The objective of this research is to use an analytical and experimental approach to develop optimal tool geometry for high speed machining. The tool geometry parameters and cutting process have complex relationships. Until now, numerous cutting tests were needed to acquire optimal design of endmill for the purpose of high speed machining, dut to the insufficient knowledge about process in high speed machining. In order to improve the cutting ability of endmill, a model for optimal cutter shape was developed to minimize resultant cutting force by combing cutting force and wear test and surface roughness test from optimized and conventional cutter with the same cutting condition. Using various tools with different geometry, relationships between the tool geometry parameter, rake angle, clearance angle, lengh of cutter have been stuied.

This study for the roundness and perpendicularity of machining center is classified into two ways. One is the way that progresses the roundness amending the parameter of machining center based on the measured value after the measurement of the roundness of machaning center by means of a existing measuring device, another is the way that measures the roundness by remodeling the existing measuring device. the former is studied by pack hei jae team in Seoul university, the later is studied by TSUTSUMI. Especially TSUTSUMI measures the roundness according to circular compensation after the insertion of developed measuring device using a rotary encoder to the spindle of machining tool. we study how regulation velocity occuring with circular motion of machining center table influences the roundness after measuring the roundness using Circular Test method by a 2 dimention probe and a standard discus in this experiment.

In this paper, we present the fabrication of copper electrode array and test of electrochemical discharge machining(ECDM) for glass machining. An array of 72 Cu electrodes is used to machine Borofloat33 glass. The height and diameter of a Cu electrode are 400 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ respectively. It is fabricated by ICP-RIE, Au-Au thermo-compression bonding, and copper electroplating. Borofloat33 glass is machined by the fabricated copper electrode array in 60 seconds at 55 V. The surface roughness of the machined glass is measured and the machined glass is anodically bonded with silicon.

In the part industry, pipe has required high accuracy in surface roughness and size. Especially, when producing the high frequency welding pipe, cutting process is very important as the finishing process that remove the hot welding bead. The objective of this paper is to investigate the hot machining high frequency welded pipe by simulation and experimental tests. To test the cutting process as hot machining, all cutting environment is reproduced in turning with heating system, and the test is accomplished by comparing with room temperature machining and hot machining in consideration of cutting force, tool wear and cutting temperature.

The purpose of this study is to describe the strategy of machining process suitable for developing adaptive control with constraint of NC-machine tool. The algorithm that controls machining process parameters of every sampling time is established for the constraint of torque in machinig center. To prove this AC algorithm, manual AC-unit control test is used for simulating the on-line AC strategy control. Also machining tests are carried out on a CNC-machining center fitted with the ACC system and compared with the simulated results. The practical effectiveness of the ACC systems so discussed and the reduction of machining time are demonstrated with reference to typical models of cutting workpieces. As a typical model, taper and step geometry model are selected. The computer simulation results have a good agreement with the experimental observation and make it possible to develope a NC-machine tool with an on-line ACC system.
Rotational-free-surface (RFS) is a special type of free surface whose two boundaries coincide. For NC machining of PFS, a rotational axis as well as three Cartesian axes are required. In this paper, we develop a four-axis CAM module consisting of: a) Geometric modeling of RFS, b) CL-data generation, and c) Graphic simulation of machining operation. To test the validity and effectiveness of the developed module, several test cuts are made with Bridgeport CNC milling machine and compared with the graphic simulation.

Cutter deflections in the ball-end milling process is one of the main causes of the machining errors on a free-form surface. In order to avoid machining errors in this process, a methodology avoiding these machining errors on the free-form surfaces has been developed. In this method, feedrates in the finish cuts are adjusted for the prevention of machining errors. A model for the prediction of machining errors on the free-form surface is analytically derived as a function of feed and normal vector at the surface of contact point by the cutter. This model is applied to the dertermination of the adjusted feedrates which satisfy the machining tolerance of the surface. In the finish cuts of a simple curved surface, the suggested model is examined by the measurements of the generated machining error on this surface. And also, this surface is machined with the adjusted feedrates for the given machining tolerance. The measured machining errors on this surface are compared with the given tolerance. In this comparisons, it is shown that the predicted errors are fairly good agreement with the test results.

It is very important to test motion accuracy and performance of NC machine tools as they affect that of all other machines machined by them in industry. In this paper, in has become possible to detect errors of linear displacement of radial direction for circular motion test using newly assembled magnetic type of linear scales so called Magnescale ball bar system, and to calculate time interval getting error motion data and revolution angle of circular motion in machining center using tick pulses come out from computer. And a set of error data gotten from test is expressed to a plot by computer treatment and to numerics of error motion by statistical treatment and results of test are compared with those of Renishaw ball bar system.

KS and ISO have proposed several evaluation methods of conventional machine tools. Even though the accuracy of the tools can be evaluated with these methods, there are still no proper evaluation methods of high speed machining. Because it is hard to evaluate characteristics of high speed machining such as decrease of cutting temperature, cutting force, and reduced machining time. Therefore, new evaluation method for high speed machine should be developed. In this paper, several shapes of model have been proposed to evaluate cutting accuracy of high speed machine.

The recent development of core techniques in the IT industry can be summarized as a technical advancement for safety and convenience, and mechanical technology for being "eco-friendly" and lightweight. Under these circumstances, research of lightweight material has become attractive. In this study, CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) laminate specimens are subjected to a tensile test using the UTM(Universal Testing Machine, AG-IS 100 kN) to estimate their mechanical properties in terms of the Hole machining impact evaluation. The FEM (Finite Elements Method) analysis method is applied and the material properties obtained from basic experiments such as the Tensile test, the compressive test, and the shear test. CFRP materials properties from a previous study, as well as a finite element analysis program for Hole machining CFRP was compared with the experiments.
