  • Ogi production results in nutrient loss. B. aegyptiaca seeds, rich in biomaterials, could enhance ogi's nutritional potential. This study aimed to fortify ogi with bioactives from B. aegyptiaca seeds, targeting a 16% protein inclusion, compared to ogi flour as control. Mineral profiles were analyzed, showing higher levels in the fortified samples, particularly in DAM-ogi and PP-ogi, which are implicated in diabetes control. Pasting profiles indicated higher values in PP-ogi, suggesting improved rheological properties due to B. aegyptiaca bioactives.

  • We propose a novel method for the registration of 3D CT scans to 2D endoscopic images during the image-guided medialization laryngoplasty. This study aims to allow the surgeon to find the precise configuration of the implant and place it into the desired location by employing accurate registration methods of the 3D CT data to intra-operative patient and interactive visualization tools for the registered images. In this study, the proposed registration methods enable the surgeon to compare the outcome of the procedure to the pre-planned shape by matching the vocal folds in the CT rendered images to the endoscopic images. The 3D image fusion provides an interactive and intuitive guidance for surgeon by visualizing a combined and correlated relationship of the multiple imaging modalities. The 3D Magic Lens helps to effectively visualize laryngeal anatomical structures by applying different transparencies and transfer functions to the region of interest. The preliminary results of the study demonstrated that the proposed method can be readily extended for image-guided surgery of real patients.

  • Uncertainty analysis on the net flow discharge (NFD) influencing the long-term material transport and the simulation results of the salinity and COD concentration distribution using the MIKE21 diffusion model in Gyeonggi bay and Han-River estuary is carried out. The NFD flowing the Gyodongdo - Seokmodo channel via the North channel of Ganghwado is estimated about 97% of the total NFD and the NFD of the Yeomha channel is estimated as only $2.5{\sim}3.0%$. On the other hand, the uncertainty defined as the difference by the different time-scale data input is analysed by the comparison of the model simulation result of the salinity and COD concentration distribution. One is computed based on the daily river flow data, and the other is computed based on the monthlymean river flow data. The results show that the salinity and COD concentration differences are about -10~20 psu and ${\pm}1.0\;mg/L$ during the summer season having a high flow discharge in Yeomha channel, respectively. The difference is clearly negligible in the open sea area.

  • Fumonisins are a group of mycotoxins produced by a pathogen Fusarium verticillioides in infected maize kernels. Consumption of fumonisin-contaminated maize has been implicated in a number of animal and human illnesses, including esophageal cancer and neural tube defects. Since the initial discovery, chemistry, toxicology, and biology of fumonisins as well as the maize-Fusarium pathosystem have been extensively studied. Furthermore, in the past decade, significant progress has been made in terms of understanding the molecular biology of toxin biosynthetic genes. However, there is a critical gap in our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms involved in fumonisin biosynthesis. Here, we review and discuss our current knowledge about the molecular mechanisms by which fumonisin biosynthesis is regulated in F. verticillioides. In addition, we discuss the impact of maize kernel environment, particularly sugar and lipid molecules, on fumonisin biosynthesis.

  • The ability of remote sensing and GIS technique, which used to provide valuable informations in the time and space domain, has been known to be very useful in providing permanent records by mapping and monitoring flooded area. In 2000, floods were at the worst stage of devastation in Tonle Sap Lake, Mekong River Basin, for the second time in records during July and October. In this study, Landsat ETM+ and RADARSAT imagery were used to obtain the basic information on computation of the inundation area and volume using ISODATA classifier and segmentation technique. However, the extracted inundatton area showed only a small fraction than the actually inundated area because of clouds in the imagery and complex ground conditions. To overcome these limitations, the cost-distance method of GIS was used to estimate the inundated area at the peak level by integrating the inundated area from satellite imagery in corporation with digital elevation model (DEM). The estimated inundation area was simply converted with the inundation volume using GIS. The inundation volume was compared with the volume based on hydraulic modeling with MIKE 11. which is the most poppular among the dynamic river modeling system. The method is suitable for estimating inundation volume even when Landsat ETM+ has many clouds in the imagery.

  • In this paper, we develop the image transfer remote maintenance monitoring system for hand held device which can compensate defects of human mistake. The human mistakes always happen when the worker communicate information each other to check and maintenance the equipment of the power plant under bad circumstance such as small place and long distance in power plant. A worker couldn't converse with other when in noisy place like Power plant. So, we make some hand device for handy size and able to converse in noisy place. The developed system can have improvement of productivity through increasing plant operation time. And developed system is composed of advanced H/W(hard ware) system and S/W(soft ware)system. The H/W system consist of media server unit, communication equipment with hand held device, portable camera, mike and head set. The advanced s/w system consist of data base system, client pc(personal computer) real time monitoring system which has server GUI(graphic user interface) program, wireless monitoring program and wire ethernet communication program. The client GUI program is composed of total solution program as pc camera program, and phonetic conversation program etc.. We analyzed the required items and investigated applicable part in the image transfer remote maintenance monitoring system with hand held device. Also we investigated linkage of communication protocol for developed prototype, developed software tool of two-way communication and realtime recording skill of voice with image. We confirmed the efficiency by the field test in preventive maintenance of plant power.

  • The ignitability(minimum ignition energy, MIE) of a suspended dust clouds is very important aspect of technical safety indices. This paper reported the experimental results dealing with the influence of discharge circuit on the MIE of a suspended dust clouds. The movement of a suspended dust clouds was also observed with the high speed camera. The Hartmann vertical-tube apparatus(MIKE-3) described in the international standard of IEC and Polypropylene (PP, 50% volume-average, D50: $761{\mu}m$) resin powders were used in this experiment. The following results were obtained: (1) the MIE of a suspended PP powder depended markedly on the discharge circuit; in other words, when a resistor was connected in series with the discharge sparking circuit(RC), the lowest value(31mJ) of MIE was obtained for a suspended PP powder comparison with the other circuits(C circuit; 370mJ or LC circuit; 71mJ). (2) the discharge duration time is more important than other factors with regard to MIE of a suspended PP powder.

  • It is believed that two main proteolytic systems are involved in the tenderization of meat: the cathepsins and the calpains. Many researchers consider the calpain system to be the major contributor to meat tenderness during post-mortem storage. However, the role and activity of cathepsins during post-mortem storage or low temperature meat processing is unclear, particularly for the tough meat cuts like brisket. Thus, the study was designed to investigate the effects of cold (refrigerated and frozen) storage and sous vide processing on the activities of cathepsin B, H, and L in beef brisket. There were no significant changes in pH and cathepsin H activity throughout the 18 d of storage at both temperatures. However, an increase in cathepsin B activity was observed during the first 4 d at both storage temperatures, but subsequently the activity remained unchanged. Cathepsins B and L were found to be more heat stable at sous vide temperatures (50℃ for 24 h, 55℃ for 5 h and at 60℃ and 70℃ for 1 h) compared to cathepsin H. Cathepsin B+L activity was found to increase after sous vide cooking at 50℃ for 1 h but decreased to about 47% relative to the uncooked control after 24 h of cooking. These results suggest that cathepsins B and L may contribute to the improved meat tenderness usually seen in sous vide cooked brisket meat.
