This paper describes an on-line magnetic distortion calibration procedure for a magnetometer. The horizontal magnetic field is calculated through the earth magnetic field sensed by 3-axes magnetometer. The ellipse equation is derived from a set of horizontal magnetic field data using least square method and calibration parameters are determined. The calibration process is performed iteratively until parameters are not renewed, and experimental results show the effectiveness of the devised method.
In this paper, control of an omni-directional mobile robot is presented. Relying on encoder measurements to define the azimuth angle yields the dead-reckoned situation which the robot fails in localization. The azimuth angle error due to dead-reckoning is compensated and corrected by the magnetic compass sensor. Noise from the magnetic compass sensor has been filtered out. Kinematics and dynamics of the omni-directional mobile robot are derived based on the global coordinates and used for simulation studies. Experimental studies are also conducted to show the correction by the magnetic compass sensor.
Recently, in the manufacturing process of flat panel displays, mass production methods of inline system has been emerged. In particular the next generation OLED display manufacturing process, horizontal inline evaporation process has been tried. It is important for the success of OLED inline evaporation process to develop a magnetic levitation transport system capable of transferring a carrier equipped with a mother glass with high accuracy without any physical contact along the rail under vacuum condition. In the case of existing wheel-based transfer system, it is not suitable for OLED evaporation process requiring high cleanliness. On the other hand, the magnetic levitation transport system has an advantage that it does not generate any dust and it is possible to achieve high-precision control because there are not non-linear factors such as friction force. In this paper, we introduce the high-precision magnetic levitation transport system, which is currently under development, for OLED evaporation process.
This study introduces a novel method for predicting the shape of soft catheter robots embedded with electromagnets. As an advancement in the realm of soft robotics, these catheter robots are crafted from flexible and pliable materials, ensuring enhanced safety and adaptability during interactions with human tissues. Given the pivotal role of catheters in minimally invasive surgeries (MIS), our design stands out by facilitating active control over the orientation and intensity of the inbuilt electromagnets. This ensures precise targeting and manipulation of the catheter segments. The research encompasses a comprehensive breakdown of the magnetic modeling, tracking algorithms, experimental layout, and analytical techniques. Both simulation and experimental results validate the efficacy of our method, underscoring its potential to augment accuracy in MIS and revolutionize healthcare-oriented soft robotics.
This paper proposes an equipment and an algorithm for modeling the magnetic force of electromagnets in magnetic levitation systems. We assume that the magnetic force model is represented in terms of a 2D lookup table. The 2D lookup table is constructed by applying noncausal filtering and interpolation to data measured by the proposed modeling equipment. The proposed modeling equipment is designed such that it can measure the magnetic force exerted on the levitation object while it changes the voltage applied to the electromagnet and position of the levitation object. The algorithm of making a 2D lookup table has two stages. The data measured by the proposed modeling equipment is smoothed by a noncausal filter and then the 2D lookup table is obtained by interpolating filtered data. The proposed modeling method has advantages of time-saving, model consistency, and chance of automation for mass production. We show the validity of proposed method through control experiments.
A spiral electrodynamic wheel is proposed as an actuator for the contactless conveyance of a conductive rod. When rotating the wheel around the rod, a radial force, a tangential force, and an axial force are generated on the rod and cause a screw motion of the rod. The rotation of the rod is the inevitable result due to traction torque of the wheel and the unintended motion to be excluded. However, the rotating speed of the rod should be measured without mechanical contact to be cancelled out through the controller, so the electrodynamic wheel is used as a sensor measuring the rotating speed of the rod indirectly as well as an actuator. In this paper, we model the magnetic forces by the proposed wheel theoretically and compare the derived model with simulation result by Maxwell, and analyze influences on the magnetic forces by key parameters constituting the wheel. The feasibility of the conveyance system is verified experimentally.
In this paper, the tracking control of an automatic pipe cutting robot, called APCROM, with a magnetic binder is studied. Using magnetic force APCROM, a wheeled robot, binds itself to the pipe and executes unmanned cutting process. The gravity effect on the movement of APCROM varies as it rotates around the pipe laid in the gravitational field. In addition to the varying gravity effect other types of nonlinear disturbances including backlash in the driving system and the slip between the wheels of APCROM and the pipe also cause degradation in the cutting process. To maintain a constant velocity and consistent cutting performance, the authors adopt a repetitive learning controller (MRLC), which learns the required effort to cancel the tracking errors. An angular-position estimation method based on the MEMS-type accelerometer is also used in conjunction with MRLC to compensate the tracking error caused by slip at the wheels. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
This paper shows an application of H$_{\infty}$ control design for a magnetic suspension system which has strongly nonlinearity and parameter perturbation. The control design is evaluated by numerical simulations and experiments.
Magnetic levitation systems using the attraction force of electromagnets have many constraints according to the variation of air gap and the nonlinearity of electromagnetic force and inductances. As a result of these constraints, the nonlinear control of a magnetic levitation system has been improved by the latest advanced processors and accurate measurement system which can overcome problems such as many constraints and nonlinearity. This paper concentrates on the modeling of a nonlinear magnetic levitation system and an application of an exponential reaching law based sliding mode controller using the exponential reaching law which is one of the most robust controllers against external unexpected disturbances or parameter fluctuations. Controllability of a magnetic levitation system using the sliding mode control algorithm and robustness against parameter fluctuations have been verified through the experimental results.
The considered satellite is supposed to operate in the earth-point mode and sun-point mode in accordance with the mission requirements. The magnetic field correction is based on the orbit geometry using a set of measured magnetic field data from the three-axis-magnetometer and its algorithm excludes the earth’s magnetic field model. Moreover, the usefulness of the proposed method is investigated throughout the simulation of KOMPSAT-1.
