  • An inductance measurement method for interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) is proposed in this paper. In this method, the motor is measured at standstill condition, and only a 3-phase voltage source, an oscilloscope and a DC voltage source are required. Depending on the deductive dq-axis voltage equations in the stationary frame of reference, the dq-axis inductances at different current magnitude and vector angle can be calculated by the measured 3-phase voltages and currents. And hence, the saturation and cross-magnetizing effect of the inductances are measurable. This paper introduces the principle equations, experiment setup, data processing, and results comparison on the concentrated-winding and distributed-winding IPMSMs.

  • This paper presents a discriminating algorithm between magnetizing inrush and internal faults of transformers using difference of a differential current. Incase of inrush, change of magnetizing inductance repeats. Thus, second difference of differential current periodically shows pulse while periodic pulse is not represented in case of internal winding fault. The proposed algorithm is suitable irrespective of the amount of remanent flux.

  • This paper discusses general methods of modelling magnetic saturation in steady-state, two-axis (d & q) frame models of dual stator induction generators (DSIG). In particular, the important role of the magnetic coupling between the d-q axes (cross-magnetizing phenomenon) is demonstrated, with and without cross-saturation. For that purpose, two distinct models of DSIGs, with and without cross-saturation, are specified. These two models are verified by an application that is sensitive to the presence of cross-saturation, to prove the validity of these final methods and the equivalence between all developed models. Advantages of some of the models over the existing ones and their applicability are discussed. In addition, an alternative is given to evaluate all saturation factors (static and dynamic) by just calculating the static magnetizing inductance which is simply the magnitude of the ratio of the magnetizing flux to the current. The comparison between the simulation results of the proposed model with experimental results gives a good correspondence, especially at startup.

  • In this paper, the analytical results on the maximum temperature rise estimation, taking account of the magnetizing current, are presented. Magnetizing current effects are considered for the maximum temperature rise estimation during quenches. By introducing the first order model of the infinite solenoids, we calculate the magnetizing and leakage inductances of the coaxial-wound-superconducting transformers. As the permeability of the transformer core increases, so does the magnetizing inductance, while the leakage inductances and the magnetizing current of the transformer go down. These varying permeability effects on maximum temperature rise estimation is applied to the superconducting transformers, of which specifications have already been published. The calculated results showed sufficient margins to the thermal damage.

  • New estimation and tuning schemes of inductance variations for rotor flux oriented (RFO) control of induction motor in field weakening region are presented. Stator transient inductance and stator self inductance are estimated. From estimated stator self inductance. magnetizing inductance is estimated and from estimated stator transient inductance, rotor leakage inductance is estimated. Simulation and experimental results prove the effectiveness of the proposed s scheme in constant torque and field weakening region.

  • This paper describes the efficient design, analysis method and experimental verification of capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer system. A capacitor discharge magnetizer system is used to produce a high current impulse of short duration in this magnetizing fixture. The parasitic resistance and parasitic inductance of the capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer system have been estimated using known air-core test coil. Finite element analysis (using MAXWELL 2-D field simulator) and magnetizing circuit analysis (using SPICE) are also used as part of the design and analysis process of the capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer system. Application study for a magnetizing fixture design is shown. 8-pole magnetizing fixture has been designed and analyzed using finite element analysis. The fixture design for 8-pole magnet are presented along with the experimental results. The experimental results have been achieved using a high-voltage, high-energy capacitor discharge impulse magnetizer and 8-pole iron core fixtures (charging voltage : 2000[V], capacitor bank : 4000[$\mu\textrm{F}$]).

  • The design methodology of an adequate input voltage and magnetizing inductance to minimize reactive power is suggested to design a wireless power transfer (WPT) converter for high-power transfer efficiency. To increase the magnetizing inductance, the turn number of the WPT coil is increased, thus causing high parasitic resistance in the WPT coil. Moreover, the high coil resistance produces high conduction loss in the transfer and receive coils. Therefore, the analysis of conduction loss is used in the design of the WPT coil and the operating point of the WPT converter. To verify the proposed design methodology, the mathematical analysis of the conduction loss is presented by experimental results.

  • This paper presents the dynamic modeling, analysis, and control of an AC/DC/AC-assisted, self-excited induction generator connected to the grid. The dynamic model includes wind turbine models with pitch control, gear boxes, self-excited induction generators, excitation capacitance, inductive load models, controlled six-pulse rectifiers, and novel state-space models of a grid-connected inverter. The system has been simulated to verify its capabilities of buildup voltage, stator flux response, stator phase current, electromagnetic torque, and magnetizing inductance variation during both the dynamic and steady states with a variable-speed prime mover. The complete setup of the above dynamic models was simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

  • Comparing with the conventional transformer without the air gap, a contactless transformer with the large air gap between the long primary winding and the secondary winding has increased leakage inductance and reduced magnetizing inductance. For transferring the primary power to the secondary one, the high frequency series resonant converter has been widely used for the contactless power supply system with the large air gap and the increased leakage inductance of the contactless transformer However, the high frequency series resonant converter has the disadvantages of the low efficiency and high voltage gain characteristics in the overall load range due to the large air gap and the circulating magnetizing current. In this paper, the characteristics of the high efficiency and unit voltage gain are revealed in the proposed three-level series-parallel resonant converter. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 5kW experimental prototype.

  • The leakage inductance of the High frequency Transformer(HFT) in the flyback topology can be used an inductor of the Low Pass Filter(LPF) to reduce ripple and ripple noise in the output voltage. But, the values of leakage inductance and magnetizing inductance in the HFT are within $\pm20[{\%}]$). And the operating temperature of the HFT increased by the leakage inductance. Therefore, the leakage inductance of the HFT in the flyback topology has minimum and the LPF has non-polarity ceramic capacitor in the output stage. In this paper, the LPF in the flyback topoBogy takes PCB capacitor using double layer of PCB without non-polarity ceramic capacitor. Its experimental results show the reduced ripple noise and the reduced ripple in the output stage.
