  • In a 2-dimensional (2D) Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) hardware, a significant fraction of the total hardware area is contributed by the combinational logic used to perform 1-dimensional (2D) transform. The size of the non-combinational logic i.e. the transpose memory is dictated by the size of the largest transform supported. Hence, the optimization of hardware area is performed mainly for 1D-transform combinational logic. This paper demonstrates the use of Multiple Constant Multiplication (MCM) algorithm to reduce the combinational logic area. Partial optimizations are also described for the cases where the direct use of MCM algorithm doesn't meet the timing constraint. Experimental results show that 46% improvement in gate count is achieved for 32 point 1D DCT transform logic after using MCM optimization.

  • Titanium mesoporous materials have received increasing attention as a new photocatalyst in the field for photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds. The photocatalytic degradation of chlorothalonil by mesoporous titanium oxo-phoswhate (Ti-MCM) was investigated in aqueous suspension for comparison with $TiO_2$, (Degussa, P25) using as an effective photocatalyst of organic pollutants. Mesoporous form of titanium Phosphate has been prepared by reaction of sulfuric acid and titanium isopropoxide in the presence or n-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide. The XRD patterns of Ti-MCM are hexagonal phases with d-spacings of 4.1 nm. Its adsorption isotherm for chlorothalonil reached at reaction equilibrium within 60 min under dark condition with 28% degradation efficiency. The degradation ratio of chlorothalonil after 9 hours under the UV radiation condition (254 nm) exhibited 100% by Ti-MCM and 88% by $TiO_2$. However, these degradation kinetics in static state showed a slow tendency compared to that of stirred state because of a low contact between titanium matrices and chlorothalonil. Also, degradation efficiency of chlorothalonil was increased with decreasing initial concentration and with increasing pH of solution. As results of this study, it was clear that mesoporous titanium oxo-phosphate with high surface area and crystallinity could be used to photo- catalytic degradation of various organic pollutants.

  • To supplement the ISO-GUM method for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty, a simulation program using the Monte Carlo method (MCM) was developed, and the MCM and GUM methods were compared. The results are as follows: (1) Even under a non-normal probability distribution of the measurand, MCM provides an accurate coverage interval; (2) Even if a probability distribution that emerged from combining a few non-normal distributions looks as normal, there are cases in which the actual distribution is not normal and the non-normality can be determined by the probability distribution of the combined variance; and (3) If type-A standard uncertainties are involved in the evaluation of measurement uncertainty, GUM generally offers an under-valued coverage interval. However, this problem can be solved by the Bayesian evaluation of type-A standard uncertainty. In this case, the effective degree of freedom for the combined variance is not required in the evaluation of expanded uncertainty, and the appropriate coverage factor for 95% level of confidence was determined to be 1.96.

  • Various parametric methods, Larson-Miller (L-M), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (O-S-D), Manson-Haferd (M-H) parameters, and minimum commitment method (MCM), were used to predict longer rupture time from short-term creep data. A number of the creep data were collected through literature surveys and experimental data produced in KAERI for predicting the creep type of type 316LN SS. Polynomial equations for predicting the creep life were obtained by the time-temperature parameters (TTP) and the MCM. standard error (SE) and standard error or mean (SEM) values were compared for the each method with temperatures. The TTP methods were good in the creep-life prediction, but the MCM was much superior to the TTP ones at $700^{\circ}C\;and\;750^{\circ}C$. The MCM was found to be lower in the SE values compared to the TTP methods

(L-M), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (O-S-D), Manson-Haferd (M-H) parameters, and a Minimum Commitment Method (MCM) were suggested. A number of the creep data were collected through literature surveys and experimental data produced in KAERI. Standard error (SE) and standard error of mean (SEM) values were obtained and compared with the each method for various temperatures. • Mesoporous silica was prepared from hydrothermal synthesis using gel mixture of tetraethylorthosilcate (TEOS) as silica source and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMABr) as a surfactant. In the optimum synthesis cause, molar ratio of template and silica changed. The surface and structure properties of mesoporous silica were determined by XRD, SEM, TEM and BET. Also, surface potential of mesoporous silica was measured using zeta potential. $N_2$ adsorption isotherm characteristics, including the specific surface area ($S_{BET}$), total pore volume $V_T$), and average pore diameter ($D_{BJH}$), were determined by BET. As a result, SBET of $100m^2/g{\sim}1500m^2/g$ was determined from the $N_2$ adsorption isotherm. Also, the average pore diameter was 2 nm∼4 nm. Mesoporous silica's surface potential of minus charge was determined from zeta potential.
