  • In multi-stage cold forging process, to enhance the productivity and product quality, in-site process monitoring technique by implanting sensors such as piezo-sensor and acoustic emission sensor has been continuously studied. For accurate analysis of the process, the selection of appropriate sensors and implantation positions are very important. Until now, in a multi-state forging machine, wedge parts located at the end of punch-set are used but it is difficult to analyze minute changes in die block-set. In this study, we also implanted sensors to the die part (die spacer) and compared signals from both sensors and found that sensing signals from die part showed enhanced process monitoring results.

위치 제어가 가능한 서보프레스의 정적 구조해석 (Static Structural Analysis of Variable Position Control Servo Press)

  • Servo presses are used in variety of ways in industry throughout the production and assembly lines of machine parts. The bottom of the servo press is fixed to a bed or a tabletop, and the press cylinder continuously operates under vertical upward loads. In this research, a static structural analysis was performed by simplifying 3D model of the servo press, and the maximum deformation was applied to the clamp and bolt. The maximum value of Von Mises stress was reported in this paper. The result was used to calculate the safety factor, and it was confirmed that the design was conservative.

  • Radial, tilting-pad proceeding bearings are applied in high speed rotating machines operating at stable small and mean loads and the peripheral speeds of proceeding reaching 150 m/s. The operation of bearing can be determined by static characteristics including the oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions, minimum oil film thickness, load capacity, power loss, oil flow. The operation of 5-lobe tilted-pad proceeding bearing has been introduced at the assumption of adiabatic oil film. The oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions habe received by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The resulting oil film force, minimum oil film thickness, power loss. oil flow, maximum oil film pressure, maximum temperature were computed for different sets of bearing geometric parameters as: bearing length to diameter ratio, pad angular length and width as well as pad relative clearance.

  • Radial, tilting 12-pad proceeding bearings are applied as the radial bearings of vertical rotors of water turbines. The mean loads are stable at the peripheral speeds of proceeding reaching 50 m/s. The operation of tilting 12-pads proceeding bearing has been introduced at the assumption of adiabatic oil film. The oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions have been obtained by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The resulting oil film force, minimum oil film thickness, power loss, oil flow, maximum oil film pressure, maximum temperature have been computed for different load angle of bearing.

구치용 도재소부금관과 전부도재관에 파절을 일으키는 한국음식에 관한 연구 (A comparative study on the correlation between Korean foods and the fractures of PFG and all ceramic crowns for posterior applications)

  • 연구목적: 4종 구치용도재관(Full-porcelain-occlusal-surfaced PFG, Half-porcelain-occlusal-surfaced PFG, Empress 2, Ice Zirkon)과 선별된 한국음식의 fracture load와 dynamic cyclic load를 측정하여 구치용 도재관에 파절을 일으킬 가능성이 있는 한국음식을 선별하는데 있다. 연구재료 및 방법: 4종의 각 porcelain 보철물 system 당 15개의 축대칭을 이루는 crown을 제작했다. 이때 occlusal reduction은 1.5-2.0 mm로 했다(중심부 1.5 mm, 교두부 2.0 mm). 각 15개의 시편의 교합면 중앙부에 직경 5 mm의 stainless steel ball을 위치시킨 후 Instron 4465 universal testing machine(Instron, Norwood, MA USA)을 이용하여 5 mm/min의 crosshead speed로 수직 부하를 주어 파절을 일으키는 최대 부하(N)를 기록했다. 이후, 한국음식 중 삶은 게, 닭(뼈포함), 소갈비(뼈포함), 마른 오징어, 건멸치, 사탕, 호두껍질을 표본으로 설정하고 이들을 파절시키는 최대 부하(N)를 universal testing machine(Instron 4465) 에서 측정하여 기록했다. 각 항목당 15번을 측정했다. 음식물을 파절시킬 때 필요한 최대부하와 각 보철물의 파절저항을 비교하여 한국의 식습관과 도재를 이용한 보철물 파절의 상관관계를 조사하였다. fracture loads는 analysis of variance 와 Post Hoc tests를 이용해서 분석하였다($\alpha$=0.05). 차후에 위에서 얻은 결과를 바탕으로 Hydraulic Dynamic Fatigue Testing Machine(858 Bionix II, MTS systems, Eden Prairie, MN USA)를 이용하여 4종의 각 porcelain 보철물 system당 5개의 crown에 14Hz Cyclic Load를 가하여 crown에 파절을 일으키는 masticatory cycle수를 알아 보았다. Load 수치는 41.0 N(건멸치 파절강도), 169.0 N(마른오징어 파절강도), 382.9 N(닭뼈 파절강도), 2224.8 N(사탕 파절강도)로 설정하였다. 결과: 95% confidence intervals for mean fracture load는 2599.3-2809.1 N(완전도재교합면 PFG), 3689.4-3819.9 N(반도재교합면 PFG), 1501.2-1867.9 N(Ice Zirkon), 803.2-1188.5 N(Empress 2)로 나왔고 95% confidence intervals for dynamic cyclic load on fracture는 instron 상에서 도재보철물에 파절을 일으키지 않은 load인 2224.8 N(사탕 파절강도)와 382.9 N(닭뼈 파절강도)로 실험했을 때, 2224.8 N에서 4796.8-9321.2 cycles(완전도재교합면 PFG), 2224.8 N에서 881705.1-1143565.7 cycles(반도재교합면 PFG), 382.9 N에서 979993.0-1145773.4 cycles(Ice Zirkon), 382.9 N에서 564.1-954.7 cycles(Empress 2)로 나왔다. 결론: 통계학적으로 유의할 만한 차이가 그룹들 간 fracture load에서 나타났다. 한국음식물 중 소갈비(뼈포함)와 사탕(자두맛캔디)은 구치용 도재보철물을 파절시킬 가능성이 있는 음식물로 밝혀졌다. 단일수직부하에서는 파절이 생기지 않는 경우라 할지라도 dynamic cyclic load를 줄 경우 일정 주기 후에 파절이 생기는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

전자기 제어 밸브를 위한 벨로우즈의 기계적 거동에 관한 연구 (Analysis of the Mechanical Behavior of Bellows for Electromagnetic Control Valve)

  • 본 연구는 금속 주름관, 내부 스프링, 금속마개 등으로 구성된 소형 벨로우즈 세트의 거동에 대하여 연구하였다. 벨로우즈는 자동차용 에어컨의 제어를 위한 전자기제어밸브의 핵심 부품으로써 기계적 하중과 외부 압력에 대하여 민감하고 정확하게 작동하여야 한다. 벨로우즈 설계 인자 도출을 위하여, 소형 인장시험기를 이용하여 벨로우즈 내부 스프링의 스프링 상수를 측정하고, 벨로우즈 세트의 하중-변위 선도를 측정하였다. 내부 스프링의 하중-변위 관계는 선형관계를 나타내었다. 벨로우즈 세트의 하중-변위 관계는 변위가 작을 때는 낮은 기울기를 가지고 하중이 증가하다가 이후 선형으로 증가하는 특성을 나타내었다. 실측 결과를 바탕으로 유한요소해석을 수행하여 외부 주름관의 유효 물성을 도출하고 유한요소 모델링을 확보하였다. 원통형의 형상을 고려하여 축대칭 모델을 적용하였으며, 주름관은 쉘 요소를 적용하였다. 확보한 모델을 활용하여 냉매 압력에 따른 벨로우즈의 거동에 대한 연구를 수행하였다.

Effect of ferrule on the fracture resistance of mandibular premolars with prefabricated posts and cores

  • PURPOSE. This study evaluated fracture resistance with regard to ferrule lengths and post reinforcement on endodontically treated mandibular premolars incorporating a prefabricated post and resin core. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred extracted mandibular premolars were randomly divided into 5 groups (n=20): intact teeth (NR); endodontically treated teeth (ETT) without post (NP); ETT restored with a prefabricated post with ferrule lengths of either 0 mm (F0), 1 mm (F1), or 2 mm (F2). Prepared teeth were restored with metal crowns. A thermal cycling test was performed for 1,000 cycles. Loading was applied at an angle of 135 degrees to the axis of the tooth using a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 2.54 mm/min. Fracture loads were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD test using a statistical program (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. There were statistical differences in fracture loads among groups (P<.001). The fracture load of F2 ($237.7{\pm}83.4$) was significantly higher than those of NP ($155.6{\pm}74.3N$), F0 ($98.8{\pm}43.3N$), and F1 ($152.8{\pm}78.5N$) (P=.011, P<.001, and P=.008, respectively). CONCLUSION. Fracture resistance of ETT depends on the length of the ferrule, as shown by the significantly increased fracture resistance in the 2 mm ferrule group (F2) compared to the groups with shorter ferrule lengths (F0, F1) and without post (NP).

Investigation on the monotonic behavior of the steel rack upright-beam column connection

  • The cold-formed steel storage racks are extensively employed in various industries applications such as storing products in reliable places and storehouses before distribution to the market. Racking systems lose their stability under lateral loads, such as seismic actions due to the slenderness of elements and low ductility. This justifies a need for more investigation on methods to improve their behavior and increase their capacity to survive medium to severe loads. A standardized connection could be obtained through investigation on the moment resistance, value of original rotational stiffness, ductility, and failure mode of the connection. A total of six monotonic tests were carried out to determine the behavior of the connection of straight 2.0 mm, and 2.6 mm thickness connects to 5 lug end connectors. Then, the obtained results are benched mark as the original data. Furthermore, an extreme learning machine (ELM) technique has been employed to verify and predict both moment and rotation results. Out of 4 connections, increase the ultimate moment resistance of connection by 13% and 18% for 2.0 mm and 2.6 mm upright connection, respectively.

In vitro evaluation of the fracture resistance and microleakage of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to teeth with composite fillings after cyclic loading

  • PURPOSE. There is insufficient data regarding the durability of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to existing composite fillings. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the fracture resistance and microleakage of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to teeth with existing composite fillings. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty maxillary central incisors were divided into three groups (for each group, n=10): intact teeth (NP), teeth with class III composite fillings (C3) and teeth with class IV cavities (C4). Porcelain laminate veneers were made using IPS-Empress ceramic and bonded with Panavia F2 resin cement. The microleakage of all of the specimens was tested before and after cyclic loading ($1{\times}10^6$ cycles, 1.2 Hz). The fracture resistance values (N) were measured using a universal testing machine, and the mode of failure was also examined. The statistical analyses were performed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. There was a significant difference in the mean microleakage of group C4 compared with group NT (P=.013). There was no significant difference in the fracture loads among the groups. CONCLUSION. The microleakage and failure loads of porcelain laminate veneers bonded to intact teeth and teeth with standard class III composite fillings were not significantly different.

비틀림 하중을 받는 고주파열처리 드라이브 차축의 피로수명 평가 (Fatigue Life Estimation of Induction-Hardened Drive Shaft Under Twisting Loads)

  • 자동차 부품 중 드라이브 샤프트는 엔진에서 발생하는 토크를 바퀴에 전달하는 동력 전달장치의 핵심 부품이다. 엔진에서 입력되는 비틀림 하중과 주행 중 발생하는 실동하중에 의한 부품의 파손을 방지하기 위해, 고주파 열처리로 강도 및 피로수명이 개선되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고주파 열처리에 따른 드라이브 샤프트의 피로수명을 정량적으로 평가할 수 있는 피로수명 평가기법을 구축하였다. 드라이브 샤프트의 소재인 SAE10B38M2 강재로 모재 및 경화깊이가 서로 다른 고주파 열처리 시편 두 종을 제작하여 비틀림 하중 하에서의 전단 변형률 제어 피로시험을 진행하였고, 변형률-수명 피로수명 평가에 필요한 피로 물성값을 구하였다. 얻어진 피로 물성값을 이용하여 드라이브 샤프트의 변형률 기반 피로해석을 진행하였으며, 얻어진 피로수명 결과를 시제품 피로시험 결과와 비교하여 해석기법의 타당성을 검증하였다.
