The Propagation of Cosmic Ray in Protoplanetary Disks

  • For the development of magneto rotational instability, which drives mass accretion in protoplanetary disks, sufficient ionization degree is needed. Cosmic rays are believed to be one of the dominant ionization sources for protoplanetary disk gas. In previous studies, ionization rates are computed by considering the effect of attenuation of the cosmic ray (CR) intensity as a function of column density in an unmagnetized cloud. However, in reality particles should sweep up larger column density to reach at the midplane of disk due to their gyromotion. In this study, we investigate the propagation of CR protons in a protoplanetary disk by solving transport and energy loss equations. We discuss the change in CR intensity due to magnetic field in a protoplanetary disk.

CONSTRAINING THE MAGNETIC FIELD IN THE ACCRETION FLOW OF LOW-LUMINOSITY ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI

  • Observations show that the accretion flows in low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) probably have a two-component structure with an inner hot, optically thin, advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) and an outer truncated cool, optically thick accretion disk. As shown by Taam et al. (2012), within the framework of the disk evaporation model, the truncation radius as a function of mass accretion rate is strongly affected by including the magnetic field. We define the parameter ${\beta}$ as $p_m=B^2/8{\pi}=(1-{\beta})p_{tot}$, (where $p_{tot}=p_{gas}+p_m$, $p_{gas}$ is gas pressure and $p_m$ is magnetic pressure) to describe the strength of the magnetic field in accretion flows. It is found that an increase of the magnetic field (decreasing the value of ${\beta}$) results in a smaller truncation radius for the accretion disk. We calculate the emergent spectrum of an inner ADAF + an outer truncated accretion disk around a supermassive black hole by considering the effects of the magnetic field on the truncation radius of the accretion disk. By comparing with observations, we found that a weaker magnetic field (corresponding to a bigger value of ${\beta}$) is required to match the observed correlation between $L_{2-10keV}/L_{Edd}$ and the bolometric correction $k_{2-10keV}$, which is consistent with the physics of the accretion flow with a low mass accretion rate around a black hole.

  • To reduce the spin-off of lubricants on a magnetic disk, which is caused by the radial component of shear force between the disk and air, we analyzed the air-velocity distribution and the air-shear force by three-dimensional large-eddy simulation (LES). This sensitivity analysis, on five design parameters, showed that disk/arm clearance and arm thickness have a greater effect on the mean radial air-shear force than the other parameters. The force on a disk optimized according to the optimum parameters is 12% less than the force on a conventional disk.

  • This paper presents the experimental study for the reduction of transmitted shock waves in smart structures incorporating MR insert. MR fluid is filled within the two aluminum layers and two piezoceramic disks are embedded on the host plate as a transmitter and a receiver of the shock wave. Pulse wave generated by the transmitter is transmitted to the receiver through the MR insert and the plate. By applying magnetic field to the MR insert, the amplitude of the transmitted shock wave is reduced remarkably. The attenuation performance is tested by changing the applied magnetic field on MR inserts in two ways: by changing angle of permanent rubber magnet from 90 to 5 with 5 decrements, by using electromagnet in which magnetic field is controllable. The propagating wave speed of MR insert is also investigated.

원판형 이상체에 의한 자력 및 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식 (Closed-form Expressions of Magnetic Field and Magnetic Gradient Tensor due to a Circular Disk)

  • 화산의 화도나 불발탄과 같이 축 대칭을 갖지만 단면의 반지름이 변하는 경우 대칭축에 수직인 얇은 원판들의 반응을 더하여 모델링하는 것이 효율적이다. 이런 모양의 이상체에 대한 자력 및 자력 변화율 텐서 모델링을 위해서는 얇은 원판에 대한 해석해가 필수적이다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 원판형 이상체에 대한 벡터 자력과 자력 변화율 텐서 반응식을 유도하였다. 벡터 자력은 중력 변화율 텐서를 자력으로 변환하는 포아송 관계식을 이용하여 원판형 이상체의 기존 중력 변화율 텐서로부터 유도하였다. 자력 변화율 텐서는 직교 좌표계의 미분 관계식을 원통 좌표계로 미분 관계식으로 변환한 후 벡터 자력을 미분하여 유도하였다. 벡터 자력과 자력 변화율 텐서는 원판형 이상체의 축 대칭성을 이용한 립쉬츠-한켈(Lipschitz-Hankel) 적분을 기반으로 구하였다.

Collapse of Magnetised, Singular Isothermal Toroids

  • This poster summarizes numerical collapse calculations of non-rotating and rotating singular, isothermal toroids that employed the zeus2d (Norman and Stone 1992) magnetohydrodynamics package. In the non-rotating collapse calculations, it is seen that infall proceeds at a constant rate and magnetically supported, high density pseudo-disks form in the equatorial plane. With rotating clouds, however, toroidal magnetic fields grow as infall proceeds, teaming with angular momentum to slow the inflow to the center and generate outflow.

  • High-velocity clouds are flows of neutral hydrogen, located at high galactic latitudes, with large velocities ($[VLSR]{\ge} 100 km/s$) that do not match a simple model of circular rotation for our Galaxy. Numerical simulations have been performed for the last 20 years to study the details of their evolution, and their possible interaction with the Galactic disk. Here we present a brief review of the models that have been already published, and describe newly performed three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations.

광자기 디스크의 기록 및 자기적 특성에 산소가 미치는 영향 (Effect of Oxygen on the Magnetic and Recording Characteristics of Magneto-Optical Disk)

  • 광자기 디스크의 제조시 기록막내부의 산소함량에 따른 기록 및 자기적 특성의 변화를 연구하였다. 기록막내의 산소함량 변화는 반응성 스퍼터링에 의해 조절하였으며 스퍼터링 전과정 동안 산소의 거동을 in-situ 잔류가스분석기로 조사하였다. 산소함량의 증가에 따라 보자력은 감 소하였으나 수직이방성 및 수직 각형비등은 변화하지 않았다. 대부분의 첨가된 산소는 스퍼터링 과정중 소모되어 Tb원자와 안정한 산화물을 형성하여 자기적 조성의 변화를 초래하였지만 임계기 록크기와 임계외부자계크기에만 약간의 변화를 가져왔을 뿐 디스크의 기록신호잡음비에는 별로 영향을 미치지 않았다. 또한 디스크의 신뢰도면에서도 크게 감소하지 않았다.

초전도 마그네트용 고출력 플럭스 펌프의 특성 (The Characteristics of High Voltage Output Flux Pump for Superconducting Magnet)

  • Using superconducting magnetic flux pump, thick power leads for a superconducting magnet could be replaced with thin string leads for the excitation magnet to the superconducting flux pump. We have developed a new type flux pump with high voltage output to shorten the charge and discharge time of the load magnet. The test of four stacked disks as the excither for the load magnet has been carried out. This disk type flux pump yielded 70 mV of voltage across its terminal and 10 A of current through 85 mH load magnet which was the field winding of 20 kVA class fully superconducting generator within 12 seconds. This output voltage of the new superconducting flux pump is about 10 times larger than that of the previous work Moreover since it is easy to stack the disks for the superconduction flux pump, the high voltage exciter for the 1H class superconducting magnet would be expected to be made easily.
