The effects of exposure to an extremely low-frequency magnetic field (25 Hz 20G) on animal cells have been studied. In some reports, stimulation was performed for fixed frequency and variations in magnitude; however, animal-cell experiments have established that both parameters play an important role. The present work undertook the modeling, simulation, and development of a uniform-magnetic-field generation system with variable frequency and stimulation intensity (0-60 Hz, 1-25G) for experimentation with cell cultures in situ. The results showed a coefficient of variation less than 1 % of the magnetic-field dispersion at the working volume, which is consistent with the corresponding simulation results demonstrating a uniform magnetic field. On the other hand, long-term tests during the characterization process indicated that increments of only $0.4^{\circ}C$ in the working volume temperature will not be an interfering factor when experiments are carried out in in situ cell cultures.
This paper presents the development of the optical switch using magnetic behavior of magnetic fluids, which is expected to be used broadly in high-speed information communication. The magnetic fluids for switching an incident light, have the magnetic characteristics of magnetic materials and fluidity of liquids, simultaneously. The relations are derived between the intensity of magnetic field and the angle of optical fiber which is bent by a behavior of magnetic fluid when the magnetic field is applied. When optical switch is implemented by the movement of liquid using magnetic fluid, the existing problem of durability for optical switch will be improved. Thus, this study shows the feasibility of the application for the optical switches using magnetic fluids.

It is well known that Grain-oriented electrical steel sheets have two dimensional magnetic properties according to the direction of exciting field such as non-linear phase difference between magnetic flux density and magnetic field intensity vectors, different iron loss and permeability even when an alternating magnetic field is applied. The measurement and application of the two dimensional magnetic properties of the Grain-oriented electrical steel sheets, therefore, are very important for the design and precise performance analysis of electric machines made of them. As the direction of exciting field changes, in this paper, the two dimensional magnetic properties of a Grain-oriented electrical steel sheet, i.e., non-linear B-H curves, phase difference between B and H, and iron loss characteristics, are measured using SST(Single Sheet Tester) which has two axes excitation. The measured results are presented in two ways: using $(B,\theta_B)$ method and using hysteresis loops along rolling and transverse directions, respectively.

We examined the tunneling current behaviors of magnetic tunneling junction (MTJ) cells utilizing conductive atomic force microscopy (AFM) interfaced with an external magnetic field generator. By introducing current through coils, a magnetic field was generated and then controlled by a current feedback circuit. This enabled the characterization of the tunneling current under various magnetic fields. The current-voltage (I-V) property was measured using a contact mode AFM with a metal coated conducting cantilever at a specific magnetic field intensity. The obtained magnetoresistance (MR) ratios of the MTJ cells were about 21% with no variation seen from the different sized MTJ cells; the value of resistance $\times$ area (RA) were 8.5 K-12.5 K $({\Omega}{\mu}m^2)$. Since scanning probe microscopy (SPM) performs an I-V behavior analysis of ultra small size without an extra electrode, we believe that this novel characterization method utilizing an SPM will give a great benefit in characterizing MTJ cells. This novel method gives us the possibility to measure the electrical properties of ultra small MTJ cells, namely below $0.1\;{\mu}m\;{\times}\;0.1\;{\mu}m$.

A numerical study was conducted on the optimum magnetic field intensity and asymmetric factor for uniform axial oxygen concentration in 8 inch silicon single crystal growing process by magnetic Czochralski method. For constant shape of cusp field, a change of coil and crucible position were compared. In case of symmetric cusp field, magnetic field intensity variation shows concave downward with crystal growing for uniform, axial oxygen concentration. A numerical results show similar value of standard deviation of average oxygen concentration for uniform oxygen concentration between coil and crucible position change. In case of asymmetric cusp field. asymmetric factor is increased with crystal growing to have uniform oxygen concentration.
To investigate physical properties of Solar pores, we use SDO/HMI data from 2010 to 2013. For this, we select single and isolated pores from the active region (Axx, Bxo, Bxi and Bxc-type) listed in Solar Region Summary. Pore is defined by connected pixels satisfying the intensity threshold from pixel of minimum intensity. We try to obtain area, intensity, magnetic field, and Doppler velocity of pores from HMI data. After removing the effects of orbital motion of the SDO satellite and differential rotation of the Sun, we identify that significant daily variations of Doppler velocity with non-zero ordinates still remain in the umbral region, and the artifact is quite dependent on the strength of magnetic field and radial component of velocity of SDO satellite. In this study we develope empirical model to remove the artifact. A preliminary result on the elimination of the artifact will be presented.

Non-contact critical current measurement apparatus was developed using hall probe which measures the magnetic field distribution across the width of superconducting tape. The hall probe consists of 7 independent hall sensors which lie in a line 600 ${\mu}m$. The difference between maximum and minimum magnetic field in the magnetic filed distribution is a main parameter to determine the critical current. As preliminary research, we calculated the magnetic field intensity at the middle sensor, which is a minimum magnetic field and generated by the circular shielding current modeled by Bean model. We confirmed that there are some parameters that affect on the minimum magnetic field; the distance between superconducting layer and hall sensor, the width of superconducting tape, and the critical current distribution across the width of superconducting tape. Among these parameters, the distance between superconducting layer and hall sensor highly influences on the minimum magnetic field.

A numerical study was conducted on the effects of the cusp magnetic field in 8" silicon single crystal grwoth by Czochralski method. For a damping effects simulation by magnetic field, low reynolds number ${\kappa} - {\varepsilon}$ model was adopted. Symmetrci cusp magnetic field has a effect of damping streamline crystal, is lowerd with the increasing cusp magnetic field intensity. The uniformity of the oxygen concentration was improved. The asymmetirc cusp magnetic field increased the oxygen concentration however, oxygen concentration distribution in the radial direction was remained uniform. Suitable combination of symmetric and asymmetric cusp magnetic fields could give uniform and low oxygen concentration in the axial direction.tion.

A magnetic device which enables the application of a strong and uniform magnetic field to thin film during sputtering was designed for controlling the magnetic anisotropy using a three dimensional finite element method, and the effects of the external magnetic field on the magnetic properties of sputtered thin films were investigated. Both the intensity and the uniformity of the magnetic flux density in the sputter zone (50 mm ${\times}$50 mm) was dependent on not only the shape and size of the magnet device but also the magnitude of stray fields from the magnet. For the magnet device in which the distance between two magnets or two pure iron bars was 80-90 mm, the magnetic flux density along the direction normal to the external magnetic field direction was minimum. The two row magnets increased the magnetic flux density and uniformity along the external magnetic field direction. An Fe thin film sputtered using the optimized magnet device showed a higher remanence ratio than that fabricated under no external magnetic field.

Application of magnetic fields is important to characterize the carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum structures. We performed photoluminescence (PL) measurements from an InGaP-AlInGaP single quantum well under pulsed magnetic fields to 50 T. The zero field interband PL transition energy matches well with the self-consistent Poisson-Schr?dinger equation. We attempted to analyze the dimensionality of the quantum well by using the diamagnetic shift of the magnetoexciton. The real quantum well has finite thickness that causes the quasi-two-dimensional behavior of the exciton diamagnetic shift. The PL intensity diminishes with increasing magnetic field because of the exciton motion in the presence of magnetic field.
