The production of grain for export and domestic use is one of Australia's most important agricultural industries, and the NIR technique has been used extensively over many years for the routine monitoring of grain quality, particularly moisture and protein content. Because most Australian grain is intended for human food production, the determinants of grain quality for livestock feed, apart from protein, have been largely ignored. However the increasing use of grain for feeding to pigs, poultry, beef cattle and dairy cows has led to an important national research project entitled “Premium Grains for Livestock”. Two of the objectives of this project are to determine the compositional and functional characteristics of grains which influence their nutritional quality for the various classes of livestock, and to adopt rapid and objective analytical tests for these quality criteria. NIR has been used in this project firstly to identify a set of grain samples from a large population of breeders' lines which showed a wide spectral variation, and hence a potentially wide variation in nutritional value. The selected samples were not only subjected to an extensive array of chemical, physical and in vitro analyses, but also were grown out to produce sufficient quantities of grain to feed to animals in vivo studies. Additional grains were also strategically selected from farms in order to include the effect of weather damage, such as rain, drought and frost. In this study to date, NIR calibrations have been derived or attempted, on both ground and whole grains, for in vivo dry matter digestibility (DMD), pepsin-cellulase dry matter disappearance, protein, fat, acid detergent fibre, neutral detergent fibre, starch, in sacco DMD and in vitro assays to simulate starch digestion in the lumen and small intestine. Results so far indicate high calibration accuracy for chemical components (SECV 0.3 to 2.6%) and very promising statistics for in vivo DMD (SECV 1.8, $R^2$ 0.93, SD 7.0, range 61.9 to 92.3, n=60). There appears to be some potential for NIR to estimate some in vitro properties, depending upon the accuracy of reference methods and appropriate sample populations. Current work is in progress to extend the range of grains with in vivo DMD values (a very laborious and expensive process) and to increase the robustness of the various NIR calibrations, with the aim of implementing uniform testing procedures for nutritional value of grains throughout Australia.

In linear discriminant analysis there are two important properties concerning the effectiveness of discriminant function modeling. The first is the separability of the discriminant function for different classes. The separability reaches its optimum by maximizing the ratio of between-class to within-class variance. The second is the stability of the discriminant function against noises present in the measurement variables. One can optimize the stability by exploring the discriminant variates in a principal variation subspace, i. e., the directions that account for a majority of the total variation of the data. An unstable discriminant function will exhibit inflated variance in the prediction of future unclassified objects, exposed to a significantly increased risk of erroneous prediction. Therefore, an ideal discriminant function should not only separate different classes with a minimum misclassification rate for the training set, but also possess a good stability such that the prediction variance for unclassified objects can be as small as possible. In other words, an optimal classifier should find a balance between the separability and the stability. This is of special significance for multivariate spectroscopy-based classification where multicollinearity always leads to discriminant directions located in low-spread subspaces. A new regularized discriminant analysis technique, the principal discriminant variate (PDV) method, has been developed for handling effectively multicollinear data commonly encountered in multivariate spectroscopy-based classification. The motivation behind this method is to seek a sequence of discriminant directions that not only optimize the separability between different classes, but also account for a maximized variation present in the data. Three different formulations for the PDV methods are suggested, and an effective computing procedure is proposed for a PDV method. Near-infrared (NIR) spectra of blood plasma samples from daily monitoring of two Japanese cows have been used to evaluate the behavior of the PDV method in comparison with principal component analysis (PCA), discriminant partial least squares (DPLS), soft independent modeling of class analogies (SIMCA) and Fisher linear discriminant analysis (FLDA). Results obtained demonstrate that the PDV method exhibits improved stability in prediction without significant loss of separability. The NIR spectra of blood plasma samples from two cows are clearly discriminated between by the PDV method. Moreover, the proposed method provides superior performance to PCA, DPLS, SIMCA md FLDA, indicating that PDV is a promising tool in discriminant analysis of spectra-characterized samples with only small compositional difference.
Space-borne Earth observation technique is one of the most cost effective and rapidly advancing Earth science research tools today and the potential field and micro-wave radar applications have been leading the discipline. The traditional optical imaging systems including the well known Landsat, NOAA - AVHRR, SPOT, and IKONOS have steadily improved spatial imaging resolution but increasing cloud covers have the major deterrent. The new Earth observation satellites ENVISAT (launched on March 1 2002, specifically for Earth environment observation), ALOS (planned for launching in 2004 - 2005 period and ALOS stands for Advanced Land Observation Satellite), and RADARSAT-II (planned for launching in 2005) all have synthetic aperture radar (SAR) onboard, which all have partial or fully polarimetric imaging capabilities. These new types of polarimetric imaging radars with repeat orbit interferometric capabilities are opening up completely new possibilities in Earth system science research, in addition to the radar altimeter and scatterometer. The main advantage of a SAR system is the all weather imaging capability without Sun light and the newly developed interferometric capabilities, utilizing the phase information in SAR data further extends the observation capabilities of directional surface covers and neotectonic surface displacements. In addition, if one can utilize the newly available multiple frequency polarimetric information, the new generation of space-borne SAR systems is the future research tool for Earth observation and global environmental change monitoring. The potential field strength decreases as a function of the inverse square of the distance between the source and the observation point and geophysicists have traditionally been reluctant to make the potential field observation from any space-borne platforms. However, there have recently been a number of potential field missions such as ASTRID-2, Orsted, CHAMP, GRACE, GOCE. Of course these satellite sensors are most effective for low spatial resolution applications. For similar objects, AMPERE and NPOESS are being planned by the United States and France. The Earth science disciplines which utilize space-borne platforms most are the astronomy and atmospheric science. However in this talk we will focus our discussion on the solid Earth and physical oceanographic applications. The geodynamic applications actively being investigated from various space-borne platforms geological mapping, earthquake and volcano .elated tectonic deformation, generation of p.ecise digital elevation model (DEM), development of multi-temporal differential cross-track SAR interferometry, sea surface wind measurement, tidal flat geomorphology, sea surface wave dynamics, internal waves and high latitude cryogenics including sea ice problems.

Recently, IoT technology has been applied in various field. In particular, the technology focuses on analysing large amount of data that has been gathered from the environmental sensors, to provide valuable information. This technique has been actively researched in the agro-industrial sector. Many researches are underway in the monitoring and control for growth crop environment in agro-industrial. Normally, the average weather data is provided by the manual agro-control method but the value may differ due to the different region's weather and environment that may cause problem in the disease and insect-pest prevention. In order to develop a suitable integrated system for fruit tree, all the necessary information is obtained from the Jeollanam-do province, which has the high production rate in the Korea. In this paper, we propose an integrated support platform for the growing crops, to minimize the damage caused due to the weather disaster through image analysis, forecasting models, by using the micro-climate weather information collection and CCTV. The fruit tree damage caused by the weather disaster are controlled by utilizing various IoT technology by maintaining the growth environment, which helps in the disease and insect-pest prevention and also helps farmers to improve the expected production.
The diurnal variation in pollen vertical distributions in the atmosphere was observed by a surface-based lidar remote sensing technique. Aerosol extinction coefficient and depolarization ratio at 532 nm were obtained from lidar measurements in spring ($4^{th}$ May - $2^{nd}$ June) 2009 at Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (GIST) located in Gwangju, Korea ($35.15^{\circ}E$, $126.53^{\circ}N$). Unusual variations of depolarization ratio were observed for six days from $4^{th}$ to $9^{th}$ May. Depolarization ratios varied from 0.08 to 0.14 were detected at the low altitude in the morning. The altitude with those high depolarization ratios was increased up to 1.5 - 2.0 km at the time interval between 12:00 and 14:00 LT and then decreased. The temporal variations in high values of depolarization ratios from lidar measurements show good agreement in patterns with the sampled pollen concentrations measured using the Burkard trap sampler. This study demonstrates that the pollen distribution data obtained by lidar measurements can be a useful tool for investigating spatial and temporal characteristic of pollen particles.

Runoff characteristics of the Oedocheon in Jeju island were investigated using the long-term stream stage monitoring data. At the Cheonah valley in the upstream area and Oedocheon downstream, annual runoff occurred 21 and 12 times, respectively, and their average runoff periods were 21 days and 12 days, respectively. Stream stage response time to rainfall was 4 hours, and storm-water transfer from the upstream, Cheonah valley, to the Oedocheon downstream took about 2 hours. The stream discharge measurements had been carried out from Feb. 2004 to Jul. 2005, and showed that normal discharge of the Oedocheon was 0.39 $m^3$/sec in average. Stage-discharge curves were developed to estimate base flow (normal discharge) and (direct) surface runoff. The base flow separations by a numerical filtering technique illustrated that annual surface runoff and base flow accounted respectively for 31.8${\sim}$36.5%, 63.5${\sim}$68.2% of the total stream discharge.
Exessive sweating of the palms and soles, is a psychologically and occupationally distressing and sometimes disabling condition. Hyperhidrosis is one of the common abnormalities in autonomic nervous system. There were no specific treatment on hyperhidrosis, so invasive thoracic sympathectomy via axillary thoracotomy or cervical approach had been used. Video-assisted thoracic surgery(VATS) is now mostly performed for treating of the palmar and axillary hyperhidrosis. From March 1996 to March 1997, 15 patients with bilateral palmar hyperhidrosis had been treated by the bilateral thoracic sympathectomy(T2, T3, T4) with thoracoscopic resection. The patient were evaluated preoperative and postoperative Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging (DITI) at Kyung-Hee University Hospital. There were no case of the thoracotomy conversion. There were 3 complications ; pulmonary edema in 1 case, Horner's syndrome in 1 case, and gustatory hyperhidrosis in 1 case. More than half of the patients also had compensatory sweating in the lower abdomen, the buttocks, the back and the thighs. In conclusion, most of the patients were satisfied with the postoperative results of the thoracoscopic sympathectomy, including no more palmar and axillary sweating, less pain, better cosmetic appearances, decreased sweating of the face and soles. In addition, intraoperative temperature monitoring of the hands could estimate the successful thoracoscopic sympathectomy and the preoperative and postoperative Digital infrared thermographic imaging(DITI) could especially be the technique for the objective manifestation of the successful results of the thoracoscopic sympathectomy.

This experiment was conducted to establish an analytical method for residues of amisulbrom, as recently developed an oomycete-specific fungicide showing inhibition of fungal respiration, in crops using HPLC-UVD/MS. Amisulbrom residue was extracted with acetonitrile from representative samples of five raw products which comprised apple, green pepper, kimchi cabbage, potato and hulled rice. The extract was diluted with 50 mL of saline water and directly partitioned into dichloromethane to remove polar co-extractives in the aqueous phase. For the hulled rice sample, n-hexane/acetonitrile partition was additionally employed to remove non-polar lipids. The extract was finally purified by optimized Florisil column chromatography. On an octadecylsilyl column in HPLC, amisulbrom was successfully separated from sample co-extractives and sensitively quantitated by ultraviolet absorption at 255 nm with no interference. Accuracy and precision of the proposed method was validated by the recovery test on every crop samples fortified with amisulbrom at 3 concentration levels per crop in each triplication. Mean recoveries ranged from 85.3% to 105.6% in five representative agricultural commodities. The coefficients of variation were all less than 10%, irrespective of sample types and fortification levels. Limit of quantitation (LOQ) of amisulbrom was 0.04 mg/kg as verified by the recovery experiment. A confirmatory method using LC/MS with selected-ion monitoring technique was also provided to clearly identify the suspected residue. The proposed method was sensitive, reproducible and easy-to-operate enough to routinely determine the residue of amisulbrom in agricultural commodities.
In recent years, the requirements on the high quality environment monitoring by using the sensor nodes which can handle the multimedia data in WSN have been increased. However, because the volume of multimedia data is tremendous, the limited bandwidth of a wireless channel may incur the bottleneck of a system. To solve such a problem, most of the existing distributed multi-path routing protocols based on multimedia data just focused on overcoming the limited bandwidth in order to enhance the energy efficiency and the transmission rate. However, because the existing methods can not apply a key-based technique to encrypt the multimedia data, they are very weak for the security. In this paper, we propose a secure disjointed multipath routing scheme for multimedia data transmission. Since our proposed scheme divides multimedia data(eg. image) into pixels and sends them through disjointed multipath routing, it can provide security to the whole network without using the key-based method. Our experimental results show that our proposed scheme reduces about 10% the amount of the energy consumption and about 65% the amount of the missed data packets caused by malicious nodes over the existing methods on average.
The ESR is one of the oldest laboratory test still in use. Although it lacks specificity in diagnosis, it can be effective for monitoring disease activity and following-up. The Westergren method is used for reference method, however coefficient of variation has been described 0.8% to 22.9% according to the literature. Since the ESR was invented in 1921, measurement technique has developed and automated measurement is introduced. We analyzed one hundred forty-three patient samples using $SEDIsystem^{TM}$ automated ESR measuring system and compared with modified Westergren and Wintrobe methods. Comparison between $SEDIsystem^{TM}$ and modified Westergren for ESR measurement yields the following regression equation; y = 0.863x - 1.69 (r=0.830), $SEDIsystem^{TM}$ and Wintrobe y = 1.14x - 14.7 (r=0.789), respectively. We repeated measurement to evaluate reliability, results are not significant in statistically. In conclusion, $SEDIsystem^{TM}$ automated ESR measurement correlated with modified Westergren and Wintrobe methods, reveal reliable results after 4 hours and can report rapidly for large samples. Thus, these results indicate that $SEDIsystem^{TM}$ automated ESR measurement may be useful tool for clinical practice.
