  • The Gaetaesajiseokbulibsang (Treasure No. 219) consists of light gray and coarse to medium-grained granodiorite with feldspar phenocrysts in part. Magnetic susceptibility of the rock material was measured as 12.06(${\times}10^{-3}$ SI unit), being different from the granite($0.19{\times}10^{-3}$ SI unit) in the Mt. Cheonho. This indicates the raw material has been supplied from the outside. As a result of deterioration assessment, exfoliation of the Right Buddha, cement and dust of the Main Buddha were estimated as 35.2%, 21.1% and 25.0%. The ultrasonic velocity was measured as 2850.2m/s(Main Buddha), 2648.4m/s(Left Buddha) and 2644.5m/s(Right Buddha). The compressive strength calculated from the velocity showed low in the Right Buddha among three and the all pedestal parts which corresponds to the result of deterioration assessment. The indoor mean temperature and relative humidity of the shelter were $13.7^{\circ}C$ and 79.0%. It is evaluated that the indoor microclimate was stable and the shelter functioned to reduce climatic fluctuation of the outdoor. However, water condensation was occurred on the surface of the pedestal part during spring and summer, and freezing in winter season might also be done. These factors were probable to be a main cause of the surface exfoliation of the Triad Buddha Statues. Therefore, dehumidification and heating system in the shelter should be applied to prevent further deterioration.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate thermal properties of Taekwondo wears with three different materials. As a begging step, the questionnaire survey about the actual condition of Taekwondo wears was conducted. With the results of the questionnaire, cotton/nylon(70/30) blended fabric(CN) that was newly woven with sweat absorbent finishing and cotton/spandex(95/5) blended fabric with flexibility property were developed. The same designed 3 Taekwondo wears with 3 different materials which were two different materials(CN and CS) and a current material(cotton/PET, CP) were made. Four young males volunteered for this study, they kicked and punched as Taekwondo action for 20 minutes. Mean skin temperature was the highest in CS(33.1${\pm}$0.8$^{\circ}C$) and the lowest in CP(32.7${\pm}$0.6$^{\circ}C$). Increasing degree of rectal temperature didn't show any significant difference. Clothing microclimate temperature on the thigh was higher in CS(32.8${\pm}$17.4$^{\circ}C$) than in CN(29.4${\pm}$1.1$^{\circ}C$) and CP(29.4${\pm}$1.0$^{\circ}C$). Clothing microclimate temperature on the back and humidity on the thigh didn't show any significant differences. Clothing microclimate humidity on the back was higher in CP(65${\pm}$20%RH) than in CS(61${\pm}$17%RH). Heart rate, total body weight loss, and local sweating were not significantly different by materials. Most subject responded more hot in CN than in others, but there were no significant differences at the subjective sensation of thermal humidity. They answered more comfortable in CN than in others. Tectile sensations were the best in CN and the worst in CS. From those results, first of all, it is necessary to be weighted on Taekwondo wears made of CN in the aspects of the dignity of military arts uniform. Secondly, CS was required to be lighted and enhanced for the subjective sensation. Third, CP weaved honey comb was asked more various design to eliminate sweat high competition power within the scope of the dignity of military arts uniform.

  • The Gyeongju Seokbinggo (Treasure No. 66) is an ice-storing stone warehouse, consisting mainly of alkaligranite which shows milky white color and medium-grained textures with drusy cavities. As results of deterioration assessment, the deterioration rates were determined as crack (12.5%), disjoining (6.7%), breaking-out (25.1%), exfoliation (20.9%), efflorescence (6.5%), brown discoloration (9.8%), darkgray discoloration (2.0%) and biological discoloration (36.5%). Comprehensive physical deterioration rate and discoloration rate were calculated as 43.7% and 68.7%, respectively, that indicates the Seokbinggo has been severely weathered. Indoor relative humidity was above 90% except in winter season. Indoor microclimate was hardly fluctuating although indoor microclimate was dependent on the outdoor climate. The main cause of deterioration was high relative humidity and a long time of wetness due to penetration of rain, underground water and condensation. It was identified that the water brought out biological discoloration, dissolution of minerals, structural movement and efflorescence, and the dust from the ground soil in front of the entrance accelerated brown and dark gray discoloration on the stone surface.

  • This study quantified the effects of urban greenspace on microclimate amelioration and atmospheric $CO_2$ reduction for several residential districts selected in Korea and Japan. The study also explored fire obstruction by urban trees to develop systematic planting guidelines. Transpiration by a Zelkova serrata tree (diameter at breast height: 15 cm) in a day of August equaled cooling effect of about 3 air conditioners running for 12 hours. Average air temperature for the growing season was 0.5$^{\circ}C$ and 1.2$^{\circ}C$ cooler, respectively, in districts with 12% and 22% cover of woody plants than in a district with no vegetation. Annual $CO_2$ uptake and $O_2$ production by woody plants were 3 times greater in a district which was 2 times higher in their cover. Woody plants played, in a district with their 22% cover, an important role through offsetting total $CO_2$ emission from the district by about 3% annually, and through producing 10% of annual $O_2$ requirement by all residents within the district. Appropriate planning strategies of residential greenspace, including species selection, planting layout, greenspace enlargement, and maintenance were suggested to improve microclimate amelioration, air purification, and fire obstruction.

  • The Royal Tombs at Songsanri is one of the most important historic site for ancient historical study in Korean Peninsula. Since the excavation of the tombs, continuous exposure to the outside environment and the negative effects of the artificial air conditioning system have caused significant threats to the thermal environment stability of the tombs. Unlike the outside temperature that shows significant differences according to seasonal changes, the burial chamber of the tombs had a relatively stable temperature range of 11.4 to $22.2^{\circ}C$ throughout the year, and the standard deviation of temperature was within 3.5. It was revealed that major factors affecting the microclimate of the tombs were inflow of outdoor air, wind direction and speed, and all of them had closely related to airtightness of the tombs. The solar radiation was in inverse proportion to the thickness of burial mounds, and thus Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, which has the thickest burial mound, was least affected by solar radiation. Especially, microclimate of the tombs caused to the highest influence with artificial environmental changes due to access by people, which varied in proportion to the number of accessed people and time of stay. Currently, the inside of the tombs are sealed and always in saturated condition, it is very vulnerable to dew condensation. As a result of analyzing the possibility of condensation in each tomb, all the tomb No. 5, tomb No. 6 and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong had condensation most of the time throughout the year. It is required to make a proper conservation environment for the Royal Tombs at Songsanri.

  • The area damaged by the fire effect, most serious artificial damage of forest, was measured to analysis vegetation structures and changes of microclimate at the region of the Pal-gong mountain. Vegetation of whole investigated area was Querceto-Pinetum with rich differetial species. But at the areas fire damaged and undamaged, few differential were noted. The two communites appear physiognomical different of temperature according to height an ddepth at the area of damaged was 11:00 a.m. and 13:00 p.m. at undamaged area. On the whole, high temperature distribution at the damaged area and sensitive reaction by the changes of solar radiation were noticed. Changes of humidity according to height were few, but the saturating deficient at 13:00 p.m. at the whole investigated area extremely high and sensitive at the damaged area.
