In this paper, we proposed an efficient TDMA scheduling algorithm for a clustered Wireless Sensor Network. Since some previous algorithms used unnecessary idle period and schedule period in each frame. It became an overhead that might consume unexpected energy and delay data transmission. To solve this problem, a dynamic scheduling algorithm according to the number of member nodes and node traffic load within a cluster was suggested. Our proposed DS-MAC(Dynamic Scheduling MAC) could save energy and reduce transmission delay Then DS-MAC was analyzed mathematically to compare with the previous algorithms.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) often employ asynchronous MAC scheduling, which allows each sensor node to wake up independently without synchronizing with its neighbor nodes. However, this asynchronous scheduling may not deal with collisions due to hidden terminals effectively. Although most of the existing asynchronous protocols exploit a random back-off technique to resolve collisions, the random back-off cannot secure a receiver from potentially repetitive collisions and may lead to a substantial increase in the packet latency. In this paper, we propose a new collision resolution algorithm called Transient Coordinator (TC) for asynchronous WSN MAC protocols. TC resolves a collision on demand by ordering senders' transmissions when a receiver detects a collision. To coordinate the transmission sequence both the receiver and the collided senders perform handshaking to collect the information and to derive a collision-free transmission sequence, which enables each sender to exclusively access the channel. According to the simulation results, our scheme can improve the average per-node throughput by up to 19.4% while it also reduces unnecessary energy consumption due to repetitive collisions by as much as 91.1% compared to the conventional asynchronous MAC protocols. This demonstrates that TC is more efficient in terms of performance, resource utilization, and energy compared to the random back-off scheme in dealing with collisions for asynchronous WSN MAC scheduling.

In this paper, we present a QoS-aware MAC protocol (QA-MAC) for cluster based wireless sensor networks (WSNs). QA-MAC is a TDMA-based scheduling protocol that minimizes the energy consumption in multi-hop WSNs and provides Quality of Service (QoS). A dynamic scheduling algorithm according to the number of member nodes, node traffics, and traffic priorities is suggested. The selected cluster head allocates time slots for all member nodes in the first TDMA schedule period of each round. During the second schedule period in each round, the cluster head makes a schedule for all data transmission. The proposed QA-MAC (QoS-Aware MAC) could save energy, reduce transmission delay, and support QoS.

In this paper, we propose an efficient MAC scheduling algorithm for supporting Bluetooth scatternet operations. Our proposed algorithm improves overall performances of scatter mode[2, 3] and considers QoS requirements of each link of the bridge node of a scatternet. Scatter mode is based on time division scheduling and provides every links of a scatternet with fair service opportunities. However, since each Bluetooth devices has various traffic characteristics. fair allocation of service opportunities is not efficient and may cause extravagance of wireless resources. Therefore, we propose a new efficient inter-piconet scheduling algorithm compliant with the current Bluetooth specification[1], and demonstrate its improved performances via computer simulations.

The wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes are required to operate for several months with the limited system resource such as memory and power. The hardware platform of WSN has 128Kbyte program memory and 8Kbytes data memory. Also, WSN node is required to operate for several months with the two AA size batteries. The MAC, Network protocol, and small application must be operated in this WSN platform. We look around the problem of memory and power for WSN requirements. Then, we propose a new computing model of system software for WSN node. It is the Atomic Object Model (AOM) with Dual Priority Scheduling. For the verification of model, we design and implement IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocol with the proposed model.

Due to the development of information and communication, there is a rising interest on WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) that maintain and check the human being health. According to the application of different quality of service and a special mechanism for transferring medical data are required in WBAN environment. In this paper, we proposed the new formed superframe that has CSMA/CA based TDMA scheduling and CSMA/CA used IEEE 802.15.4 in order to process emergency data and on-demand data in WBAN environment. We estimated performance of the proposed MAC protocol by compared performance of other MAC protocols that are IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocl and Z-MAC protocol has contention access period based TDMA scheduling.

This paper proposes an efficient and differentiated MAC scheduling algorithm for Bluetooth systems. The proposed algorithm guarantees QoS (Quality of Service) requirement of each master-slave pair or application. Conventional MAC scheduling algorithms for Bluetooth take priority of each pair into consideration and demonstrate relatively reasonable performance. However, their performances may depend on traffic characteristic, or they are limited by overheads for signaling. In this paper, we propose a new MAC scheduling algorithm superior to the conventional algorithms from the viewpoints of throughput, delay, and supporting QoS. Our proposed algorithm is evaluated via computer simulations under various environments and compared with the conventional scheduling algorithms. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm shows better performance than the existing algorithms, and can support the QoS demand of each pair.

A Wi-Fi mesh network providing multi-hop wireless connections based on IEEE 802.11 PHY/MAC technology has recently received a significant attention as a network infrastructure that interconnects RFID systems and wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, the current IEEE 802.11 contention-based MAC protocol cannot fully utilize the network capacity due to eithor frame collisions or unused network resources. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-channel scheduling MAC (MCS-MAC) protocol for Wi-Fi mesh networks. Under the secondary interference model of Wi-Fi mesh networks, the MCS-MAC protocol can maximize the network throughput via activation of collision-free links that has a maximal link weight. Through the simulations, we show that the throughput of the MCS-MAC protocol is at least three times higher than that of existing MAC protocols in Wi-Fi mesh networks.
High-rate wireless personal area network (HR-WPAN) has been standardized by the IEEE 802.15.3 task group (TG). To support multimedia services, the IEEE 802.15.3 TG adopts a time-slotted medium access control (MAC) protocol controlled by a central device. In the time division multiple access (TDMA)-based wireless packet networks, the packet scheduling algorithm plays a key role in quality of service (QoS) provisioning for multimedia services. In this paper, we propose an adaptive cross-layer packet scheduling method for the TDMA-based HR-WPAN. Physical channel conditions, MAC protocol, link layer status, random traffic arrival, and QoS requirement are taken into consideration by the proposed packet scheduling method. Performance evaluations are carried out through extensive simulations and significant performance enhancements are observed. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed scheme remains stable regardless of the variable system parameters such as the number of devices (DEVs) and delay bound.

The quest for reliability in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressively urgent, especially in the field of next generation wireless networks. Future Beyond 5G (B5G)/6G networks will connect a huge number of devices and will offer innovative services invested with AI and Machine Learning tools. Wireless communications, in general, and medium access control (MAC) techniques were among the fields that were heavily affected by this improvement. This study presents the applications and services of future communication networks. This study details the Medium Access Control (MAC) scheduler of Beyond-5G/6G from 3rd Generation Partnership (3GPP) and highlights the current open research issues which are yet to be optimized. This study provides an overview of how AI plays an important role in improving next generation communication by solving MAC-layer issues such as resource scheduling and queueing. We will select C-V2X as our use case to implement our proposed MAC scheduling model.
