This study was aimed to investigate the effects of layer-by-floor environmental conditions and lower shelf supplemental lighting on the productivity of fresh shoots when growing rosemary in multi-layer cultivation. The 10-cm cuttings from stock plants of common rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis) were planted in a 128-hole tray, rooted, and then transplanted into pots of 750, 1,300, and 2,000 mL. Afterwards, they were placed on multi-layer shelves (width × length × height: 149 × 60 × 57 cm, 3-layer) in a two-linked greenhouse and cultivated using the sub-irrigation. The productivity of young shoots by layer of the multi-layer shelf was the highest on the third floor (top floor), but productivity decreased sharply after September due to stem lignification caused by excessive light during the summer. Conversely, the lower two layers exhibited faster growth rate of young shoots until the late cultivation period, but the quality decreased due to stem softening and leaf epinasty. To address the excessive light problem on the third floor during the summer, shading was implemented at 30% opacity in July and August, resulting in a 210% increase in rosemary young shoots count and a 162% increase in fresh weight per unit area compared to the unshaded control. To improve the lighting deficiency on the lower layer, supplemental lighting with LED at 30 W increased rosemary young shoot harvest by 168% from June to September compared to no supplemental lighting, but it decreased productivity after September. Therefore, when growing rosemary in multi-layer, it is judged that intensive production of young shoots is possible if the third floor (top layer) is shaded with 30% of light from July to August to prevent stem lignification, and the lower layer is temporarily supplemented with LED 30 W from June to September to increase young shoot growth.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine which scan range would provide the most accurate bite registration when performing a bite scan after scanning an upper and lower arch using an intraoral scanner. Materials and Methods: The occlusal contact points were recorded using articulating paper for 30 adults, and the results of various ranges of buccal bite scan were compared based on this. Buccal bite scan of 5 ranges (1st premolar to 2nd premolar, 1st premolar to 1st molar, 1st premolar to 2nd molar, 2nd premolar to 1st molar, and canines to another side canine of the maxillary teeth) was performed, and then the buccal bite scan file was used in a CAD program to confirm the occlusal area in the scan file through data editing and alignment, leaving the buccal area of the teeth. Afterwards, the degree of agreement between the occlusal contact points obtained from the articulating paper and the occlusal area obtained from the scan file was compared, and statistical analysis was performed using the homoscedastic T-test (α = 0.05). Results: The alignment success and alignment failure rates among each group were 77.23% and 40.85% in canine to another side canine, 68.23% and 28.89% in bilateral first premolar to second premolar, 63.76% and 29.97% in bilateral first premolar to first molar, 61.31% and 32.04% in bilateral first premolar to second molar, 67.55% and 27.46% in second premolar to first molar. The results of the anterior scan of both canines showed higher alignment success and failure rates compared to the scan results of all maxillary posterior teeth. In the alignment success rate, statistical significance was not found depending on the scan range of the posterior teeth, but in comparing the results of the posterior teeth and both canines, statistical significance was observed except for the scan results of the second premolar to the first molar. There was no statistical significance in the alignment failure rate depending on the scan range of the posterior teeth, and statistical significance was observed in the results of the posterior teeth and both canines. Conclusion: When taking a buccal bite scan, in the case of scanning the anterior teeth, more occlusal area appear than when scanning the posterior teeth, and in the case of scanning the posterior teeth, there is no significant difference in the bite registration depending on the scan range.
Background: Research on the association between renal disease and periodontal conditions has yet to yield definitive results. In this study, we analyzed whether periodontal disease increases the risk of developing renal disease using Korean national cohort data over a period of 11 years. Methods: From 2002 to 2015, a retrospective follow-up investigation was conducted on the 203,538 Korean population using the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort. Periodontal disease and renal disease were identified through diagnoses using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes. The assessment of periodontal status involved considering the number of dental visits related to periodontal disease during the baseline 3-year period. Results: During the 11-year follow-up period, renal disease occurred in 19,868 out of the total 203,538 individuals. After adjusting for age, gender, income, smoking, drinking, physical activity, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, ischemic heart disease, and advanced periodontal treatment, periodontal disease increased the risk of renal disease occurrence by 1.04 times (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 1.04, 95% CI = 1.01 to 1.08). Additionally, a higher frequency of dental visits attributed to periodontal disease was associated with an increased risk of renal disease, exhibiting a dose-response trend (aHR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.00 to 1.06 for once; aHR = 1.08, 95% CI = 1.04 to 1.13 for two times; aHR = 1.11, 95% CI = 1.03 to 1.21 for three times). Conclusions: Our data confirmed that periodontal disease is associated witha higher incidence of renal disease.
The present study aimed to compare the accuracy of the compact dry and culture plate methods for natural flora (yeasts/molds, coliforms, and total bacterial count) and artificial inoculum (Escherichia coli) in dosirak (meat-based), meal kits (seafood-based), and Doenjang (traditional food). Compact dry TC, EC, CF, and YMR were compared with culture plate methods using a suitable medium for each bacterium. The total bacterial count, coliforms, yeasts/molds, and E. coli were assessed with 3M Petrifilm (aerobic bacterial, coliform, yeast/mold, and E. coli count plates) using culture plate methods. Analysis of the recovery rates of target microorganisms in the three food samples showed that the compact dry method for total bacteria, coliforms, and E. coli exhibited recovery capabilities equivalent to those of the culture plate and Petrifilm methods, with no significant differences (P>0.05). Overall, compact dry TC, CF, and EC showed a good correlation between the methods used in this study, indicating rapid and convenient microbial enumeration by saving time and requiring less space.
This study aimed to suggest the usability and optimal amount of Orostachys japonicas in foods. Orostachys japonicus powder was added at 0% (Con), 3% (O3), 5% (O5), 7% (O7), and 9% (O9) to rice muffins and the quality and antioxidant characteristics of the muffins were determined. The moisture content and pH of the muffins decreased as the amount of Orostachys japonicus powder added increased. The weight increased as the amount of Orostachys japonicas powder added increased, but the volume, specific volume, and baking loss rate decreased. The L-and b-values of the muffins decreased as the a-value increased. The texture, hardness, gumminess, and chewiness of muffins increased while adhesiveness, springiness, and cohesiveness decreased. Polyphenol, flavonoid, DPPH, and ABTS+ radical scavenging activity, as well as reducing power, increased as the amount of Orostachys japonicus powder added increased. In the sensory test, the 5-7% addition group showed high scores in appearance, flavor, taste, texture, and overall preference. The degree of flavor and astringency of muffins, which are evaluation items for characteristic strength, increased as the amount of Orostachys japonicus powder added increased, and the level of moistness decreased. Therefore, the addition of 5-7% of Orostachys japonicus powder is thought to have a positive effect on the muffins. The purpose of this study was to suggest the usability and optimal addition amount of Orostachys japonicus powder and to provide basic data on foods with Orostachys japonicus added.
The fresh water prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergi(de Man) is a very common species in Indopacific region, which inhaits both fresh and brackish water in low land area, most of rivers and especially aboundant in the lower reaches which are influenced by sea water. It is one of the largest and commercial species of genus Macrobrachium, which is commonly larger than
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70
