A Study on the Detecting Method for Underground Pipes Using Magnetic Field (자기장을 이용한 매설배관의 위치탐지에 관한 연구)

  • As increasing underground facilities, more effective management is needed nowadays. It is important to get an accurate information of underground facilities to manage that, so some methods of detecting location - electromagnetic induction method, ground penetration radar method, sonic method - are used to obtain the information of underground facilities. In this study, a magnetic method to detect underground facilities was developed. In the magnetic method, underground facilities are detected by a detector and the magnetic marker which is a permanent magnet and used to marking the location by attaching underground facilities. A proper characteristic of the magnetic marker was optimized by maxwell 20 magnetic field analysis tool, a test field was constructed with the magnetic marker, PVC pipe, and steel pipe under ground 1.5m, and the detector was made by modifying a common ferromagnetic detector. Magnetic strengths of the magnetic marker were measured by the detector at each location in the test field, and analyzed by magnetic field analysis tool in the same condition. In the result, the underground pipes were detectable within the deviation ${\pm}20cm$ at PVC pipe and ${\pm}10cm$ at steel pipe respectively. The steel pipe was more detectable by ferromagnetism. The developed magnetic method can be applied to maintain and manage underground facilities.

The Performance Evaluation of a Hydraulic and Magnetic Clamp Device Manufactured to Transport with Safety the Curved Steel Plate Required for Shipbuilding

  • As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was attempted to realize a magnetic clamp crane system that uses 8 simultaneously actuating individual hydraulic cylinders. Through this approach, a Sr type of ferritic permanent magnet ($SrO{\cdot}6Fe_2O_3$), not the previously employed electro-magnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the heavy weighted and oversized curved steel plates used for manufacturing the ships. This study is aimed at manufacturing and developing the hydraulic magnetic clamp prototype, which is composed of three main parts - the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint - in order to safely transport such curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research was pursued to conduct a performance evaluation as to the prototype manufacture and acquire the planned quantity value and the development purpose items. The most significant item for a performance evaluation was estimated for the magnetic adhesive force (G) and in this process, a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc) was utilized. In addition, other relevant items such as hoist tension (kN), transportation time (sec), and the applied load (Kgf) exerted on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to acquire the optimum quantity value. As a result of the evaluation, the relevant device turned out to be suitable for safely transporting the curved steel plates.

  • In the paper, we propose a design method for the logistics transportation system using magnetic levitation that has a good characteristics without mechanical friction, noise and dust. The proposed transportation system consists of a levitation control system and a propulsion control system. Magnetic levitation system is an electromagnetic suspension system in which electromagnet generates magnetic attractive force and the attractive force pulls the rail. We design a PID controller for the current control of electromagnets. We use linear induction motors for propulsion of the proposed logistics transportation system and adapt the space vector PWM method for the propulsion control system. The proposed transportation system using magnetic levitation is verified performances through levitation and propulsion experiments.

Spin-polarization and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism in GaAs

  • The combination of angular spin momentum with electronics is a promising successor to charge-based electronics. The conduction bands in GaAs may become spin-polarized via optical spin pumping, doping with magnetic ions, or induction of a moment with an external magnetic field. We investigated the spin populations in GaAs with x-ray magnetic circular dichroism for each of these three cases. We find strong anti-symmetric lineshapes at the Ga $L_3$ edge indicating conduction band spin splitting, with differences in line width and amplitude depending on the source of spin polarization.

  • In order to smoothly control the speed of the induction motor, it is necessary to obtain the required rotor speed information. In order to obtain the speed information, it must be obtained using a sensor, but it can also be obtained using an appropriate algorithm without using a sensor. In order to obtain speed information, a system was designed using a model reference adaptive system (MARS). Indirect vector control, one of the speed control methods of induction motors, was calculated from the motor current and rotor parameter values. The method of obtaining the position information of the magnetic flux by combining the slip frequency with the rotor speed was used. It is possible to simply perform instantaneous current control in a wide speed range without actual magnetic flux information, and has the advantage that the structure of the controller is simple. Therefore, in this paper, the control system was constructed based on the indirect vector control method, and the speed control system of the induction motor was developed by estimating the required rotor speed information as an intelligent algorithm developed without using it as a sensor.

  • In this paper, we have proposed high power generator with Induction Voltage Adder of three cells. IVA which has n cells can generate n-th times high power pulse, is a more stable system than Marx generator in the view of breakdown. We applied amorphous metal magnetic cores as an energy storing material for IVA rather than ferrite cores because of their higher magnetic flux swing to make it more compact system and the loss of it was also considered in the design. For driving the IVA, we design Blumlein pulse generators which are filled with pure water for high dielectric constant and high breakdown field strength, and triggered by single Marx generator. We have presented the PSPICE simulation and its test result.

  • The induction heating is more efficient for a plate bending because of its easy operation and control of working parameters compared with the heating by torch. In this study, a more efficient method was proposed for the prediction of plate bending. The existing analysis method using the axi-symmetric coil model could not handle the varying temperature during the heating and the forming process for curved plates like a saddle or a concave type curvature. The proposed method using some discrete steps in this study could overcome these difficulties and show more accurate, reasonable results in temperatures and deflections of fiat or curved plates. This method is composed of multi-disciplinary analyses such as an electro-magnetic analysis, a heat transfer analysis and a deformation analysis based on inherent strain approach.

A Study of Bending Using Long Type Coil by Discrete Method (다분할 해석법에 의한 장형코일의 곡가공 연구)

  • The induction heating is more efficient for a plate bending because of its easy operation and control of working parameters, compared with the heating by a gas torch. The existing axis symmetric analysis method could neither handle initial curved plates nor be used in the optimization of coil shapes because of its limit of an axis symmetric coil shape. But the proposed method using some discrete part models and analysis processes could overcome these difficulties and show more accurate results in temperatures and deflections of flat or curved plates with initial curvature than those in the existing axis symmetric analysis method. This method is composed of the multi-disciplinary analyses such as an electro magnetic analysis, a heat transfer analysis and a deformation analysis based on inherent strain approach per each step. Traditionally, the coil shape in the induction heating is circular shape and it needs the moving process along heating lines. To overcome this, the 'Long Type Coil' with some linear parallel coils was proposed. It did not need the moving process along heating lines and reduced the heating process time. The results of experiments were compared with those of the simulation.

Derivation of Simplified Formulas to Predict Deformations of Plate in Steel Forming Process with Induction Heating (유도가열을 이용한 강판성형공정에서 변형량 예측을 위한 계산식 유도)

  • Recently, the electro-magnetic induction process has been utilizing to substitute the flame heating process in shipyard. However, few studies have been performed to exactly analyze the deformation mechanism of the heating process with mathematical model. This is mainly due to the difficulty of modeling the inductor travelling on plate during the process. In this study, heat flux distribution of the process is firstly numerically analysed with the assumption that the process has a quasi-stationary state and also with the consideration that the heat source itself highly depends on the temperature of base plate. With the heat flux, the thermal and deformation analyses are then performed with a commercial program for 34 combinations of heating parameters. The deformations obtained and heating parameters are synthesized with a statistical method to produce simplified formulas, which easily give the relation between the heating parameters and deformations. The formulas are well compared with results of experiment.
