A Comparative Study on Mis Research at Mainland China and Abroad (2002~2007)

  • Based on the literatures about MIS published in Mainland China and foreign journals from 2002 to 2007, this paper compares and analyzes the various research topics, research methods and the distribution of publication in MIS research. It brings forward three aspects of differences between the domestic and foreign MIS research and gives some suggestions to advance domestic research.

  • 본 연구는 국내 대학 및 소속을 두고 있는 한국 IS 연구자의 연구실적을 측정하였다. 본 연구자들은 선행연구에 기반해 MIS Quarterly(MISQ), Information Systems Research(ISR), Journal of Management Information Systems(JMlS), Journal of the Association for Information Systems(JAIS), European Journal of Information Systems(EJIS), Information Systems Journal(ISJ), Decision Support Systems(DSS), Communications of the Association for Information Systems(CAIS), Information and Management(I&M), Journal of Strategy Information Systems(JSlS), Journal of Information Technology(JIT) 11 개 선도 저널을 선정하였고, 2007년부터 2009년까지 출판된 한국 IS 연구자의 논문을 싸이언토메트릭 기법을 통해 측정하였다. 본 연구결과는 한국 IS 연구자의 우수한 연구실적에 대한 정보를 제공함으로써 우수 연구자의 파악 및 채용 정보 획득에 도움을 줄 것이고, 더불어 신입생 유치에 있어 학교와 학과의 우수성을 홍보하는데 자료를 제공해 줄 것이다. 본 연구는 한국 IS 연구자의 연구실적 측정에 대한 연구가 드믄 실정에서 연구의 독창성이 존재하며, 한국 IS 연구자의 논문 출판 추세를 이해하는데 도움을 제공할 것이다.

MIS 교육과정 개선을 위한 실무자들의 인식 조사 연구: 정보시스템 전문가의 핵심 직무역량 중심으로 (Perception of Practitioners for MIS Curriculum, Development: Focused on the IS Professional's Core Competencies)

  • 본 연구는 국내 4년제 대학 MIS 교육과정을 실무자 관점에서 평가하고, IS 인력의 업무내용과 수행비중, 그리고 그에 요구되는 핵심 직무 역량을 현업 부서원들과 IS 전문가 관점에서 비교 분석함으로써 4년제 대학 및 IT 전문기관의 교육 프로그램 방향과 교수법에 관해 논의하고자 하는 것이다. 실무자들의 인식에 따르면 향후 NIS 전공자에게 가장 적합한 직무는 IS 기획 및 전략 수립, 어플리케이션 시스템 개발, IT 컨설팅 등으로 나타났고, IS 전문가에게 요구되는 핵심 직무 기술로는 인간관계 기술군이 가장 중요한 것으로 인식되었으며, 경영활동의 흐름과 프로세스에 대한 이해, 경영기능에 대한 지식, 그리고 최신 IT에 대한 지식과 평가 능력, IT 요소기술군 순으로 나타났다.

  • This Report aims at Development of field approached MIS curriculumn appropriate to specialty of junior college, based on the thoughts that it is necessary to set the skill and the conception rightly through the knowledge and the theory about the whole field of management, to provide a continous and consistant education, to produce MIS graduates required at enterprises. For that, considering function and roll of the junior college, curriculumns which have been opened and managed as a major study, the level of knowledge which is required to the men who is in charge of practical information business at demand site, subjects which is desirable to be a major study, the knowledge which is required to the MIS graduates in present and future, a condition of deucation investment.

우리 나라 중소기업 정보시스템의 성공요인에 대한 실증분석 (An Empirical Study of MIS CSF's for Small & Medium Business In Korea)

  • The purpose of this paper id to study the factors influencing MIS user satisfaction. For this purpose. I have reviewed the results of past studies on the performance factor of MIS, and introduced a new model associated with small & Medium Business. On the basis of this model, I have hypothesized that the following variables influence user satisfaction : (gender, age), individual characteristics(user attitude, training for user), managerial characteristic(top management involvement, organizational support) and task characteristics(task structure). There were 195 participants surveyed using questionnaires from 25 different small & medium Business in Pusan. The research model and associated hypotheses were tested by following statistical techniques: reliability test, regression, t-test and ANOVA. The findings of this study are follows; 1. It was found that gender and age are not correlated user satisfaction. 2. Among individual characteristics, only user attitude influence user satisfaction significantly. 3. While organizational supports influence positively user satisfaction, top management involvement do not influence it. 4. Task structure is highly correlated with user satisfaction. In spite of many factors affecting MIS success, this study did not consider all variables affect on user satisfaction. We need integrated model including more various factors.

우리나라의 MIS현황과 개발전략에 관한 연구 : MIS서베이 (A Study on the Strategies of MIS Development in Korea: MIS Survey)

  • Despite the recent phenomenal growth in computer installations in business and increasing interests in Management Information Systems in Korea, there are basic questions remained: how are the computers utilized, what is the current state of MIS, and what are the strategies which will enhance the current state of MIS in Korea? The purpose of this paper is to answer these questions. To begin, the current state of MIS is investigated from the aspects of MIS budget, manpower, hardware, and various softwares based on the survey of 30 major industries. The results show that the overall MIS in Korea is still remained in the primitive stage despite its ultra modern computer hardwares. The obstacles that hinders the MIS evolution in Korea seems intractable for quite a long period of time. Some strategies are suggested which can partially remove two big obstacles-shortage in qualified manpower and lack of softwares that fit Korean industries.

Factors Affecting Information Systems Modeling Ability

  • This study was initiated to investigate the essential skill factors for system designers in order to build the right information systems. The predicted variables are mathematical modeling skill, verbal modeling skill, general IT knowledge, and general business knowledge. The test was administrated to 43 students majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS) at Hannam University, South Korea. In this study, we used Pearson Correlation Analysis to test the relationships among variables. Overall, our study suggested that there is a strong positive relationship between mathematical and verbal skills and IS modeling ability. A marginal positive relationship between the general IT knowledge and IS modeling ability was also found. Unexpectedly, there was no significant relationship between general business knowledge and IS modeling ability.

  • This study assessed diversity in MIS research by examining 357 articles published in Journal of MIS Research from 1991 to 2003. The classification system developed by Vessey et al.(2002) was employed to examine research diversity of the articles. The classification system comprises four key characteristics of diversity such as research topic, research method, level of analysis, and reference discipline. The results of our study were also compared with Vessey et al,(2002)'s results to address problems in current MIS research and to suggest some recommendations for the future MIS research in Korea.

경영정보학의 학문적 위상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Scientific Status of MIS)

  • The inability of the management information systems (MIS) field to progress as a scientific discipline has been attributed to the lack of systematic research and a cumulative tradition, an identity crisis, and the poverty of scientism. While research on the status of MIS is very important in order to enhance the field as a scientific discipline, few have investigated this issue. Following Thomas Kuhn's idea of paradigm, this paper studies other fields to investigate when they progressed, when they did not, and why. After research paradigm was broken down into technology-push and demand-pull types, a model on the science life cycle was developed in an effort to explain the path how a science has progressed. A test of this model in the fields of physics and chemistry with an old historial background reveals that the scientific progress in the area of demand-pull is more desirable if this progress turns out to be in the right direction. An application of the model to the MIS field shows that the research paradigm in this field is mainly of technology-push. In order to shift this paradigm toward the demand-pull area, this paper suggests the research on the relationship among MIS subfields and the adoption of appropriate reference disciplines.
