Minimization of Excess Activated Sludge in Nonwoven Fabric Filter Bioreactor (부직포 여과막 생물반응조에서의 폐활성슬러지 감량화)

  • Among the various methods for minimization of waste activated sludge, maintaining a low F/M ratio in the bioreactor is known to be the most effective reliable one. In this research, various experiments were performed to check the capability of the nonwoven fabric filter bioreactor, which has been proved able to maintain a low F/M ratio by maintaining a high MLSS concentration, for excess sludge minimization. The reactor was intermittently fed with a synthetic wastewater having a COD concentration of approximately 300 mg/L and no SS. Results of the experiments showed that the F/M ratio in the reactor decreased to a minimum value of 0.02 g COD/g MLSS-day as the MLSS concentration increased to a maximum value of 31,010 mg/L. However, the measured endogenous decay coefficients and oxygen uptake rates of the MLSS confirmed that the activity of the MLSS decreased as the MLSS concentration increased. Based on the increase of MLSS in the reactor and the mass balance during the whole experimental period, the average microorganism yield coefficients were computed to be low values of 0.148 and 0.139 g MLSS/g COD, respectively. These results indicate that the nonwoven fabric filter bioreactor employed in this research is effective for minimization of excess sludge production.

An Improved Structural Reliability Analysis using Moving Least Squares Approximation (이동최소제곱근사법을 이용한 개선된 구조 신뢰성 해석)

  • The response surface method (RSM) is widely adopted for the structural reliability analysis because of its numerical efficiency. However, the RSM is still time consuming for large-scale applications and sometimes shows large errors in the calculation of sensitivity of reliability index with respect to random variables. Therefore, this study proposes a new RSM in which moving least squares (MLS) approximation is applied. Least squares approximation generally used in the common RSM gives equal weight to the coefficients of the response surface function (RSF). On the other hand, The MLS approximation gives higher weight to the experimental points closer to the design point, which yields the RSF more similar to the limit state at the design point. In the procedure of the proposed method, a linear RSF is constructed initially and then a quadratic RSF is formed using the axial experimental points selected from the reduced region where the design point is likely to exist. The RSF is updated successively by adding one more experimental point to the previously sampled experimental points. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, mathematical problems and ten-bar truss are considered as numerical examples. As a result, the proposed method shows better accuracy and computational efficiency than the common RSM.

  • The US Food and Drug Administration(FDA) recommends that population bioequivalence and individual bioequivalence would be assessed to address the prescribability and switchability between a brand-name drug and its new formulation or generic copy in its 2001 guidance document. The test for population bioequivalence in the latest FDA guidance is recommended in 2 x 4 crossover design, but it turns out to be very conservative. Recently Lee, Shao & Chow(2002), Chow, Shao & Wang(2003) and McNally, Iyer & Mathew(2002) proposed new statistical methods for assessing population bioequivalence between drugs to correct the biasness of current FDA method. Since 2 x 2 crossover experiment is most welcomed design in bioequivalence testing, we adopt their methods to 2 x 2 crossover designs and compare their methodologies with FDA one through the simulation study.

Variation of probability of sonar detection by internal waves in the South Western Sea of Jeju Island (제주 서남부해역에서 내부파에 의한 소나 탐지확률 변화)

  • Based on the measured data in the south western sea of Jeju Island during the SAVEX15(Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015), the effect of internal waves on the PPD (Predictive Probability of Detection) of a sonar system was analyzed. The southern west sea of Jeju Island has complex flows due to internal waves and USC (Underwater Sound Channel). In this paper, sonar performance is predicted by probabilistic approach. The LFM (Linear Frequency Modulation) and MLS (Maximum Length Sequence) signals of 11 kHz - 31 kHz band of SAVEX15 data were processed to calculate the TL (Transmission Loss) and NL (Noise Level) at a distance of approximately 2.8 km from the source and the receiver. The PDF (Probability Density Function) of TL and NL is convoluted to obtain the PDF of the SE (Signal Excess) and the PPD according to the depth of the source and receiver is calculated. Analysis of the changes in the PPD over time when there are internal waves such as soliton packet and internal tide has confirmed that the PPD value is affected by different aspects.

To maintain the high MLSS concentration, anaerobic sludge was transformed to granular sluge by adding both high molecular cationic polymer(M.W>5,000,000) and silica sol. Hydrogen production was easily distributed, which seemed caused by methane producing microbial. Even low pH control(pH<5.5) was not the effective mean to block methane producing microbial. To decrease of $H_2$ production was closely related with the inclose of $CH_4$ production. Other mean expect for pH control must be devised for the efficient $H_2$ production.

  • In this paper, a novel technique is proposed to arbitrarily activate the nodal points in finite element model through the meshless approximation methods such as MLS(moving least squares method), and theoretical investigations are carried out including the consistency and boundeness of numerical solution to prove the validity of the proposed method. By using the proposed node activation technique, one can activate and handle only the concerned nodes as unknown variables among the large number of nodal points in the finite element model. Therefore, the proposed technique has a great potential in design and reanalysis procedure.

  • 종이 펄프 공장의 폐수는 다른 공업에 비해서 폐수량이 많고 오염도가 높다. 목재로부터 종이를 제조하는 경우에 수율은 종이의 종류와 제법에 의해 큰 차이가 있어서 한마디로 말하기는 어렵지만 평균 50~70%로 보는 경우, 목재 성분의 30~50%는 용해 또는 SS의 상태로 폐수중에 존재하기 때문에, 이들이 직접 하천이나 바다에 방류되면 오염의 원인이 된다. 그 때문에 각 공장에서는 목재자원의 종합적인 이용의 입장으로서 제품의 수율을 좋게 하고 동시에 폐수의 양을 감소시키고 폐수에서 유용한 자원을 회수하거나 증해약품의 회수 등을 위하여 연구 및 노력을 계속하고 있는 것이 현 상태이다. 우리 나라의 거의 모든 제지회사에서는 물리적, 화학적 처리법과 생물학적 처리법 중 호기성 처리방법이 주 처리방법으로 사용되고 있으며 탈묵 폐수나 리그닌을 다량 함유하는 폐수의 경우에는 혐기성 처리방법을 이용하기도 한다. 본 실험에서는 우유팩을 재생하여 화장지 제조의 원료로 이용하는 G제지공장의 폐수를 이용하였고, 공장의 원폐수를 부상법으로 1차 처리한 처리수를 실험실로 운반하여 활성슬러지법으로 실험하였다. 처리효율의 영향인자인 HRT를 G제지공장에 맞추어 12시간으로 조정하고 적절한 F/M비(0.23)를 위해 COD와 MLSS가 유지된 후부터 실험을 시작했다. $20^{\circ}C{\sim}560^{\circ}C$까지 $10^{\circ}C$간격으로 온도를 변화시키면서 미생물의 상태변화를 관찰하고, 또한 각 용도에서의 처리수질을 비교해 보았다. 실험조건은 pH는 중성상태(6.5~7.5), DO는 $2{\sim}4mg/{\ell}$, 영양원은 BOD : N : P = 100 : 5 : 1로 맞추고 BOD, COD, SS, SVI를 측정하였으며, 현미경을 통하여 미생물과 Floc를 관찰하였다. $20^{\circ}C$부터 종균제를 초기 운전시 $200mg/{\ell}$ (분말상)을 폭기조에 투여하고 매일 $200mg/{\ell}$를 정기적으로 투입하여 온도변화에 따른 미생물의 상태 및 처리수질을 비교해보았다. 특히 종균제로는 기존의 G제G지공장에서 사용하는 신일 미생물(Bio sound S)종균제와 청림C&C의 종균제(Cell bio P)를 비교 관찰하였다. 고온성 종균제를 두배 투입하여 투입량에 대한 처리효율을 비교하였으며 종균제를 사용하지 않고 운용함으로써 그 차이도 비교할 수 있었다.

GPU-accelerated Global Illumination for Point Set Rendering (GPU 가속을 이용한 점집합 렌더링을 위한 전역 조명기법)

  • In the process of visualizing a point set representing a smooth manifold surface, global illumination techniques can be used to render a realistic scene with various effects of lighting. Thanks to the continuous demand for ray tracing and the development of graphics hardware, dedicated GPUs and programmable pipeline for ray tracing have been introduced in recent years. In this paper, real-time global illumination rendering is studied for a point-set model using ray-tracing GPUs. We apply the moving least-squares (MLS) method to approximate the point set to a smooth implicit surface and render it using global illumination by performing massive ray-intersection tests with the surface and generating shading effects at the intersection point. As a result, a complicated point-set scene consisting of more than 0.5M points can be generated in real-time.

  • Recent development of electronic commerce enables the use of Electronic Stock Trading Systems(ESTS) to be expanded. In ESTS, information with various sensitivity levels is shared by multiple users with mutually different clearance levels. Therefore, it is necessary to use Multilevel Secure Database Management Systems(MLS/DBMSs) in controlling concurrent execution among multiple transactions. In ESTS, not only analytical OLAP transactions, but also mission critical OLTP transactions are executed concurrently, which causes it difficult to adapt traditional secure transaction management schemes to ESTS environments. In this paper, we propose Secure One Snapshot(SOS) protocol that is devised for Secure Transaction Management in ESTS. By maintaining additional one snapshot as well as working database SOS blocks covert-channel efficiently, enables various real-time transaction management schemes to be adapted with ease, and reduces the length of waiting queue being managed to maintain freshness of data by utilizing the characteristics of less strict correctness criteria. In this paper, we introduce the process of SOS protocol with some examples, and then analyze correctness of devised protocol.
