This study was conducted to investigate the effect of onion cultivation under paddy and upland condition on the yield and storage of onion bulbs. In comparison of soil conditions, nitrogen, phosphate, potassium content and average temperature in upland condition were higher than those of paddy condition, but calcium, magnesium, sodium and water content in paddy condition were higher than those of upland condition. The growth of aerial part was better in upland cultivated condition. It showed that bulb formation in paddy cultivated condition was faster during in early growth stage, but was slower during in late growth stage. Average bulb size and weight were higher in upland cultivated condition, but dry weight per 100 g fresh weight and bulb hardness were higher in paddy cultivated condition. Sugar contents, inorganic compounds, nitrogen, phosphate and potassium content of onion were higher in upland cultivated condition, but calcium, magnesium and sodium content of onion were higher in paddy cultivated condition. In distribution of onion bulb size, most of large sized onions were produced in upland cultivated condition. Average bulb production for seed harvesting were $63{\sim}70%$ higher in paddy cultivated condition than that of upland cultivated condition. The rotted rate of onion was about $27.2{\sim}34.6%$ in paddy, $37.5{\sim}51.4%$ in upland cultivated condition respectively, showed favorable result as the difference of $8.7{\sim}24.2%$ in paddy cultivated condition.
This study was conducted to determine effects of composted livestock manure application on soil nutrient change. PVC pot $(30\times100cm)$ was filled with either volcanic ash soil (Gujwa series) or non-volcanic ash soil (Aewol series) and the 20 cm surface soils were applied with composted livestock manures of cattle pig and poultry at the rates of 0, 50, 100 and 150 ton/ha, respectively. After 210 days soils samples of phosphate, potassium, calcium, and magnesium affected by application of the compost. The applied composted were equivalent to the application of organic matter of $23\sim111$ ton/ha and nitrogen of $80\sim450$ ton/ha. Availability rate of phosphate after the application of composted livestock manures ranged from 1.6 to 91.7% according to the different composted. It was much higher in the non-volcanic ash soil than in the volcanic ash soil. Availability rate of potassium fractional recovery rate change ranged from 22 to 94% according to the different manures. It was larger in the composted Availability rate of calcium 38 to 93% and $9\sim90%$ in volcanic ash soil and non-volcanic ash soil, respectively, It was higher in the composted manures followed by cattle and composted pig manures. Availability rate magnesium ranged from 12 to 41% and $1\sim9%$ in volcanic ash soil and non-volcanic ash soil, respectively. The rate was higher in the composted poultry manure followed by pig and composted cattle manures.

This study was carried out to evaluate nitrogen availability of applied fertilizer and to investigate yield and growth of Korean kimchi cabbage as affected by amount of fertilizer and soil fertility in organic farming applied various fertilizers in rainshelter. The head weight of Korean kimchi cabbage cultured in infertile soil (sand loam) with no amendments was very low. and that in fertile soil (clay loam) was higher than in infertile soil (sand loam). The head weight of Korean kimchi cabbage as affected by amount of fertilizer was more variable in infertile soil (sand loam) than in fertile soil (clay loam). Nitrogen availability of applied fertilizer by Korean kimchi cabbage was lower in fertile soil (clay loam) than in infertile soil (sand loam) and the lower that was, the more fertilizer applied. By application of poultry manure compost 20Mg ha-1 and natural mineral materials such as guano, phosphate rock, and potassium magnesium rock equal to amount of fertilizer recommended in conventional farming, the yield of Korean kimchi cabbage in infertile soil (sand loam) with 1% organic matter came up to 90% of the yield in fertile soil (clay loam) with 6% organic matter. Therefore natural mineral materials such as guano for N source, phosphate rock for P source, and potassium magnesium rock for K source may be able to use as environmental-friendly fertilizers in organic Korean kimchi cabbage production in highland.
The river-bed sediments from the major river basins were analysed for the chemical and physical properties to evaluate environmental safety for the agricultural uses. The samples were taken from 16 sites of Han river, 36 of Geumgang river, 27 of Yeongsan river, and 140 of Nakdong river. The total of 219 samples from the 28 counties were taken from the surface of the sediments at the depth of 50 cm. The particle density of the sediments was greater than $2.63Mg\;m^{-3}$ and the whole range of the density was $2.60{\sim}2.69Mg\;m^{-3}$, the average particle size was 0.7 mm whereas the size range was 0.075~0.85 mm. The analyses of the particle sizes by basins showed that Han and Geumgang river had particle sizes of 0.075~0.85 mm, while Geumgang and Yeongsan river had particle sizes of 0.25~0.85 mm. Geumgang and Yeongsan river tended to have greater particle sizes. The average values of the chemical properties were 6.3 for pH, $0.16dS\;m^{-1}$ for EC, $8g\;kg^{-1}$ for organic matter, $101mg\;kg^{-1}$ for available phosphate, 0.39, 3.47, and $0.93cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$ for exchangeable potassium, calcium, and magnesium respectively. The greatest property at each basin was pH for Han river, Ec, available phosphate and exchangeable sodium for Geumgang river, organic matter, exchangeable calcium and magnesium for Yeongsan river, and exchangeable potassium for Nakdong river.
The optimal synthetic medium, temperature and pH range for the mycelial growth of Cordyceps scarabaeicola were PDA, $25^{\circ}C$, and pH $8.0{\sim}8.5$, respectively. The effects of carbon sources, nitrogen sources and mineral salts on mycelial growth were superior to lactose, ammonium phosphate and $CaCl_2$, respectively. Liquid spawn culture was selected out BM(brown sugar 3%, soybean flour 0.3%, potassium phosphate 0.05%, magnesium sulfate 0.05%) medium.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of slurry composting and biofiltration (SCB) liquid manure application on shoot growth, fruit qualities and soil chemical properties in peach orchard. SCB liquid manure was fertigated ten times from April to October in SCB plot, whereas chemical fertilizer was treated two times as basal and additional fertilizers in control plot. The shoot growth, leaf nitrogen and potassium content, soil exchangeable K, fruit weight and yield were higher in SCB plot than in control. Soluble solid content and acidity, soil organic matter, soil available phosphate and soil exchangeable Mg showed no significant difference between treatments, and the leaf calcium and magnesium content were lower in SCB plot than in control. In conclusion, fertigating SCB liquid manure in peach orchard has positive effects on fruit weight and yield, and it is suggested that periodical soil testing is needed because of the possibility of K accumulation in SCB liquid manure treated soil when the orchard is fertigated based on the soil nitrogen content.
This study was carried out to investigate the vegetation and habitat environment of Sageretia thea which is distributed in Jeju island, Korea. Sageretia thea were mainly distributed to the west area in Jeju island. Soil pH and EC of Sageretia thea habitat were 5.8 and $0.34dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The contents of organic matter, available phosphate, exchangeable potassium, exchangeable sodium, exchangeable magnesium and exchangeable calcium were 15.27%, $13.6mgkg^{-1}$, $0.27cmol_+kg^{-1}$, $1.3cmol_+kg^{-1}$, $1.7cmol_+kg^{-1}$, $4.9cmol_+kg^{-1}$, respectively. Thirty one taxa including 25 families, 31 genus, 27 species and 4 varieties were identified surrounding Sageretia thea habitat. Specific plant species were 1 taxon in III grade, 1 taxon in I grade and 3 taxa in I grade.
This work was conducted to investigate dietary supplementation of oyster mushroom fruiting bodies on biochemical and histological changes in hyper and normocholesterolemic rats. Six-week old female Sprague-Dawley albino rats were divided into three groups of 10 rats each. Feeding a diet containing a 5% powder of Pleurotus ostreatus fruiting bodies to hypercholesterolemic rats reduced plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total lipid, phospholipids, and LDL/high-density lipoprotein ratio by 30.18, 52.75, 59.62, 34.15, 23.89, and 50%, respectively. Feeding oyster mushrooms also significantly reduced body weight in hypercholesterolemic rats. However, it had no adverse effects on plasma albumin, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, creatinin, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, glucose, total protein, calcium, sodium, potassium, chloride, inorganic phosphate, magnesium, or enzyme profiles. Feeding mushroom increased total lipid and cholesterol excretion in feces. The plasma lipoprotein fraction, separated by agarose gel electrophoresis, indicated that P. ostreatus significantly reduced plasma ${\beta}$ and pre-${\beta}$-lipoprotein but increased ${\alpha}$-lipoprotein. A histological study of hepatic cells by conventional hematoxylin-eosin and oil red O staining revealed normal findings for mushroom-fed hypercholesterolemic rats. These results suggest that a 5% P. ostreatus diet supplement provided health benefits by acting on the atherogenic lipid profile in hypercholesterolemic rats.
Background : This text was conducted to evaluate the distribution, shape characteristics and habitat condition of Crypsinus hastatus in Buyeo Korea. Methods and Results : In Buyeo, Crypsinus hastatus was distributed at an altitude of 31.2 m, a slope of 82.5% and a distance from river water of 27.2 m. The leaf blade was oblong, 2.7 cm long, 1.2 cm wide with a petiole length of 2.3 cm. The total population comprised 2,100 individuals, with the highest proportion being individuals with a leaf blade of length 0.5 - 1 cm. The temperature and light intensity of the growth point were lower, but the humidity higher, than that of growth around. The chemical properties of the soil were as follows: pH 4.42, organic matter 77.99 g/kg, electrical conductivity 0.50 dS/m, nitrate nitrogen 20.50 mg/kg and available phosphate 165.7 mg/kg. Exchangeable cation content of potassium, magnesium, sodium and calcium was 0.35, 0.70, 0.09 and $2.04cmol^+/kg$, respectively. Conclusions : In Buyeo, Crypsinus hastatus was distributed in $5.3m^2$ area of Nakhwaam, Naeseongri and Jeongamri. However, the population of the medicinal resources seemed to decrease owing to the poor environmental conditions of the habitat.
In previous paper, it was reported that antibiotic substance such as tetracycline and streptomycin were produced by S'. albus subsp. and S'. globosus. And increase of mycelial growth of two strains, antibiotic production, and changes of pH range are extended to approximately 110-130 hrs in fermenting medium, there-after they decreased with culture period exception of pH range. Two Streptomyces spp. required commonly 4-5% starch as carbon sources and 1.5-2.0% soybean meal as nitrogen sources. However, 0.005-0.01M potassium phosphate dibasic, calcium carbonate (6mg/ml in S.albus subsp. and 2mg/ml in S. globosus), 0.01-0.03M, magnesium sulgate and 0.01M ferric chloride showed as optimal concentration for the growth of 2 strains. Mineral compoments such as zinc, manganese, cobalt, sodium and copper at the level of 10/sup -4/ -10/sup -6/M were observed. Especially, zinc ion showed toxicity to the growth of 2 strains at 0.005M. In relation with pH, there is a little difference in mycelial growth with cultural initial pH.
