  • Although retailers deals with a large number of single-term inventory items, but few cases have been considered in the areas of practical decision making. However, recent moves to strengthen fair trade have created a real need for single-period inventory decision-making problems. This study addresses the problem of ordering quantity decisions that are expected to maximize profits using classical newsvendor models. The research target is data on seasonal and perishable products from retail. We also use data from retailers to actually apply the newsvendor model and calculate the results to compare performance. It also suggests solutions for estimating demand for products sold in order to apply newsvendor models that utilize actual demand ratio versus forecast demand. This study would like to examine the effectiveness of this research through data analysis and make some suggestions for applying it to reality.

  • In this paper, the goal is to investigate how manipulating the camera can minimize motion sickness and maximize immersion when a user moves in a virtual environment that requires vertical movement. In general, since a user uses virtual reality in a flat space, the actual movement of the user and the virtual movement are different, resulting in sensory conflict, which has the possibility of causing virtual reality motion sickness. Therefore, we propose three powerful camera manipulation techniques, implement them, and then propose which model is most appropriate through user experiments.

  • In this paper, we describe a method of detecting emergency situation using images from surveillance cameras and propose a mobile robot tracking system for detailed examination of that situation. We are able to track a few persons and recognize their actions by an analyzing image sequences acquired from a fixed camera on all sides of buildings. When emergency situation is detected, a mobile robot moves and closely examines the place where the emergency is occurred. In order to recognize actions of a few persons using a sequence of images from surveillance cameras images, we need to track and manage a list of the regions which are regarded as human appearances. Interest regions are segmented from the background using MOG(Mixture of Gaussian) model and continuously tracked using appearance model in a single image. Then we construct a MHI(Motion History Image) for a tracked person using silhouette information of region blobs and model actions. Emergency situation is finally detected by applying these information to neural network. And we also implement mobile robot tracking technology using the distance between the person and a mobile robot.

  • Thermal condition according to the operation attitude of a satellite in orbit would be essential to be known because the orbit attitude is a dominant factor to affect satellite thermal design. In this paper, the change in space thermal environment and the thermal effect in thermal design are studied for a low earth orbit satellite according to the yaw motion. The present satellite retains sun-pointing attitude during daylight due to the fixed type solar arrays. And it also moves along the orbit with constant yaw motion in a longitudinal axis so that a star tracker which is a star sensor for satellite's attitude control always looks into the deep space. This attitude is considered in its better visibility to the stars for a successful mission operation. Also, it is required to access the corresponding thermal effects due to the yaw motion. Therefore, we try to verify these by the thermal analysis for the satellite thermal model with the yaw motion.

  • This paper presents a method of improving the service availability by distributing the traffic of voice/data calls over the multi-layer cells in a mobile communication network. The traffic model is described and the call handling performance is analyzed. In our method, a fast moving call is moved to and serviced in the upper layer cell. A call is also moved upward when an overflow occurs. But unlike other methods, the call that is moved upward in the overflow case is the one which has the longest sojourn time in the cell. Moreover, when the call that was moved upward due to overflow condition stays longer than a certain period of time in the upper layer cell, the system moves the call back to the lower layer in order to save the more expensive resources of the upper layer cell. Call handling performance of this method evaluated from M/M/C/K models shows clear improvement with respect to call blocking probability and forced termination probability.

  • This paper describes a new effective algorithm to estimate routing congestion and to resolve highly congested regions for a given detailed placement. The major features of the proposed technique can be summarized as follows. Firstly, if there are congested regions due to some nets which pass through the regions it can determine which cells affect those congested spots seriously and moves some of them to resolve congestion effectively. Secondly, since the proposed technique uses the ripple movement technique to move cells it resolves congestion without sacrificing wire length. Thirdly, we use an efficient incremental data structure to trace the changes in congestion and wire length as cells move. Hence, selection of cells to move could be very accurate and fast in the course of iteration. Finally, although an MST net model is used to resolve congestion in this paper, proposed technique can be work with any net model. Particularly, if proposed technique can obtain routing information from a real router, congestion can be resolved more effectively. Experimental results show that the proposed technique can resolve congestion effectively and efficiently without sacrificing wire length.

  • Suppression of sloshing is essential to achieve fast transportation and stable maneuvering of tanks partially filled with liquid. In this study, numerical simulations are performed to investigate the effects of the acceleration magnitude and the acceleration duration of triangular velocity profiles on sloshing when a rectangular tank moves horizontally. We previously reported, based on only the first natural mode, that sloshing is significantly suppressed when the acceleration duration equals the first natural period of sloshing. On the other hand, the present CFD simulations find the best acceleration duration for minimum sloshing and explains the results considering higher modes as well as the first mode. We also perform the analysis using an equivalent model based on masses and springs, and evaluate its accuracy by comparing it with the CFD simulation results.

  • This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for tracking the fast moving human body. Although Iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm is suitable for real-time tracking due to its efficiency and low computational complexity, ICP often fails to converge when the human body moves fast because the closest point may be mistakenly selected and trapped in a local minimum. To overcome such limitation, we combine a particle filter based on a motion history information with the ICP. The proposed human body motion tracking algorithm reduces the search space for each limb by employing a hierarchical tree structure, and enables tracking of the fast moving human bodies by using the motion prediction based on the motion history. Experimental results show that the proposed human body motion tracking provides accurate tracking performance and fast convergence rate.

  • In order to extract the contour of interesting object in the image, Kass suggested the Active Contour Model called "Snakes" The speed of this model is slow and this model is sensitive of initialization. In order to improve these problems, Gunn extracted the accurate contour by using two initializations, and operated to less sensitive of initialization. This method could extract more accurate contour than the existing method, but it had no effect in the speed and it was sensitive of noise. This paper applied to the Energy Minimization Algorithm about only the pixel within the window applying the window of $8{\times}8$ size at each contour point consisting Snakes in order to solve these problems. In order to less sensitive of noise which exists within image, it suggests a method that moves the window to vertical direction for the gradient of each contour point.our point.

  • Most pier performance analysis results for ad-hoc routing protocols have been based upon the model which each node in the network moves independently without restriction. In most real environments, however, it is very common for a group or multiple groups to move under the direction of group leader or group leaders instead of each node's independent movement. This paper presents the performance analysis of routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc network under group mobility environment. The comparative simulations have been made between a table-driven protocol, DSDV, and two on-demand protocols, AODV and DSR, under a group mobility model, RPGM, which is suitable for the practical applications such as military tactical operation. Multiple group movements are also included. The results show that the protocol performances for single group movement are very similar to node independent movement case. However some differences have been observed by varying pause time and connectivity.
