Densitometric features of cell nuclei for grading bladder carcinoma (세포핵 조밀도에 의한 방광암의 진행 단계)

  • A way of quantitatively describing the tissue architecture we have investigated when developing a computer program for malignancy grading of transitional cell bladder carcinoma. The minimum spanning trees, MST was created by connecting the center points of the nuclei in the tissue section image. These nuclei were found by thresholding the image at an automatically determined threshold followed by a connected component labeling and a watershed algorithm for separation of overlapping nuclei. Clusters were defined in the MST by thresholding the edge lengths. For these clusters geometric and densitometric features were measures. These features were compared by multivariate statistical methods to the subjective grading by the pathologists and the resulting correspondence was 85% on a material of 40 samples.

Effects of blade configuration and solidity on starting torque of Darrieus wind turbine

  • This study investigates the effects of blade configuration and solidity of Darrieus wind turbine on the starting torque characteristics. Generally, the configuration of Darrieus wind turbine is divided into Troposkien, parabola, Catenary, Sandia, modified-parabola and straight types. A numerical analysis has been carried out using Multiple Stream Tube (MST) method to investigate the effect of blade configuration and solidity of Darrieus wind turbine on the starting torque under the initial low range of rotational speed. The simulation results show that the starting torque of Darrieus wind turbine varies considerably depending on the blade configuration. The initial starting torque was larger with Troposkien, Parabola, Catenary, and Sandia configurations than with modified parabola or straight types. The increase in solidity with increasing number of blades raised the starting torque and improved the dynamic stability during the initial operational speed of Darrieus wind turbine. Additionally, these torque results represent basic data for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulation of the steady-dynamic operation of the turbine.

  • We provide R scripts to detect outliers in multivariate data and visualization. Detecting outliers is provided using three approaches 1) Robust Mahalanobis distance, 2) High Dimensional data, 3) density-based approach methods. We use the following techniques to visualize detected potential outliers 1) multidimensional scaling (MDS) and minimal spanning tree (MST) with k-means clustering, 2) MDS with fviz cluster, 3) principal component analysis (PCA) with fviz cluster. For real data sets, we use MLB pitching data including Ryu, Hyun-jin in 2013 and 2014. Beneficial Effects of Cynaroside on Cisplatin-Induced Kidney Injury In Vitro and In Vivo

  • Anti-cancer drugs such as cisplatin and doxorubicin are effectively used more than radiotherapy. Cisplatin is a chemotherapeutic drug, used for treatment of various forms of cancer. However, it has side effects such as ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity increases tubular damage and renal dysfunction. Consequently, we investigated the beneficial effect of cynaroside on cisplatin-induced kidney injury using HK-2 cell (human proximal tubule cell line) and an animal model. Results indicated that $10{\mu}M$ cynaroside diminished cisplatin-induced apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and caspase-3 activation, cisplatin-induced upregulation of caspase-3/MST-1 pathway decreased by treatment of cynaroside in HK-2 cells. To confirm the effect of cynaroside on cisplatin-induced kidney injury in vivo, we used cisplatin exposure animal model (20 mg/kg, balb/c mice, i.p., once a day for 3 days). Renal dysfunction, tubular damage and neutrophilia induced by cisplatin injection were decreased by cynaroside (10 mg/kg, i.p., once a day for 3 days). Results indicated that cynaroside decreased cisplatin-induced kidney injury in vitro and in vivo, and it could be used for improving cisplatin-induced side effects. However, further experiments are required regarding toxicity by high dose cynaroside and caspase-3/MST-1-linked signal transduction in the animal model.

  • In this study, two residential complexes, both built in the New City area after 2006 and both composed of over 500 households, were selected to estimate an efficient accessibility and connectivity index using accessibility and connectivity theories and methods from previous studies. With architectural blueprints, the nodes and edges of both residential complexes were drawn out and the accessibility matrixes were derived using these nodes and edges. As a result, the connectivity indices of both residential complexes were lower than 1, the accessibility index of Dong-tan was 86.922 being smaller than the accessibility index of Ilsan, 96.199, and the efficiency index of both residential complexes were similar being 0.26. With these indices it is expected to geometrically estimate the residential complexes and predict the pedestrian passing conveniences.

  • Objectives and methods : To study on the anti-cancer, anti-metastasis and immune response improvement effects of Herbal-acupuncture with Sinomenii acuti Lignum infusion solution(SAL-HAS), we injected Sinomenii acuti Lignum infusion solution into Joksamni$(ST_{36})$ of C57BL/6 mouse which is corresponding to human Joksamni(ST36). We observed its effect on the number of $CD25^+/CD4^+,\;CD8^+/CD3e^+,\;CD69^+/B220^+,\;NK1.1^+/CD3e^+$ cells in mouse PBMCs(peripheral blood mononuclear cells), the number of the pulmonary colony, and the effect on MST(mean survival time) and ILS(increase in MST over control) of C57BL/6 mice implanted intravenously with B16-F10 melanoma. Results and Conclusions : 1. The spleen cells proliferation of the sample groups treated with SAL-HAS extract has increased significantly compared with that of the control group. 2. The percentage of the $CD25^+/CD4^+,\;CD8^+/CD3e^+,\;CD69^+/B220^+,\;NK1.1^+/CD3e^+$ cells in C57BL/6 mouse PBMCs of the sample groups treated with SAL-HAS has increased compared with that of the control group. 3. The pulmonary colony number of the sample groups SAL-HAS has decreased significantly compared with that of the control group. 4. MST and ILS of the sample groups SAL-HAS have increased significantly compared with those of the control group.

Therapeutic Regimens and Prognostic Factors of Brain Metastatic Cancers

  • Objective: This work aims to investigate the therapeutic regimen of brain metastatic cancers and the relationship between clinical features and prognosis. Methods: Clinical data of 184 patients with brain metastatic cancers were collected and analysed for the relationship between survival time and age, gender, primary diseases, quantity of brain metastatic foci, their position, extra cranial lesions, and therapeutic regimens. Results: The average age of onset was 59.1 years old. The median survival time (MST) was 15.0 months, and the patients with breast cancer as the primary disease had the longest survival time. Females had a longer survival time than males. Patients with meningeal metastasis had extremely short survival time. Those with less than 3 brain metastatic foci survived longer than patients with more than 3. The MST of patients receiving radiotherapy only and the patients receiving chemotherapy only were all 10.0 months while the MST of patients receiving combination therapy was 16.0 months. Multiple COX regression analysis demonstrated that gender, primary diseases, and quantity of brain metastatic foci were independent prognostic factors for brain metastatic cancers. Conclusions: Chemotherapy is as important as radiotherapy in the treatment of brain metastatic cancer. Combination therapy is the best treatment mode. Male gender, brain metastatic cancers originating in the gastrointestinal tract, more than 3 metastatic foci, and involvement of meninges indicate a worse prognosis.

  • This paper proposes heuristic greedy algorithm that can be find the solution within polynomial time with solution finding rule for the capacitated minimum spanning tree(CMST) problem, known as NP-hard. The CMST problem can be solved by computer-aided meta-heuristic because of the Esau-Williams heuristic polynomial time algorithm has a poor performance. Nevertheless the meta-heuristic methods has a limit performance that can't find optimal solution. This paper suggests visual by handed solution-finding rule for CMST. The proposed algorithm firstly construct MST, and initial feasible solution of CMST from MST, then optimizes the CMST with the subtree gates more adjacent to root node. As a result of total 30 cases of OR-LIB 10 data, Q=3,5,10, the proposed algorithm gets the best performance.

  • Lateral epicondylitis is caused by repeated use of the wrist, which causes inflammation and pain in the wrist extensor and tendon of the humerus. Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) caused by repetitive resistance exercise affects the tendons connected in series with the muscle, leading to lateral epicondylitis. Although micro-current stimulation has been suggested as a possible treatment for tendinitis, there are insufficient studies on specific variables such as frequency. In this study, 15 healthy adult males and females developed DOMS in the wrist extensor and tendon in the humerus. The experimental group consisted of a low frequency group applying 20 Hz and a high frequency group applying 100 Hz according to the micro-current frequency. Each subject underwent an experiment for 5 days after DOMS, and the recovery rates were compared by measuring AROM, GPT, MST, PPT, and VAS. As a result, the 20 Hz group showed significant changes in AROM, MST, and VAS compared to the control group on the 4th day, and the recovery rate was also higher than that of the 100 Hz group. On the 5th day, recovery rate of 100 Hz group was higher than 20 Hz in AROM and PPT, and MST showed higher recovery rate than 20 Hz group, but there was no significant difference. These results indicate that microcurrent stimulation is effective for the treatment of delayed myalgia and tendon inflammation and that the 100 Hz group has faster recovery than the 20 Hz group.

CD4+, IL17 and Foxp3 Expression in Different pTNM Stages of Operable Non-small Cell Lung Cancer and Effects on Disease Prognosis

  • Objective: To investigate the effects of $CD4^+$, IL17 and Foxp3 expression on prognosis of operable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with different pTNM stages. Methods: Expression of $CD4^+$, IL17 and Foxp3 in 102 cases of NSCLC tissues and adjacent cancer tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry and associations with prognosis with different pTNM stages were analyzed. The Chi-square test was used to compare count data. Survival differences were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier single factor analysis and the COX regression model was used to analyze the relationship between influential factors and the disease prognosis. The significance level was ${\alpha}$=0.05. Results: Expression of CD4, IL-17 and Foxp3 significantly varied in different pTNM stages of NSCLC tissues (P < 0.05). The same was true for CD4 expression (P < 0.05). The median survival time (MST) in the positive CD4 expression group was evidently higher than that in the negative group (25.8/23.9 months). Compared with stage III, the MST difference of stages I and II in the positive CD4 expression group were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The MST in positive IL-17 and Foxp3 expression groups was obviously lower than that in the corresponding negative group (P < 0.05) (25.6/35.1 months and 24/35.3 months, respectively). There was a significant difference of MST between any two of three stages of positive IL-17 expression group (P < 0.05), and it was the same with positive Foxp3 expression group. TNM stage, negative CD4 expression, and positive IL-17 and Foxp3 expression were the main risk factors for the prognosis of NSCLC. Conclusion: Surgical prognosis of NSCLC can be better assessed by the combination of clinical staging and expression of IL17 and Foxp3.
