  • Without a question. the most significant new medium for transmitting information is the Internet. Unfortunately. the multimedia elements that enrich our titles are extremely bulky. While the Internet hype is available in unlimited supply. Internet bandwidth and functionality of web browser are not making the net quite hospitable to multimedia data formats. In this thesis. for smoother and better communications over the net. a study is done on still image compression techniques. based on wavelet transform which is selected on MPEG-4 as a still image compression standard and a strong candidate for the JPEG-2000 standard. For Internet service. the study of plug-in programming and ActiveX control is implemented to enrich the functionality of web browser. As a result. the proposed still image service gives better image quality than current standard JPEG and does not yield to the common blocking artifacts.

  • It is issued that protecting and managing a copyright are very important to a digitization of multimedia content. All of these techniques are for developing solution about protection and management of the copyright and media service. These have been at the head of the growth of the whole media service, but cause problems such as a illegal copy and distribution. To solve these problems, researchers are performing many projects. We analyze the trend of a multimedia service IPMP(Intellectual Property Management and Protection), DMP(Digital Media Project), ENTHRONE(End-to-end Qos through Integrated Management of Content, Networks and Terminals), and DRM(Digital Rights Management).

  • Currently broadcasting and telecommunication has integrated, And IPTV Service has appeared who called TPS(Triple Play Service) which integrated with broadcasting, telecommunication and Phone Service. IPTV provide broadcasting service and VOD(Video on Demand) service, and it must be satisfied digital content security. For this condition, IPTV Forum working on standardization of interface for digital content security. The Security solution for broadcasting and VOD are CAS(Conditional Access System) and DRM(Digital Rights Management). But these solutions manufactured by many vendors, so there is no inter-operablity. And after finished standardization of interface for CAS and DRM system, the problem of inter-operability with them will be issued. For this reason, Rights management system which possible to operate independently with platform is necessary. In this paper, To protect multimedia digital content, we designed and implemented Conditional Access Management System.

  • The desired level for multimedia services in the mobile web environment, the next generation web environment, is expected to be of PC level quality. And great efforts have been made in the development of hadware technology, communication technology, various kinds of services and standardization to support these services, In the mobile web environment, multimedia contents adaptation services should be available through supporting various kinds of devices, network abilities and users' preferences. It means that due to the variety of both desired devices' hardware specifications, called destinations, and desired QoSes, the QoSes in the destinations are not fixed or defined. If a new user wants to stream multimedia contents in a server through a new kind of terminal device, it should be considered whether the existing transcoders are able to adapt the multimedia contents. However, the existing libraries for multimedia adaptation have heavy transcoder figures which include all adaptive functions in one library, The challenge of universal access is too complex to be solved with these all in one solutions. Therefore, in this paper we propose an application independent multimedia adaptation framework which meets the QoS of new and varied mobile devices. This framework is composed of a group of unit transcoders having only one transcoding function respectively, Instead of heavy transcoders. Also, It includes the transcoder manager supporting the dynamic connections of the unit transcoders in order to satisfy end to end QoS.
