  • This work is a report about the first record of alcid species, Thick-billed Murre (Uria lomvia) in Korea. Four individuals of Thick-billed Murre captured by crab net were obtained in Deajin Port and near the Munam Port. three individuals of Thick-billed Murre searching food were observed at an area two miles away from Munam-Port. We describe characters of Thick-billed Murre with illustrations.

Accelerated reasoning method for fuzzy control (퍼지제어를 위한 가속화 추론 방법)

  • A fuzzy reasoning method is proposed for the implementation of control systems based on non-fuzzy microprocessors. The essence of the proposed method is to search the local active miles instead of the global rule base. Thus the reasoning is conveniently performed on a master cell as a fuzzy accelerating kernel, which is transformed from an active fuzzy cell. The interpolative reasoning is simplified via adopting the algebraic product of fulfillment for the conditional connective AND and the weighted average for the rule sentence connective ALSO.

  • This paper proposes position estimation and path-tracking of a wheeled-mobile robot(WMR). Odometry and two distance measuring sensors are used to measure distance between guide wall and body and to locate its own position. And extended Kalman filter is introduced to fusion sensors and reduce noise. State feedback controller using the estimated position and path-tracking miles guidance control system. The computer simulation shows that proposed algorithm is well coincide with theoretical approach.

  • To improve SAR capabilities in Korea, marine casualties during 5 years(1995-1999) were analyzed and drifting experiment of G/T 50 ton class vessel was carried out off Pusan harbor. As a result, it was found that the occurrence of casualty by fishing boat ranked highest and a considerable numbers of casualties took place more than 20 miles off the shore, and leeway was computed by two drifting experiments as 0.045U - 010 $^{\circ}$, 0.037U+ 021 $^{\circ}$ respectively.

  • This work discusses simulation results for the fuzzy logic controller tested the project“Fuzzy Ramp Metering Algorithm Implementation.”The performance objectives were, in order of priority, to maximize total vehicle-miles, maximize mainline speeds, and minimize delay per vehicle while maintaining an acceptable ramp queue. In the fuzzy logic controller, the sensors from the on-ramps were helpful in maintaining reasonable ramp queue and mainline congestion because it considered these factors simultaneously. Each metered ramp had a parameter input file, which allowed the controller to be modified without recompiling the software. Consequently, maintenance costs should be minimal.

  • Acidic degreasing agent(ADA) was prepared by blending n-octanoic acid, MJU-100A, Tetronix T-701, POE(6)-2-ethylhexyl ether, Newpol PE-68, sorbitol, and phosphoric acid. The physical properties of ADA tested with aluminum specimen showed the following results; when 3wt% ADA-5 was performed at $70^{\circ}C$, the degreasing rate was 98% which is comparitively good, and the percentage of etching was 0.277% which was found to be less than that of commercialized product. When 20wt% of ADA-5 was added at $65^{\circ}C$, the percentage of derusting was 93% and the good defoaming effect proved by following low foaming power tests respectively : Ross and Miles, and Ross and Clark methods.

A study on installation location of radar for minimizing blind area in the construction of VTS system of Kangjeong Port (강정항 VTS 시스템 구축시 음영구역 최소화를 위한 레이더의 위치설정에 관한 연구)

  • We have studied the efficient operation of the radar and the appropriateness of the installation location, when constructing the VTS system. As the Civil-Military Complex Harbour (Kangjeong Port) is completed in 2016, we set the control area within 10 nautical miles centering on Kangjeong Port, and found out and removed the operational radar blind area of VTS system to provide safe navigation information for vessels that navigating this area. Assuming that two international cruise ships entering at the same time, we performed the radar simulation and compared the images by considering the three sites of Kangjeong Port, Miaksan and Seoguipo Port. Simulation results for a single radar installed at Kangjung Port indicate that the blind area was largely affected by two large cruise ships and the surrounding islands. The blind area due to Kogunsan was considerably large when installed in Miaksan, but the blind area due to the influences of Beomseom, Moonseom and Seopseom was negligibly large. It seems that additional radar installation is necessary as a complementary solution to solve this blind area. When two radars were installed at Miaksan and Kangjeong Port, the residual blind area due to the Seopseom was $0.25km^2$ at 0.1~0.33 nautical miles in the southeast direction from Seopseom. In addition, the remaining blind area with two cruise ships mutually influenced was $0.18km^2$, which did not occur with a single cruise ship.

Development of a Video Caption Recognition System for Sport Event Broadcasting (스포츠 중계를 위한 자막 인식 시스템 개발)

  • A video caption recognition system has been developed for broadcasting sport events such as major league baseball. The purpose of the system is to translate the information expressed in English units such as miles per hour (MPH) to the international system of units (SI) such as km/h. The system detects the ball speed displayed in the video and recognizes the numerals. The ball speed is then converted to km/h and displayed by the following character generator (CG) system. Although neural-network based methods are widely used for character and numeral recognition, we use template matching to avoid the training process required before the broadcasting. With the proposed template matching method, the operator can cope with the situation when the caption’s appearance changed without any notification. Templates are configured by the operator with a captured screenshot of the first pitch with ball speed. Templates are updated with following correct recognition results. The accuracy of the recognition module is over 97%, which is still not enough for live broadcasting. When the recognition confidence is low, the system asks the operator for the correct recognition result. The operator chooses the right one using hot keys.

  • Visual effect production by computer graphics techniques has become more important in these days. However, there are three problems in the domestic contents production environments. First of all, most Korean film companies have insufficient generally potential to maintain and support their R&D (Research and Development) teams. Secondly, they are much dependent on the abroad commercial software tools. Finally, many people have to participate in the image production pipeline, called the labor-intensive pipeline. In producing a demonstration work, "The Sixty -miles-an-hour man", we have evaluated the usefulness of the developed camera tracking and image composition methods and then examined various production consideration elements. In addition, in order to develop a productive technical element and write a competitive film script, mutual understanding between the developers and the production users should be achieved. Also, this paper describes a role of the technical supervisor to direct the production environment in detail.
