  • This study was carried out to investigate the simple and rapid detection of Salmonella species in different kinds of food using PCR method. The specific primer sets (SIN1 and SIN2) was designed and utilized to amplify a 617 bp DNA fragment from salmonella species. The sensitivity of PCR was 1 pg of purified template DNA or $10^2$ cells from pure culture. The detection limit of Salmonella typhimurium on agarose gel electrophoresis was $10^3{\sim}10^4$ cells/g in the artificially contaminated food samples. These results suggested that this simple method could be applied to industrial fields for detection of Salmonella species in food.

  • D-chiro-inositol (DCI) is a secondary messenger in insulin signal transduction. It is produced in vivo from myo-inositol via action of epimerase. In this study, we evaluated antitumor activity of DCI against human breast cancer both in vitro and in vivo. In order to determine the inhibitory effects of DCI on growth of human breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231), two different assessment methods were implemented: MTT assay and mouse xenograft assay. MTT assay demonstrated downturn in cell proliferation by DCI treatment (1, 5, 10, 20 and 40 mM) groups by 18.3% (p < 0.05), 17.2% (p < 0.05), 17.5% (p < 0.05), 18.4% (p < 0.05), and 24.9% (p < 0.01), respectively. Also, inhibition of tumor growth was investigated in mouse xenograft model. DCI was administered orally at the dose of 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg body weight to treat nude mouse for 45 consecutive days. On the 45th day, tumor growth of DCI (500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg) groups was suppressed by 22.1% and 67.6% as mean tumor volumes were $9313.8{\pm}474.1mm^3$ and $3879.1{\pm}1044.1mm^3$, respectively. Furthermore, breast cancer stem cell (CSC) phenotype ($CD44^+/C24^-$) was measured using flow cytometry. On the 46th day, CSC ratios of DCI (500 mg/kg) and co-treatment with doxorubicin (4 mg/kg) and DCI (500 mg/kg) group decreased by 24.7% and 53.9% (p < 0.01), respectively. Finally, from tumor recurrence assay, delay of 5 days in the co-treatment group compared to doxorubicin (4 mg/kg) alone group was observed. Based on these findings, we propose that DCI holds potential as an anti-cancer drug for treatment of breast cancer.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate range of motion (ROM) and muscle activities according to the skills of Surya Namaskara in Vinyasa Yoga. Six females (skilled 2, unskilled 4) of university students participated in this experiment. The research factors were ROM and muscle activities for static poses on Surya Namaskara in Vinyasa Yoga. The six infrared cameras (Oqus 300, Qualisys Inc, Sweden) and Zero Wire EMG (Aurion, Italy) were used to acquire raw data, and the Qualisys Track Manager and Noraxon (MyoResearch XP Master Edition, USA) were used to process data. The %MVIC and ROM were analyzed with Visual 3D (C-Motion Inc, USA) and Noraxon. In conclusion, ROM and %MVIC between two groups were remarkable different according to the static poses of Yoga, therefore instructors have to provide step-by-step information that was suitable to themselves (ROM and EMG of poses).

  • This study has been conducted to find out the location and amount of the subterrain water body developed in the alluvial stratum in Paho-Dong, Sungsee-Myo-n, Dalsung-Kun are. An earlier test drilling was done in this area by R.O.K. Agricultural Promotion Corporation. The area consists of a small river basin and surrounding low hills developed around the junction of the Nakdong and Kumho Rivers. The strata of this area are made of Paldal gravel, Bokhyundong and Banyawol layers which were formed in the cretaceous period of the Meso-saicera or acid dikes and covered with-irregular alluvial layers. The alluvial layer in this area is composed of rather minute particles and proportional electric resistance tests on this layer show $10^2\;-\;10^3\;\Omega/cm$. The drillings up to 12meters deep showed only the sand layer (Form 3 to 26meters in thickness) contains water. The sand layers can not be considered a good water trapping one. Applying the data from the drillings to A.Hazen's equation, $K\;=\;{cd_e}^2\;(0.7\;+0.03t)$ to get the theoretical value of the water infilterated, I calculated it as K=13.92m/day. And again the value was set to Dupuit equation, (equation omitted) to acquire the pumping water amount the result was $Q_1\;=\;77.20\;\textrm{m}^3/day$. When the data-applied to the equation for pumping water amount, (equation omitted), the results were $Q_2\;=\;122.39\;\textrm{m}^3/day$ and K = 38m/day $Q_1\;and;Q_2$ (tow types of pumping water amount) represent proper value decrease and maximum value decrease respectively. Therefore, $Q_2$ is the least amount of water we can pump. The area covers about $1,555,000\;\textrm{m}^2$ and the maximum water needed in this area amounts to $155,000\textrm{m}^3$. That means we have to drill 1,406 pumping wells. It is concluded that undertaking the project in this area is irrational or even desperate and surface water should be developed more favorably.

  • There are no exact copies or carvings of India's original Buddhist Scripts published in Korea that had been flowed into Japan except those of WanSanJungUiMongSanPuPo(환산정의몽산법어). YaWoonJaKyung (야운자경). KyeChoShimHakInMoon(계초심학인문) PalSimSooHangChang(발심수행장) and MongsanWhaSangPupoRackLock published by a mid-Chosun Dynasty Buddhist monk, YaWoon TaesunSa. Others are the translations by Chinese people. All printings were of woodblock except ChonjimyungYangsoo- RhockChapMoon(천지명양수육잡문) of Inkyng wood printing type. This shows perhaps that the Buddhists were so devout that they spared no effort in their prayers to head for the Paradise. Even the woodblock carver himself took his hard work for granted in his belief and engraved the blocks with all his heart taking his work as God-given task. Or. perhaps they to use wood-block printing as the demand for the Scripts soared. By the way. as the Koryo Dynasty took Buddhism as the state religion, it was natural that the Buddhist Scripts were published at TaeJangToKam (the publishing office) and were much encouraged. It is noteworthy. however, that not a few Buddhist Scripts had been published during the Chosun Dynasty despite its crack-down on Buddhism as the Confucianism was declared as the state principle. The Scripts were even published by such temples as MoonJooSa(문수사), MyoHeeAm(묘희암). SsangbongSa(쌍봉사). PyoHoonSa(표훈사), YooJupSa(유점사), YongJangSa(용장사). and AnShimSa(안심사). The fact that the Scripts were even published by KanKyungToKam(간경부감) leads us to reconsider the traditional way of thinking of the Chosun Dynasty as anti-Buddhist or flunkeyist. The historical fact that a record number of Buddhist publications had been transmitted to Japan - is it accidental? - This issue could well be another subject matter for further research. However, it should be noted that very few of abovementioned Buddhist Scripts are found in present-day Korea.

  • The debranching enzyme of Nostoc punctiforme (NPDE) is a novel enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of $\alpha$-1,6-glycosidic linkages in starch, followed by the sequential hydrolysis of $\alpha$-1,4-glycosidic linkages. The debranching activity of NPDE is highly specific for branched chains with a degree of polymerization (DP)>8. Moreover, the rate of hydrolysis of $\alpha$-1,4-linkages by NPDE is greatly enhanced for maltooligosaccharides (MOs) with a DP>8. An analysis of reaction mixtures containing various starches revealed the accumulation of maltooctaose (G8) with glucose and maltose. Based on the novel enzymatic properties of NPDE, an MO mixture containing more than 60% G8 with yield of 18 g G8 for 100 g starch was prepared by the reaction of NPDE with soluble starch, followed by ethanol precipitation and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The yield of the G8-rich mixture was significantly improved by the addition of isoamylase. In summary, a 4-step process for the production of a G8-rich mixture was developed involving the enzymatic hydrolysis of starch by NPDE.

  • In this paper, we propose Triple-band antenna, which is practicable for the transmission and the reception of the frequency band used in mobile broadcast and mobile internet. We choose T-DMB(Band-III), DAB(L-Band) for a mobile broadcast and Wibro for a mobile internet. The size of proposal antenna measures $10{\times}74{\times}0.6[mm^3]$. Although being defective in that T-DMB bandwidth is rather narrow, the antenna, considering the reception environment, has an advantage of a realistic possibility of reception in 8 channel($180{\sim}186$ MHz)and 12 channel($206{\sim}210$ MHz) of T-DMB band, being given broadcast services. Also It has gains similar characteristics of ideal dipole antenna in DAB and Wibro band.

  • The change in the demand and perception of wigs worn for hair loss is getting better, but hair extension is emerging as a new treatment method that improves as there are inconvenient areas such as hair loss, bleaching, and tangling of wigs themselves, and time spent on unnatural hair styling and wearing wigs. The purpose of this study is to verify that the quality of life of middle-aged female hair loss is positively affected by hair growth techniques that weave wool strands into their hair. Those surveyed were middle-aged women with hair loss and were analyzed by measuring the quality of life before and after hair growth. The analysis showed that hair increased techniques affects the economic satisfaction, physical satisfaction, mental satisfaction and social satisfaction of middle-aged women with hair loss, indicating that hair increased techniques is effective in improving the quality of life for middle-aged women with hair loss. It is also expected that the beauty industry will develop high value through hair increased techniques, a blue ocean in the beauty market.
