A novel topology for the magnet gear is proposed in this study. Differently from the existing methods, both sides of magnet array in this topology are used, resulting in increasing the efficiency of the mechanism. The closed magnetic path between the magnetic elements decreases the leakage flux, so the interlinking magnetic flux through the air-gap is focused and intensified. This paper discusses the dominant parameters of the proposed magnet gear influencing the resulting transmission torque. The parameters are designed from the sensitivity analysis using the commercial FEM analysis tool. And, the test setup for verifying the performance of the system is described.

Magnetic Sensors can be employed to localize the unmanned vehicle which is running a predefined path where magnets are embedded for certain spaces. Among various sensor types, sensor arrays of 1-dimensional magnetic sensor have the merit of easy elimination of external magnetic component such as terrestrial magnetism. However, interpolation should be considered in the array sensors in order to increase the precision level because there is a limit in arranging sensors in close interval. We propose the novel interpolation method which can be performed with simple computation and represents the improved accuracy by increasing the linearity of the interaction formula. Demonstration of the linearity and simulation results show the proposed method exhibits the improved accuracy compared to the conventional method.
This paper reports a novel high-speed fluid injection system employing a simple magnetic micoractuator. This magnetic microacutator consists of current carrying copper beams and permanent magnet under the beams. There were many efforts to magnetic microactuator realization using conducting coils [1-2]. Even though many of magnetic microactuators were successfully fabricated and tested, it is true that most them suffer complex fabrication processes and thus higher production costs than electrostatic counterparts. In this research, efforts were concentrated on the microactuator realization that has simple structure, low production cost, and mass production possibility.
Magnetic levitation system with the advantages of non-contact, no friction and no wear can satisfy the requirement of high precision and high speed positioning. In this paper, magnetic levitation positioning stage which mainly consists of planar coil and HALBACH permanent magnet array and its control and driving system are designed. Magnetic levitation system is a highly nonlinear and strongly coupled complex system and its control performance can be influenced by the uncertainty and external disturbance. So exact feedback linearization method is used to realize exact linearization and decoupling, and a strategy of sliding mode control based on disturbance observer is proposed to compensate the uncertainty and external disturbance. Detailed proofs of observer's convergence property and system stability are derived. Both the simulation and experiment results verify the effectiveness of sliding mode control algorithm based on disturbance observer.
We have studied the vortex dynamics in YBa$_2Cu_3O_7$ single crystals with columnar defects using micro Hall-probe array. The Hall-probe array technique allowed a simultaneous measurement of the time and spatial dependence of the vortex density so that more detailed information on flux dynamics could be obtained. We found that field profiles inside sample were similar to the Bean's critical state model from the magnetic hysteresis measurement. Normalized relaxation rates were maximum near the center and decreased toward the edge if applied field H$_{app}$ is greater than the penetration field H. But applied magnetic field H$_{app}$ is less than H, relaxation rates were minimum near the center and increased toward edge. We found that glassy exponent ${\mu}$ has the value of ${\sim}$ 1 whose corresponding vortex motion is half-loop excitation. However, single vortex creep, ${\mu}$${\sim}$ 1/7, was also found at 30 K and H$_{app}$${\cong}$ H'. Calculation of activation energy, U, was possible from direct analysis of the local relaxation data using the basic diffusion equation. From these results, we found that U increases logarithmically with time and U around center was lower than that at the edge.

This paper deals with the generating characteristic analysis of permanent magnet linear generator (PMLG) with double-sided Halbach magnet array mover and three phases concentrated stator windings by using analytical method. On the basis of a magnetic vector potential and Maxwell's equations, governing equations are obtained, and magnetization modeling for Halbach magnet array is performed analytically by using the Fourier series. And then, we obtain electrical parameters such as back-EMF constant, resistance, and coil inductance based on magnetic field calculations. Finally, analytical results for generating performance are confirmed by comparing with finite element analysis results.

This paper treated the design, manufacture and the performance characteristics under each mode of high speed motor/generator for an electro-mechanical battery(EMB). This machine is employed as an integral part of a flywheel energy storage system(FESS), i.e., a modular flywheel system to be used as a device for storing electrical or mechanical energy. In this machine, the magnetic field system is constructed by using special magnet array, dipole Halbach array with 16 permanent magnet segments and the armature is composed of a plastic bobbin and multi-phase windings with Litz wire. The magnet array produces a highly uniform dipole field without back iron. The motor/generator is 3-phase machine in which the dipole Halbach array surrounding the winding is rotating. Since there are no iron laminations, this field system offers some unique advantages for the simplicity of the design and the theoretical prediction of characteristics of a high speed electric machine. This paper describes the results obtained when EMB system was tested in the laboratory.

In this paper, unmanned driving of robotic vehicle using magnetic marker is proposed. One of the most important component of autonomous vehicle is to detect the position of a magnetic marker on the road. In order to calculate the precise position of a magnet embedded on the road, the relation of magnetic field and a sensor is analyzed, and a new position sensing system using arrayed magnetic sensor is proposed. Also, the steering control system using a stepping motor is developed for driving by automatic mode as well as manual mode. For the verification of usability, the developed robotic vehicle is tested on magnetic road.
Purpose : To develop a novel approach to calculate the sensitivity profiles of the phased array coil for use in non-uniform intensity correction. Materials and Methods : The proposed intensity correction method estimates the sensitivity profile of the coil to extract intensity variations that represent the scanned image. The sensitivity profile is estimated by fitting a non-linear curve to various angles of projections through the imaged object in order to eliminate the high-frequency image content. Filtered back projection is then used to compute the estimates of the sensitivity profile of each coil. The method was applied both to phantom and brain images from 8-channel phased-array coil and 4-channel phased-array coil, respectively. Results : Intensity-corrected images from the proposed method have more uniform intensity than those from the commonly used 'sum-of-squares' approach. By using the proposed correction method, the intensity variation was reduced to $6.1\%$ from $13.1\%$, acquired from the 'sum-of-squares'. Conclusion : The proposed method is more effective at correcting the intensity non-uniformity of the phased-array surface-coil images than the conventional 'sum-of-squares' method.
This paper proposes a new linear magnetic damper for absorbing shock from a crash accident involving high speed vehicles. The magnetic damper is composed of a conductive plate, a yoke and permanent magnets which are constructed to a Halbach array to improve the damping force. In order to calculate the damping force, finite element analysis(FEA) using J-Mag, a commercial FEA tool, is performed and the results are validated by the experiment. Also, the design optimization of the plate generating the eddy current causing the damping force performed to obtain the most efficient damping force. Finally, the specifications and the performance of the proposed magnetic damper are represented.
