  • A magnetic levitation system with hybrid magnets, which is composed of permanent magnets and electromagnets, consumes less power than the conventional attraction type system. In this paper, we propose PID controller and PID-Fuzzy controller for hybrid magnet. We first present "constant gap" control technology with PID controller. Secondly, "zero power" control technology with PID-Fuzzy hybrid controller is presented.roller is presented.

  • This paper presents the overall design, manufacture, and test result of the high capacity (more than 150 Am^2) magnetic torquer for the use of satellite control. To provide an electrical current to the magnetic torquer, the driving electronics is also constructed. The integration and test of the magnetic torquer and its driving electronics are performed via the magnetic field measurement according to the distance and the magnetic torque measurement with torque-meter. To compare the performance obtained from the test results we also perform computer simulation with three-dimensional model.

  • It is important to estimate the distribution of intensity of a magnetic field for application of magnetic method to industrial nondestructive evaluation. Magnetic camera provides the distribution of a quantitative magnetic field with homogeneous lift-off and same spatial resolution. And it is possible to interpret the distribution of the magnetic field when the dipole model is introduced. This study introduces the numerical and experimental considering of the quantitative evaluation of several size and shapes of the cracks using the magnetic field images of the scan type magnetic camera.

Time Optimal Attitude Maneuver of Three-Axis Spacecraft with only Magnetic Toquer

  • This paper presents the time optimal reorientation solution of three-axis spacecraft which has only three magnetic torquers. It has been very difficult problem because the magnetic torquer generates only perpendicular to Earth magnetic field vector. In this paper, minimum-time solution using only magnetic torquer is solved using collocation method and nonlinear programming solver NPSOL. IGRF Earth magnetic field model used to simulate magnetic field. The result is verified by comparing to the result of numerical integration. The solution is obtained for the various reorientation maneuver of three axes rigid spacecraft. And the results show that all three axes of rigid spacecraft are controlled effectively only by magnetic torqure.

  • The objectives of this paper are to establish an equivalent magnetic circuit of the hybrid PM step motor and to apply the canonical piecewise linear eqation and the Kazenelson algorithm of solving the nonlinear magnetic circuit, so that the static holding torque and the magnetic properties of the motor are determined. The results of that are applied to the design of the hybrid step motor.

  • This paper presents a procedure to design a real time control system for a magnetic levitation system based on the state space approach by adopting a control method compensating attractive force according to load variation of maglev vehicle. Also the paper has realized a robust control algorithm for the change of self-inductance parameters and the disturbance such as the change of mass of Maglev vehicles. The theoretical results are applied to the gap control problems of an attractive-type-magnetic levitation system and the effectiveness is proved by the implementation of digital control using 16 bits microcomputer.

  • Optimal control systems for a radial magnetic bearing are proposed and tested. An electromagnet system model is developed to predict bearing forces as functions of changing coil currents and rotor position. Models of the multi-mass rotor supported by the magnetic bearings are developed and confirmed, and theoretical relationships are expressed in the form of state equation. As a result of computer simulation, the state feedback with optimal procedure is considered to be more effective for magnetic bearing systems than the classical method.

  • In this paper, we design the state feedback gain using linear matrix inequality(LMI) to the multiobjective synthesis, in the magnetic bearing system with integral type servo system. The design objectives can be a H$\_$$\infty$/ performance, asymptotic disturbance rejection, time-domain constraints, on the closed-lnp pole location. To the end, we investigated the validity of the designed controller through results of simulation.

  • MFL(Magnetic Flux Leakage) methods are used extensively for inspection of ferromagnetic materials. As an example, pipelines that are buried underground are inspected using MFL methods. By the MFL methods, ferromagnetic pipelines are magnetized by a permanent magnet or an electromagnet and then flux leakage is detected at the defection position. In this paper, we perform modeling of the magnetized pipelines. Also we propose the method localization of th defected areas. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified experimentally.
