  • The video shot detection based on video picture type is presented in this paper. The detection algorithm is used MPEG compressed video frame directly, not reconstructed the original image. For shot detection, I and P frame of MPEG video bit stream are classified. The detecting scene cuts at I pictures are detected by reconstructed DC image. While scene cuts at P picture frame by monitoring the percentage of Intra-macroblocks per P picture. Experimental results on the test video bit stream is shown the detection rate of $85\sim98%$ and searching time is 4 times faster than the previously known video shot detection algorithm on the decompressed video shot.

  • The special effects on the compressed :vII'EG domain become one of the interesting problems. In this paper, we developed minimal deCilder to effect in DCT compressed domain, proposed the video effects including wipe, dissolve, and zooming. To increase the expandability and portabilitv, the minimal decoder and the effects arc implemented to filters of COM based DirectShow.

  • The MPEG-2 video compressed bitstream is very sensitive to transmission errors due to the complex coding structure of the MPEG-2 video coding standard. If one packet is lost or received with errors, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also errors will propagate to succeeding frames within a group of pictures. Therefore, we employ various error resilient coding/decoding techniques to protect and reduce the transmission error effects. Error concealment technique is one of them. Error concealment technique exploits spatial and temporal redundancies of the correctly received video data to conceal the corrupted video data. Motion vector recovery and compensation with the estimated motion vector is good approach to conceal the corrupted data. In this paper, we propose various error concealment algorithms based on motion vector recovery, and compare their performance to those of conventional error concealment methods.

  • This paper addresses the problem of extracting video objects from compressed video signals. Compressed videos include several informations about moving objects. An useful cue for object segmentation is motion vector per macroblock which sparse in MPEG. We propose a method for automatically estimating and extracting moving objects using motion vectors of macroblocks in this work.

  • Watermarking is one of the methods that insist on a copyright as it append digital signals in digital informations.(image, video, ets) In this paper, we proposed a digital watermarking algorithm which improved Gradient of DCT Coefficient. This method targets MPEG-2 TM5 system and watermarking process is to be performed during Quantization DCT. Watermark was inserted on Y components of each frames. The PSNR difference between the compressed images with and without watermarking was only 0..23dB. In each case that the resulting image was reusable the normalized correlation between the extracted watermark and the original one was above 0.99.

  • A macroblock(MB) in MPEG coded domain can have zero, one, or two motion vectors depending on its frame type and prediction direction (forward-, backward-, or hi-directionally). In this paper, we propose a method that converts these motion vectors on MPEG coded domain as a uniform set, independent of the frame type and the direction of prediction, and directly utilizes these re-analyzed motion vectors for understanding video contents. Also, using this frame-type-independent motion vector, we propose novel methods for detecting and tracking moving objects with frame-based detection accuracy on the compressed domain. These algorithms are performed directly from the MPEG bitstreams after VLC decoding with little time consumption. Experimental results show validity and outstanding performance of our methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient image size selection method for video-based point cloud compression. The current MPEG video-based point cloud compression reference encoding process configures a threshold on the size of images while converting point cloud data into images. Because the converted image is compressed and restored by the legacy video codec, the size of the image is one of the main components in influencing the compression efficiency. If the image size can be made smaller than the image size determined by the threshold, compression efficiency can be improved. Here, we studied how to improve the compression efficiency by selecting the best-fit image size generated during video-based point cloud compression. Experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce the encoding time by 6 percent without loss of coding performance compared to the test model 15.0 version of video-based point cloud encoder.

  • This paper proposes a prototype realization of multi-view HD video transport system with synchronized multiplexing over IP networks. The proposed synchronized multiplexing considers the synchronization during video acquisition and the multiplexing for the interactive view-selection during transport. For the synchronized acquisition from multiple HDV camcorders through IEEE 1394 interface, we estimate the timeline differences among MPEG-2 compressed video streams by using global time of network between the cameras and a server and correct timelines of video streams by changing the time stamp of the MPEG-2 system stream. Also, we multiplex a selected number of acquired HD views at the MPEG-2 TS (transport stream) level for the interactive view-selection during transport. Thus, with the proposed synchronized multiplexing scheme, we can display synchronized HD view.
