This study assessed diversity in MIS research by examining 357 articles published in Journal of MIS Research from 1991 to 2003. The classification system developed by Vessey et al.(2002) was employed to examine research diversity of the articles. The classification system comprises four key characteristics of diversity such as research topic, research method, level of analysis, and reference discipline. The results of our study were also compared with Vessey et al,(2002)'s results to address problems in current MIS research and to suggest some recommendations for the future MIS research in Korea.

Thie study examines MIS researchers, research themes, methodology, and intellectual structure in order to analyze general research patterns in the field of MIS. The methods used for this study are subject analysis of the journal articles, citation analysis, and author co-citation analysis, The source articles are all the papers in $\lceil$Journal of Korean MIS Society$\rfloor$ and MIS papers in $\lceil$Korean Management Review$\rfloor$ and $\lceil$Journal of Korean MS/OR Society$\rfloor$. In results, core journals in MIS are MIS Quarterly, Management Science, and Communications of ACM. Core authors inlcude Ives, DeSanctis, Ginzberg, Lucas, Rockart, and Davis. The major areas in Korean MIS research turn out to be information system management, DSS/GDSS strategic information systems and AI applications.

In spite of user's participation affecting the success of the MIS project, many empirical studies, however have led to inconsistent results. This research was conducted to find the factors affecting user's participation, and the relationships between user's participation and MIS performance. To identify these problems, 43 systems operated with MIS among industries were surveyed based upon questionnaires and the personal interviews. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, the main factors affecting the user's participation out to be the MIS manager's attitude, the user manager's expectation, the MIS education and the character of user's task among 28 factors and these factors are different from stage to stage in MIS development. Second, each MIS development stage shows the different relationship between user's participation and MIS performance.

The use of statistical methods in the MIS research is increasing. However, there has been a meager attempt to critically evaluate the use statistical methods in MIS research papers. The review of 33G papers published in MIS Quarterly from Volume 1 to 14 resulted in three findings; (1) the portion of empirical research has been gradually increasing compared with non-empirical research, (2) univariate parametric statistical methods are most popular among MIS researchers, (3) researchers do not comply with the writing code of scientific research. This paper disscusses what errors MIS researchers might commit in using statistical research methods and how to prevent those errors in each of three stages of research, research design phase, statistical inference phase, and interpretation phase.

항만운영전산망(PortMIS)은 항만 내 선박 입출항, 투묘, 양묘, 이동 등 모든 항만운영관련 사항들이 포함된 정보망이다. 하지만 아직까지 VTS등에서 PortMIS 통계자료 활용이 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 발표는 PortMIS 통계현황을 분석하고, PortMIS 관제대장 분석을 통해 해상교통안전분야에 활용 가능한 통계분석방법에 대해 제안하고자 한다. 관제대장을 활용하여 제안되는 기능은 시간별, 선박별, 항로 통항량 산출 및 예측기능이다.

This paper investigated the MIS curriculum of fifteen four-year universities in South Korea. The data for analyses was collected from the university catalogues, questionnaire, and telephone interviews. Based on the data collected, this paper reported the current status of domestic MIS departments and analyzd the curriculum using the conceptual framework. The research results were discussed in terms of three issues : (1) the operations of MIS curriculum, (2) the sequences of selected MIS courses, (3) the course titles. This papers finally discussed the limitations of the current study and the future research directions.

Purpose Recently, much attention in building smart factory has dramatically increased with an emergence of the Industry 4.0. As we noted a connectivity gap between main concerns of MIS and the automated manufacturing systems such as POP and MES, it is recommended that CPS (Cyber-Physical System) can be an important building block for the smart factory and enrich the depth of MIS knowledge. Therefore, first, this study attempted to identify the connectivity gap between the traditional field of MIS (ERP, SCM, CRM, etc.) and the automated manufacturing systems, and then recommended CPS as a technical bridge to fill the gap. Secondly, we studied concepts and research trend of CPS that is believed to be a virtual mechanism to manage manufacturing systems in an integrated manner. Finally, we suggested research and educational opportunities in MIS based on the CPS perspectives. Design/methodology/approach Since this paper introduced relatively new idea of CPS originally discussed in the field of engineering, traditional MIS research method such as survey and experiment may not fit well. Therefore this research collected technical cases through literature survey in engineering fields, video clips from Youtube, and field references from various ICT Exhibitions and Conventions. Then we analyzed and reorganized them to highlight the necessity of CPS and draw some insight to share with MIS academia. Findings This paper introduced CPS to bridge the connectivity gap between the traditional MIS and automated manufacturing system (smart factory), a concern far away from the MIS academia. Further, this paper suggested future research subjects of MIS such as developing software to share big production data and systems to support manufacturing decisions, and innovating MIS curricula including smart and intelligent manufacturing technology within the context of traditional enterprise systems.

Despite the recent phenomenal growth in computer installations in business and increasing interests in Management Information Systems in Korea, there are basic questions remained: how are the computers utilized, what is the current state of MIS, and what are the strategies which will enhance the current state of MIS in Korea？ The purpose of this paper is to answer these questions. To begin, the current state of MIS is investigated from the aspects of MIS budget, manpower, hardware, and various softwares based on the survey of 30 major industries. The results show that the overall MIS in Korea is still remained in the primitive stage despite its ultra modern computer hardwares. The obstacles that hinders the MIS evolution in Korea seems intractable for quite a long period of time. Some strategies are suggested which can partially remove two big obstacles-shortage in qualified manpower and lack of softwares that fit Korean industries.

Based on the literatures about MIS published in Mainland China and foreign journals from 2002 to 2007, this paper compares and analyzes the various research topics, research methods and the distribution of publication in MIS research. It brings forward three aspects of differences between the domestic and foreign MIS research and gives some suggestions to advance domestic research.
