Purpose The purpose of this study is to understand the current status of MIS curriculum and to find ways to improve it. In addition, the results of the research can be used as basic data for improving MIS curriculum. Design/methodology/approach A research framework was designed to derive research results using the keyword network analysis method of this study: 1) Keywords were extracted based on the six units of the big data analysis job competency. 2) And based on the extracted keywords, the relationship between the keywords and MIS curriculum for each university was identified. Findings In the MIS curriculum information of a few universities, education related to big data analysis was conducted. 1) In the MIS curriculum of a few universities, education related to big data analysis was conducted. However, MIS curriculum of the university, which is the subject of analysis, education focused on concepts and theory rather than practical education was conducted. 2) And it was confirmed that there is a difference from the education required by the industry.

This paper investigated the MIS curriculum of fifteen four-year universities in South Korea. The data for analyses was collected from the university catalogues, questionnaire, and telephone interviews. Based on the data collected, this paper reported the current status of domestic MIS departments and analyzd the curriculum using the conceptual framework. The research results were discussed in terms of three issues : (1) the operations of MIS curriculum, (2) the sequences of selected MIS courses, (3) the course titles. This papers finally discussed the limitations of the current study and the future research directions.

The purpose of this study is to examine the direction of the students' satisfaction improvement by comparison of related disciplines of undergraduate management information systems (MIS) majors. MIS is one of the academic disciplines that have become important as the demand for manpower for new industries in the 4th industrial revolution. We surveyed 3rd and 4th grade undergraduate students in the departments of management information systems, business administration (BA), computer engineering (CE) of C university. The results revealed that the students' satisfaction was influenced by the ability of the professor, the curriculum development, and the curriculum operation factors. Especially, it was found that the curriculum operating factors among the three departments had greater effect on the students' satisfaction. If the education environment is improved considering curriculum operating factors and the administrative and service factors and that are important in the CE departments, it will be helpful for the students' satisfaction improvement of MIS.

In the rapidly changing field of Management Information Systems, the definition and educational programs must be continually reevaluated and revised. A study was conducted to find a way to which the modeling principle is applied for redefining the identity of Management Information Systems as an independent academic field and to develop a plausible MIS curriculum based on the modeling principle. Previous researches on the MIS frameworks, knowledge and technology requirements for IS professionals, and standard MIS curriculums were reviewed thoroughly. For this study, the Kantian cognitive model was adopted as a basis of modeling principle. The result shows that modeling ability has been the core competence of IS people in the field of MIS. The applicability of a modeling principle is also verified in establishing the identity of MIS and developing a normative MIS curriculum. For the MIS field to thrive as an independent academic field and research discipline, it is believed to be imperative for the discipline to have a unique educational goals distinguished from both other management areas, and sub-fields of computer science.

본 연구는 국내 4년제 대학 MIS 교육과정을 실무자 관점에서 평가하고, IS 인력의 업무내용과 수행비중, 그리고 그에 요구되는 핵심 직무 역량을 현업 부서원들과 IS 전문가 관점에서 비교 분석함으로써 4년제 대학 및 IT 전문기관의 교육 프로그램 방향과 교수법에 관해 논의하고자 하는 것이다. 실무자들의 인식에 따르면 향후 NIS 전공자에게 가장 적합한 직무는 IS 기획 및 전략 수립, 어플리케이션 시스템 개발, IT 컨설팅 등으로 나타났고, IS 전문가에게 요구되는 핵심 직무 기술로는 인간관계 기술군이 가장 중요한 것으로 인식되었으며, 경영활동의 흐름과 프로세스에 대한 이해, 경영기능에 대한 지식, 그리고 최신 IT에 대한 지식과 평가 능력, IT 요소기술군 순으로 나타났다.

MIS 전공은 전 세계적으로 전공자 감소와 정체성에 대한 논의로 위기를 맞고 있다. 그러나 오늘날 기업에서의 IS 역할은 더욱 중요하며, 역량있는 IS 인력은 기업과 국가 경쟁력의 원천이다. 본 연구는 IS 인력을 양성하는 대학이 수요지향적인 IS 역량을 가진 인력을 배출할 수 있는 내용에 대하여 제안하고자 관련 선행연구, 북미 표준교육과정인 IS 2010, MSIS 2006, 국내 IT 인력 양성사업의 현황, 그리고 국내 SI 기업들의 인력양성 현황 등을 다양하게 살펴보았다. 향후 요구되는 IS 핵심역량에 기초한 미래지향적인 주요 교과목들은 ITA/EA, IT 거버넌스, IS 컨설팅, IS 전략과 정책, 시스템 분석 및 설계, DW/DM, BI, 최신 IT 기술, Packaged Solution 관련 과목, IT 감리/평가/보안 관련 과목, 프로젝트 관리, IT 서비스 관리 등이며, 비즈니스와 시스템에 대한 통합적 시각을 갖출 수 있는 캡스톤 과목의 신설이 요구된다. 또한 논리적, 분석적 사고, 문제 해결력, 커뮤니케이셔 등의 소프트 스킬을 개발할 수 있는 과목과 효과적인 교수법이 요구되며, 인턴십, 멘토링 프로그램 위한 산학협력의 중요성이 더욱 강조되었다.

최근 기업의 경영환경에 있어서 MIS의 역할이 심화됨에 따라 그 중요성이 더해지고 있다 그러나, MIS 영역이 Micro Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science 등 다양한 학문으로부터 연유된 바 경영학의 줄기에서 정체성을 찾는데 어려움이 있고, MIS 커리큘럼을 구성함에 있어서도 다른 경영학 전공 영역과 구분을 짓기가 모호한 부분이 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 현장에서 IT 업무를 담당하는 실무자의 입장에서 현재 경영학과에서 제공하는 MIS 교과과정을 통하여 현장에 바로 활용이 가능한 IT 역량을 쌓는다는 것은 상당히 어려움이 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 IT 현장에서 필요로 하는 역량을 기초로 MIS 커리큘럼을 구성하기 위해 최근 3년간 시스템 통합 프로젝트의 유형 분석과 현장의 IT 업무를 담당하는 컨설턴트의 설문조사를 통해 얻은 IT 기술역량 분석, 그리고, Global S/W Vendor의 기술동향 분석, 최근 제시된 MIS 커리큘럼 현황 및 발전모델(이국희 et al., 2007)을 참조하여 시장지향적인 MIS 커리큘럼 수립을 위한 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 연구결과 기업의 시스템 통합은 Application S/W의 발전 및 Package화를 통해 ERP, CRM, SCM, BI 등의 솔루션 전문가를 중심으로 사업이 구성되고 있다. 또한, S/W Vendor 역시 인수합병을 통해 대형화되고 완성도가 높아짐에 따라, 기업 현장의 IT 인력도 이러한 Packaged S/W Application의 역량을 보유한 솔루션 전문 컨설턴트를 필요로 하고 있음을 알 수 있게 되었다. 따라서 이를 충족할 인재양성을 위한 커리큘럼의 변화방향을 결론적으로 제시하였다.

본 연구의 주제는 MIS 커리큠럼의 현재와 미래이다. 국내외 주요 대학교의 MIS 커리큠럼 현황을 조사하고, 학계와 산업계의 새로운 요구사항을 분석하며, 이 격과를 토대로 정보기술 발전과 비즈니스 수요 변화에 대응할 수 있는 미래의 MIS 커리큘럼 발전모델을 제시한다. 연구 수행 1단계에서는 MIS 커리큘럼 체계를 파악하기 위하여 기존에 존재하고 있는 커리큘럼 모델인 MSIS 2000, IS 2002, Computing Curricular 2005를 분석하였다. 그리고 실제 상황을 조사하기 위하여 국내외 주요 대학교의 MIS프로그램에서 개설하는 약 800개 과목 데이터를 수집하였으며, 3개 영역, 14개 주제 분야, 49개 단위과목으로 분류하였다. 2단계에서는 현재 개설 과목의 중도와 향후 개설할 필요가 있는 새로운 MIS 과목에 대한 수요를 학계 및 산업계 종사자를 대상으로 분석하였다. MIS 전문가가 갖추어야 할 지식기술은 전통적인 정보시스템 기획/개발/운영 외에도 정보기술 인프라 관리, 비즈니스 문제해결 능력, 비즈니스 혁신 역량이 강조되고 있었다. 3단계에서는 기존 과목의 중요성 및 신규 과목 수요를 토대로 MIS 커리큘럼 발전모델을 제안하였다 발전모델은 크게 5개 커리어 트랙으로 구성된다. (1) IS Development 트랙, (2) IT Management 트랙, (3) Business Application Systems 트랙, (4) Digital Business 트랙, (5) Business Innovation 트랙. 본 연구에서 제시하는 발전모델은 MIS 전공의 정체성을정립하고, 커리큘럼의 유연성을 확보하는데 주안점을 두었다.

Purpose To meet changing social demands and fulfill the needs of the information and communications technology industry, the curriculum of MIS related department should develop and implement new conceptual frameworks. In response, the purpose of this study was to develop curriculum for students in the Department of e-Business at Kyungnam University. Design/methodology/approach We conducted a demands analysis of educational demanders, NCS(National Competency Standards) based curricular analysis, and benchmarking from other management information systems related departments. The expert panel committee consisting of e-Business department faculty members was held to examine and discuss the student-oriented curriculum developed during this study. Findings Results show that the contents and types of curriculum should be organized so that students can maximize their professional job competency to apply to their core professional tasks. Given these findings, we reconstructed the curriculum with both basic and advanced courses, all systematically organized according to the job requirements they offer toward meeting the industry's needs. We also implemented the web-based JSSS(Job Searching Support System) with which educational demanders can search among 13 job types, estimate their performances, and obtain the information about course registration. In all this study presents specific, practical evidence of the job-related curriculum for students in the Department of e-Business at Kyungnam University.
