According to the experimental results, characteristics of the pressure wave in the recirculation line depend on the initial condition. To be specific, the pressure surge is maximized in case that the shock is condensation-oriented in the end of the recirculation line.
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) shows great potential for low $NO_x$ emission but is hampered by the problem of no direct method to control the combustion process. Therefore, HCCI combustion becomes unstable easily, especially at lower and higher engine load. This paper presents a method to achieve diesel-fueled HCCI combustion, which involves directly injecting diesel fuel into the cylinder before the piston arrives at top dead center in the exhaust stroke and adjusting the valve overlap duration to trap more high temperature residual gas in the cylinder. The combustion stability of diesel-fueled HCCI combustion and the effects of engine load, speed, and valve overlap on it are the main points of investigation. The results show that: diesel-fueled HCCI combustion has two-stage heat release rate (low temperature and high temperature heat release) and very low $NO_x$ emission, combustion stability of the HCCI engine is worse at lower load because of misfire and at higher load because of knock, the increase in engine speed aids combustion stability at lower load because the heat loss is reduced, and increasing negative valve overlap can increase in-cylinder temperature which aids combustion stability at lower load but harms it at higher load.
