This paper introduces an approach to enhance the performance of magnetic manipulation systems for microrobot actuation. A variety of eight-electromagnet configurations have been proposed to date. The previous study revealed that achieving 5 degrees of freedom (5-DOF) control necessitates at least eight electromagnets without encountering workspace singularities. But so far, the research considering the influence of iron cores embedded in electromagnets has not been conducted. This paper offers a novel approach to optimizing electromagnet configurations that effectively consider the influence of iron cores. The proposed methodology integrates probabilistic optimization with finite element methods (FEM), using Bayesian Optimization (BO). The Bayesian optimization aims to optimize the worst-case magnetic force generation for enhancing the performance of magnetic manipulation system. The proposed simulation-based model achieves approximately 20% improvement compared to previous systems in terms of actuation performance. This study has the potential for enhancing magnetic manipulation systems for microrobot control, particularly in medical and microscale technology applications.

A magnetic compass module must be calibrated accurately before use. Moreover, the calibration process must be performed taking into account any magnetic dip if the magnetic compass module has tilt angles. For this, a calibration method for a magnetic compass module is explained. Tilt error of the magnetic compass module is compensated using a biaxial accelerometer generally. The accelerometer error causes a tilt angle calculation error that gives rise to an azimuth calculation error. For error property analysis, error equations are derived and simulations are performed. In the simulation results, the accuracy of derived error equations is verified. If a biaxial magnetic compass module is used instead of a triaxial one, the magnetic dip and z-axis magnetic compass data must be estimated for tilt compensation. Lastly, estimation equations for the magnetic dip and z-axis magnetic compass data are derived, and the performance of the equations is verified based on a simulation.

Geomagnetic is refracted by building's wall and pillar. Therefore refracted geomagnetic is able to be used as feature point. In a specific space, a mobile device that is equipped with magnetic sensor array measures 3-axis magnetic field for each point. Magnetic field map is acquired by collecting the every sample point in the magnetic field. The measured magnetic field must be calibrated, because each magnetic sensor has a distortion. For this reason, sensor distortion model and sensor calibration method are proposed in this paper. Magnetic field that is measured by mobile device matches magnetic field map. Result of the matching is used for position estimation. This paper implements hardware system for position estimation method using magnetic field map.
This paper proposed a new magnetic field detection algorithm to detect metal pieces in food producing processes. This algorithm can detect mixed metal pieces by sensing magnetic field. Some metal pieces are passed through an over-current circuit to magnetize them. The magnetic field sensor can detect the change in the magnetic field on theconveyor belt caused by the flow of the metal pieces in the food product. However, such a method detects the output of signals that change their amplitude and phase according to the movement of the conveyor belt with the food product, in which the equilibrium of the positive signal that is created in the receiver coil loses its balance due to the magnetized material. This includes not only the signal elements resulting from the effect of the alternating magnetic fields of the mixed metals, but also the signal elements resulting from the effect of the alternating magnetic fields of the examined object itself.

The purpose of this research is to improve the reliability of automobile navigation system that utilizes the magnetic compass for localization. On account of its sensitiveness against the dynamic external interference of the magnetic field, the electronic compass itself is not accurate enough to be used for the localization compared to the gyro-compass. To overcome this shortcoming, in this research, a robust electronic compass is designed by using two magnetic compasses to cancel out the dynamic interences efficiently. That is, a dual compass predictive calibration algorithm against irregular external interference of magnetic field is newly proposed and implemented in this paper. When the dynamic interference can be eliminated from the electronic compass, it becomes much accurate than the gyro-based system that suffers from the accumulative drift error. The reliability and performance of the designed system have been verified through the real driving experiments.
Geomagnetic field signals have potential for use in underwater navigation and geophysical surveys. To map underwater geomagnetic fields, we propose a method that exploits an autonomous surface vehicle. In our system, a magnetometer is rigidly attached to the vehicle and not towed by a cable, minimizing the system's size and complexity but requiring a dedicated calibration procedure due to magnetic distortion caused by the vehicle. Conventional 2D methods can be employed for the calibration by assuming the horizontal movement of the magnetometer, whereas the proposed 3D approach can correct for horizontal misalignment of the sensor. Our method does not require a supporting crane system to rotate the vehicle, and calibrates and maps simultaneously by exploiting data obtained from field operation. The proposed method has been verified experimentally in inland waters, generating a magnetic field map of the test area that is of much higher resolution than the public magnetic field data.

A self-sensing magnetic suspension system utilizing a LC resonant circuit is proposed by using the characteristic that the inductance of the magnetic system is varied with respect to the air gap displacement. An external capacitor is added into the electric system to make the levitation system be statically stable system, which much relieves the control effort required to stabilize the magnetic suspension system of haying an intrinsic unstable nature. For the realization of the self- sensing magnetically levitated system, an amplitude modulation / demodulation method is used with a positive position feedback controller Experimental results are presented to validate the proposed method.

A spreader pose control system using dual-electric compasses has been implemented by measuring the skew angle of the spreader with dual-electric compasses. In the conventional spreader pose measurement, CCD cameras, laser sensors or tilt sensors are mostly used. However those sensors are not only sensitive to the weather and disturbances but also expensive to build the system. To overcome the shortcomings, an inexpensive and efficient system to control the spreader pose has been implemented using the dual-magnetic compasses. Since the spreader iron-structures are noise sources to the magnetic compass, it is not considered to use the magnetic compass to measure the orientation of the spreader. An algorithm to eliminate the interferences of metal structures to the dual compasses has been developed in this paper. The 10:1 reduction model of a spreader control system is implemented and the control performance is demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the dual-magnetic compasses proposed in this research.

Recently fishing industry is interested in efficiency and automation to acquire the international competitive power of national fishing industry. As an automation device of fishing boat, there are electric compasses using GPS and terrestrial magnetic sensor. Electric compass can be minimum size, high effectiveness with keeping the characteristic of a magnetic compass. This can be used a heading angle sensor to construct auto-navigation system in a small size ship. This paper develop electronic compass system that has serial output signal in NMEA 0183 and demonstrates the possibility of the electronics compass in navigation system for a small sized ship.
