Phase Transition and Relaxor Behaviors in the Lead Magnesium Niobate-based Ferroelectrics (Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-based 강유전체의 상전이 및 완화특성)

  • Dielectric and pyroelectric properties of relaxor ferroelectric in the PMN-PT solid solution series have been investigated. Features of the diffuse phase transition in PMN-PT system, typical relaxor ferroelectric materials, were studied as a function of temperature and frequency. The transition temperature of the ceramics with PT$\sim$0.325 did not depend on the measuring frequency. This can best realized in a relatively random environment that apparently is provided by PMN-rich complex perovskites, including those containing Pb. The composition with PT>0.35 show the characteristics of a normal single phase ferroelectric material. Thus the studies revealed that the morphotropic phase boundary in the PMN-PT system is in the vicinity of PT$\sim$0.3 and it has a small curvature and as a result the compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary show two phase transitions, rhombohedral$\rightarrow$tetragonal$\rightarrow$cubic, when the samples are heated up to higher temperature. The best optimum compositions are observed near the morphotropic phase boundary.

  • In this study, the microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of $0.15Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.85(PbZr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$(0.15PNN-0.85PZT) ceramics having compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary(MPB) was investigated with respect to the variation of $Y_2O_3$ and $Ga_2O_3$ addition amount. The dielectric properties increased and piezoelectric properties decreased with increasing the amount of $Ga_2O_3$. The solubility limit of $Y_2O_3$ is 0.5mol% in this system. The electro-mechanical coupling factor$(K_p)$ and dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) were 58.6% and 1755 when the amount of $Y_2O_3$ are 0.5mol%.

  • 본 연구에서는 (1-x) Pb(Zr0.515Ti0.485)$O_3$ - x Pb$(Sb_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ + 0.5wt% $MnO_2$ 조성에 Pb$(Sb_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ (PSN) (x=0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08) 변화에 따른 미세구조 및 압전, 유전특성에 관해 고찰하였다. PSN 치환량이 증가함에 따라 정방정 (tetragonal)구조에서 삼방정(rhombohedral)구조로 상전이가 일어났으며, 결정립의 크기가 작아지는 것을 확인하였다. 전기기계결합계수 (kp) 는 PSN이 4 mol % 치환됨에 따라 증가하였으며, 더 이상 치환 시 감소하였다. PSN 치환에 따른 전기적 특성은, 결정구조, 결정립의 크기 및 2 차상 등의 미세구조와 긴밀한 관계가 있는 것으로 보여진다. 상경계(Morphotropic Phase Boundary) 영역인 0.96 Pb(Zr0.515Ti0.485)$O_3$ - 0.04 Pb$(Sb_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ + 0.5wt% $MnO_2$ 조성에서 $\varepsilon{^T}_{33}/\varepsilon_o$ = 1109, $k_p$= 70.8 (%), $d_{33}$= 325 (pC/N)의 우수한 특성을 나타내었다.

  • In this study, BiFe$O_3$-BaTi$O_3$ ceramics have been fabricated by a solid-state reaction method. The effects of BaTi$O_3$ content in the (1-x)BiFe$O_3$-xBaTi$O_3$ (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5) system on crystal structure and magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. Perovskite BiFe$O_3$ was stabilized through the formation of a solid solution with BaTi$O_3$. Rhombohedrally distorted structure (1-x)BiFe$O_3$-xBaTi$O_3$ ceramics showed strong ferromagnetism at x = 0.5. Dielectric and ferroelectric properties of the BiFe$O_3$-BaTi$O_3$ system also changed significantly upon addition of BaTi$O_3$. It was found that the maximum dielectric and ferroelectric properties were exhibited in the (1-x)BiFe$O_3$-xBaTi$O_3$ system at x = 0.25. This suggested the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) with the coexistence of both rhombohedral and cubic phases of the (1-x)BiFe$O_3$-xBaTi$O_3$ system at x = 0.25.

Transferrin-Conjugated Liposome/IL-12 pDNA Complexes for Cancer Gene Therapy in Mice

  • Transferrin ($T_{f}$) has been used as a targeting ligand for delivering liposome/interleukin-12 (IL-12) pDNA complexes to cancer cells mostly due to the greater number of transferrin receptors ($T_{f}R$) found on tumor cells than on normal cells. $T_{f}$ was conjugated to liposomes via the reaction of MPB-PE with thiol groups of $T_{f}$ introduced by a heterobifunctional cross-linking agent, N-succinimidyl-3-(2-pyridyldithio)propionate (SPDP). Four days after C26 inoculation when the tumor volume reached ${\sim}100mm^{3}$, tumor-bearing Balb/c mice were injected intravenously with $T_{f}-liposome/IL-12 pDNA$complexes twice a week for 3 weeks. Significant suppression of tumor growth was achieved in the group treated with the $T_{f}-liposome/IL-12 pDNA$ complexes, with a dose of $10{\mu}g$ of IL-12 pDNA showing the highest suppression effect among the tested doses. Similar results were obtained when the therapy was initiated one day after tumor inoculation, although in this case $30{\mu}g$ IL-12 pDNA/$T_{f}-liposome$ complexes showed a significant suppression of tumor growth between 19 and 23 days after tumor inoculation. This result indicates that the transferrin receptor-targeted liposomal system is an efficient delivery agent of therapeutic genes, such as IL-12, in mice and that its potential clinical use warrants further research investigation.

Energy Efficient Alloy Design in PSN-PMN-PZT Ceramic System for Piezoelectric Transformer Application (고효율 압전 트랜스포머용 PSN-PMN-PZT 조성 설계)

  • In order to enhance energy efficiency in high electric conversion devices such as Power transformers, which need to have high power properties, an alloy design approach in $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3(PZT)$ base ceramic system was attempted $0.03Pb(Sb_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3-0.03Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-(0.94-x)PbTiO_3-xPbZrO_3$[PSN-PMN- PZT] ceramics were synthesized by conventional bulk ceramic processing technique. To improve power properties, the various Zr/Ti ratio was varied ]lear their morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition of PSN-PMN-PZT system and their effects on subsequent piezoelectric and dielectric properties for the transformer application at high power were systematically investigated using an impedance analyzer. Microstructure and phase information were characterized using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and others. When the Zr/Ti ratio was 0.415/0.465, the value of $Q_m\;and\;k_p$ were shown to reach to the maximum, indicating that this alloy design can be a feasible composition :or high power transformer.

  • [ $[Li_{0.04}(Na_{0.54}K_{0.46})_{0.96}](Nb_{1-0.04-X}TaxSb_{0.04})O_3$ ]lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have been prepared by normal sintering at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that specimens demonstrate orthorhombic symmetry when $Ta\leq5$ mol%. While transforming into tetragonal symmetry when $x\geq20$ mol%. These suggest that the orthorhombic and tetragonal phases co-exist in the ceramics with 5 mol% $cm^3$. As the result of SEM images, the grain growth was decreased with the increase of Ta substitution. The ceramics become 'softening', leading to improvements in $k_p$, $\varepsilon_r$ and $d_{33}$, but a decrease in $Q_m$. Excellent properties of $k_p$= 0.46, $d_{33}$= 293 pC/N, ${\varepsilon}_r$= 1,583 and Tc= $340^{\circ}C$ were obtained when Ta= 15 mol%.

  • PbTiO$_{3}$-PbZrO$_{3}$-Pb(Ni$_{1}$3/Nb $_{2}$3/O$_{3}$)(PZT-PNN) thin films were prepared from corresponding metal organics partially stabilized with diethanolamine by the sol-gel spin coating method. Each mol rates of PT:PZ:PNN solutions were #1(50:40:10), #2(50:30:20), #3(45:35:20) and #4(40:40:20), respectively. The spin-coated PZT-PNN films were sintered at the temperature from 500.deg. C to 600.deg. C for crystallization. The P-E hysteresis curve was drawn by Sawyer-Tower circuit with PZT-PNN film. The coercive field and the remanent polarization of #4(40:40:20 mol%) PZT-PNN film were 28.8 kV/cm and 18.3 .mu.C/cm$^{2}$, respectively. Their dielectric constants were shown between 128 and 1120, and became maximum value in MPB(40:40:20 mol%). The leakage currents of PZT-PNN films were about 9.4x 10$^{-8}$ A/cm$^{2}$, and the breakdown voltages were about 0.14 and 1.1 MV/cm. The Curie point of #3(45:35:20 mol%, sintered at 600.deg. C) film was 330.deg. C.

  • 본연구에서는 초음파 모터 등의 고출력 액츄에이터에 응용 가능한 $0.4Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$-$0.6Pb(Zr_{0.405}Ti_{0.595})O_3$ + 0.25wt% $Fe_2O_3$ 조성시스템에 $MnO_2$ (0~1 wt.%)첨가하여 압전, 유전특성 및 미세구조에 관해 고찰하였다. 본조성을 $1125{\sim}1175^{\circ}C$ 온도에서 2시간 소결하여 시편을 제조하였으며 이의 결정구조 및 미세조직을 분석하였다. $MnO_2$ 첨가량 증가에 따라 압전 상수와 전기기계결함계수는 감소하였으며, 기계적 품질계수는 0.5 wt% 첨가시까지 증가하였으나 첨가량이 그 이상 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 압전특성은 $1125^{\circ}C$에서 소결한 $MnO_2$ 0.5wt%조성에서 ${\varepsilon}r$ = 2040, kp = 0.66, $d_{33}$ = 504, Qm=438의 우수한 특성을 나타내었다.

Effects of Al2O3 on the Piezoelectric Properties of Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbZrO3-PbTiO3 Ceramics (Pb(Mn1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbZrO3-PbTiO3 세라믹스의 압전특성에 미치는 Al2O3의 영향)

  • Piezoelectric properties of $Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbZrO_3-PbTiO_3$ ceramics were investigated with $Al_2O_3$ content $(0.0-1.0 wt\%)$. The constituent phases, microstructure, electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric charge and voltage constants were analyzed. Diffraction peaks for (002) and (200) planes were identified by X-ray diffractometer for all the specimens doped with $Al_2O_3$, indicating the MPB (morphotropic phase boundary) composition of tetragonal structures. The highest sintered density of $7.8 g/cm^3$ was obtained for $0.2wt\%\;Al_2O_3-doped$ specimen. Grain size increased by doping $Al_2O_3$ up to $0.3 wt\%$, and it decreased by more doping. Electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric charge and voltage constants increased by doping $Al_2O_3$ up to $0.2wt\%$, and it decreased by more doping. This might result from the formation of oxygen vacancies due to defects in $O^{2-}$ ion sites and the substitution of $Al^{3+}$ ions.
