Magnetic field in magnetic bearings is the physical medium to realize magnetic levitation, the distribution of the magnetic field determines the operating performance of magnetic bearings. In this paper, a thin-slice Fiber Bragg Grating-Giant Magnetostrictive Material magnetic sensor used for the air gap of magnetic bearings was proposed and tested in the condition of dynamic magnetic field. The static property of the sensor was calibrated and a polynomial curve was fitted to describe the performance of the sensor. Measurement of dynamic magnetic field with different frequencies in magnetic bearings was implemented. Comparing with the finite element simulations, the results showed the DC component of the magnetic field was detected by the sensor and error was less than 5.87%.
A new method for optimizing the magnetic field gradient in the exciting coil of electronic anti-fouling (EAF) system is presented based on changing exciting coil size. In the proposed method, two optimization expressions are deduced based on biot-savart law. The optimization expressions, which can describe the distribution of the magnetic field gradient in the coil, are the function of coil radius and coil length. These optimization expressions can be used to obtain an accurate coil size if the magnetic field gradient on a certain point on the coil's axis of symmetry is needed to be the maximum value. Comparing with the experimental results and the computation results using Finite Element Method simulation to the magnetic field gradient on the coil's axis of symmetry, the computation results obtained by the optimization expression in this article can fit the experimental results and the Finite Element Method results very well. This new method can optimize the EAF system's anti-fouling performance based on improving the magnetic field gradient distribution in the exciting coil.

The finite element method is very flexible for new shapes and provides flux distribution, magnetomotive force, eddy currents, and torques. However, it requires lengthy computational time in order to achieve desired accuracy. The magnetic equivalent circuit method takes less computation time than the finite element method. Therefore, the finite element method is mainly used to confirm the completed design. The magnetic equivalent circuit method is convenient for complicated analysis of the transient state of the induction motor. The magnetic equivalent circuit method is restricted to only one direction of magnetic flux. In this paper, the construction elements (that is, stator iron, rotor iron, yoke, air gap, etc.) of the squirrel cage induction motor were represented by a flux tube and the air gap magnetomotive force was calculated by the magnetic equivalent circuit method. Starting transient torque and phase current of the squirrel cage induction motor were verified by the theoretical calculation and the experiment.

We use three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations to investigate how the dynamic state of emerging magnetic field is related to the twist of field lines. Emergence of magnetic field is considered as one of the key physical process producing solar activity such as flares, jets, and coronal mass ejections. To understand these activities we have to know dynamic nature and electric current structure provided by emerging magnetic field. To demonstrate dynamic nature of field lines, we focus on the factors such as curvature of magnetic field line and scale height of magnetic field strength. These factors show that strong twist case forms two-part structure in which the central part is close to a force-free state while the outer marginal part is in a fairly dynamic state. For weak twist case, it still shows two-part structure but the tendency becomes weaker than strong twist case. We discuss how the curvature distribution affects the dynamic nature of emerging magnetic field. We also investigate electric current distribution provided by emerging field lines to show a possible relation between electric current structure and sigmoid observed in a preflare phase.
An investigation of the effects of transverse magnetic field on melt convection and macrosegregation in vertical Bridgman growth of Te doped InSb was carried out by means of microstructure observation, the measurement of Te distribution by Hall measurement, electrical resistivity measurement and X-ray analysis. Prior to the experiments, interface stability, convective instability and suppression of convection by magnetic field were examined. A thermosolutal convection in the Te doped InSb melt occurred in the examined growth condition without magnetic field. The effective distribution coefficient, $K_{eff}$, was about 0.35 without magnetic field, 0.45 with magnetic field of 2kG, and 0.7 at 4kG. It was found that the stronger the applied magnetic field was, the more the convection was suppressed.
X-ray resonant magnetic scattering (XRMS) allows us to extract magnetic depth profiles in magnetic multilayers and magnetization distribution in magnetic nanostructures in element-specific manner using x-ray reflectivity and diffraction. XRMS is explained with a brief introduction and examples of magnetic structures and magnetic switching mechanism in magnetic multilayers and nanostructures.

Background: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) plans in prostate cancer are compared and analyzed to investigate the low magnetic effect (0.35 T) on the dose distribution, with various dosimetric parameters according to low magnetic field. Materials and Methods: Twenty patients who received a 36.25 Gy in five fractions using the MR-IGRT system (ViewRay) were studied. For planning target volume (PTV), the point mean dose ($D_{mean}$), maximum dose ($D_{max}$), minimum dose ($D_{min}$) and volumes receiving 100% ($V_{100%}$), 95% ($V_{95%}$), and 90% ($V_{90%}$) of the total dose. For organs-at-risk (OARs), the differences compared using $D_{max}$, $V_{50%}$, $V_{80%}$, $V_{90%}$, and $V_{100%}$ of the rectum; $D_{max}$, $V_{50%}$, $V_{30Gy}$, $V_{100%}$ of the bladder; and $V_{30Gy}$ of both left and right femoral heads. For both the outer and inner shells near the skin, $D_{mean}$, $D_{min}$, and $D_{max}$ were compared. Results and Discussion: In PTV analysis, the maximum difference in volumes ($V_{100%}$, $V_{95%}$, and $V_{90%}$) according to low magnetic field was $0.54{\pm}0.63%$ in $V_{100%}$. For OAR, there was no significant difference of dose distribution on account of the low magnetic field. In results of the shells, although there were no noticeable differences in dose distribution, the average difference of dose distribution for the outer shell was $1.28{\pm}1.08Gy$ for $D_{max}$. Conclusion: In the PTV and OARs for prostate cancer, there are no statistically-significant differences between the plan calculated with and without a magnetic field. However, we confirm that the dose distribution significantly increases near the body shell when a magnetic field is applied.
A rotating magnetic field (RMF) was applied in the solidification process of Cu-8Fe alloy. Focus on the mechanism of RMF on the solid solution Fe(Cu) atoms in Cu-8Fe alloy, the influences of RMF on solidification structure, solute distribution, and material properties were discussed. Results show that the solidification behavior of Cu-Fe alloy have influenced through the change of temperature and solute fields in the presence of an applied RMF. The Fe dendrites were refined and transformed to rosettes or spherical grains under forced convection. The solute distribution in Cu-rich phase and Fe-rich phase were changed because of the variation of the supercooling degree and the solidification rate. Further, the variation in solute distribution was impacted the strengthening mechanism and conductive mechanism of the material.
The magnetic nondestructive test can be applied to evaluate the magnetic material characteristics and the fracture properties through the internal defects of SA-508 used in the pressure vessels of the nuclear power plants as the direct and accurate in-situ testing methods. The fracture toughness, yield strength and the stress distribution around the defects in the surface and sub-surface of magnetic materials can be directly estimated by Bark-hausen noise(BN) methods as NDT. The testing process of SA-508 by Barkhausen noise method was advanced by controlling the austenizing peak temperature and the time of maintenance at a constant austenizing peak temperature, therefore causing the variation of fracture toughness. Through above process. we can evaluate the variations of effective grain size and the correlation of effective grain size and FATT at each situation. And the stress distribution around the defects can be quantified nondestructively through Barkhausen method.
