This paper presents an adaptive MC-CDMA transmission for downlink in mobile satellite system and simulation results on Ka-band mobile satellite channel. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme support a throughput of several tens of Mbit/s and a spectral efficiency range of 1 bit/s/Hz to 4.7 bit/s/Hz according to channel environments due to the adaptive broadband satellite transmission.
In order to understand the mechanism of action of flavonoids on the drug metabolizing enzyme, cytochrome P450IA1, this study was undertaken to examine the effect of chrysin, morin, myricetin and aminopyrine on the activities of ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase and benzo(.alpha.) pyrene hydroxylase in the liver. In the isolated perfused rat liver that was pretreated with 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC), chrysin, morin, myricetin and aminopyrine inhibited the activity of ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase with concentration dependent manner. The isolated liver perfusion with chrysin, morin, myricetin and aminopyrine showed inhibition on the induction of ethoxyresorufin O- deethylase by 3MC. And also, in mouse liver hepa I cells, 3MC-stimulated the benzo(.alpha.)pyrene hydroxylase activity which was inhibited by chrysin, morin, myricetin and aminopyrine. These results strongly suggested that hydoxylated flavonoids interfered not only the induction of cytochrome P45OIA1 enzymes by 3MC but also the interaction of substrates and enzyme.

This study aimed to determine the effect of McKenzie lumbar support on pulmonary function in Stroke patients. Twenty subjects (n=20) were divided into two groups: a McKenzie lumbar support group (MLS group=10), a control group (n=10). Pulmonary function was performed to assess its effectiveness. A spirometer was used to measure the forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow (PEF). The intervention was conducted for four weeks. In the MLS group, FEV1, FVC, and PEF were increased after McKenzie lumbar support. (p<0.05), while no significant differences in the variables were found in the control group (p>0.05). There were no significant differences in variables between the MLS group and the control group (p>0.05). Our findings suggest that applying Mckenzie lumbar support may be an alternative maneuver to improve pulmonary function in stroke patients.
This study was carried out to investigate the toxicological effects of carbofuran on the histological and fine structures in the kidney, liver, and brain of rat and also to clarify compensatory effects of phenobarbital sodium (PB) and 3-methylcholanthrene(3-MC) on the carbofuran toxicity. SPF albino rats were treated with carbofuran(3.8mg/kg), PB(60mg/kg), 3-MC(60mg/kg), carbofuran+PB, carbofuran+3-MC and subjected to the light microscopic study. In the kidney of rat, hemorrhage and extremely atropic change of renal corpuscles were frequently observed at 48 hrs after carbofuran treatment. Combination treatment groups of carbofuran and PB or 3-MC showed atrophic changes were largely recovered at 6 hrs, and the tissue findings of the kidney became similar to those of control group at 48 hrs after treatment. In the liver of rat treated only carbofuran, the degenerative and necrotic changes of hepatic lobules were frequently observed at 48 hrs after carbofuran treatment. Combination treatment of carbofuran and PB or 3-MC showed the hepatic lobules were similar to those of control groups at 6 hrs after the combination treatment. In the brain of rat treated with carbofuran alone, degenerative changes and dilation of capillary vessel of cerebral cortexes were observed at 48hrs after treatment. Combination treatment of carbofuran and PB or carbofuran and 3-MC showed the cerebral cortexes were similar to those of control groups at 6 hrs after the treatment. These results suggest that PB and 3-MC could regenerate the toxicity of carbofuran to the tissue of kidney, liver and brain of rat.
In recent years, there have been increasing interests in the mobile crowdsourcing that exploits multiple sensors, communication and user interfaces, and the computation power of widespread smartphones. In this paper, we present a novel mobile crowdsourcing-based driver assistance systems (MC-DAS) that crowdsource the sensor data of smartphone app having already passed a road segment, generate its profile information through a massive data processing, and forward this profile to the smartphone app of vehicle entering the road segment. Based on the MC-DAS platform, we also design and implement a new navigation system that advices the vehicle speed depending on the speedbump and on the road curvature profile. We expect that the proposed MC-DAS platform will be used as a platform for emerging new mobile crowdsourcing applications.

The aim of this study is to calculate the JO-IMRT dose distributions based on the AAPM TG-119 using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and Prowess Panther treatment planning system (TPS) (Panther, Prowess Inc., Chico, CA). JO-IMRT dose distributions of AAPM TG-119 were calculated by the TPS and were recalculated by MC simulation. The DVHs and 3D gamma index using global methods implemented in the PTW-VeriSoft with 3%/3 mm were used for evaluation. JO-IMRT dose distributions calculated by TPS and MC were matched the TG-119 goals. The gamma index passing rates with 3%/3 mm were 98.7% for multi-target, 96.0% for mock prostate, 95.4% for mock head-and-neck, and 96.6% for C-shape. The dose in the planning target volumes (PTV) for TPS was larger than that for the MC. The relative dose differences in D99 between TPS and MC for multi-target are 1.52%, 0.17% and 1.40%, for the center, superior and inferior, respectively. The differences in D95 are 0.16% for C-shape; and 0.06% for mock prostate. Mock head-and-neck difference is 0.40% in D99. In contrast, the organ curve for TPS tended to be smaller than MC values. JO-IMRT dose distributions for the AAPM TG-119 calculated by the TPS agreed well with the MC.
In FPD WET equipment, heaters are used a lot. There are many electric accidents caused by short circuit and overheating due to the use of heater, so it is necessary to have a safe electric system and interlock. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an electrical schematic and interlock for FPD WET equipment. In this paper, a hardware interlock such as a level sensor, an overheat protector, and an SSR heater sink is inserted, and the electric system is composed of ELB - MC - SSR - EOCR - heater. When the interlock occurs, the magnetic contactor (MC) is turned off and the power of the heater is cut off.EOCR, an electric overcurrent protection device, has an interlock to shut down the MC when there is an abnormality in the heater while checking the overcurrent, undercurrent and disconnection. These circuit configurations and interlocks are likely to be useful not only for WET equipment but also for any equipment in which the heater is placed.

In this study, the healing performance of hybrid self-healing concrete was investigated by mixing bacterial pellets(BP) and solid phase capsules(SC), respectively, based on organic-inorganic self-healing material(MC). Constant water head permeability test was applied as a method of evaluating the healing performance, and the healing rate and the healed crack width calculated by the equivalent crack width were used as evaluation indicies. As a result of the water permeability test, when the initial crack width was 0.3 mm, the healing rates of MC-BP and MC-SC were 2.1~3.0 %pt higher than that of MC, and the healed crack width of hybrid concrete increased by 0.017~0.018 mm. In conclusion, it was found that the self-healing performance was not significantly improved even if the two types of healing materials are used together.
Most cattle breeds have a coat color pattern that is characteristic for the breed. Korean cattle(Hanwoo) has a coat color ranging from yellowish brown to dark brown including a red coat color. Variation in the Hanwoo coat color is likely to be the effects of modified genes segregating within the Hanwoo breed. MC1R encoded by the Extension(E) locus was almost fixed with recessive red e allele in the Hanwoo, but other gene(s) might be affecting the variation of the Hanwoo coat color into yellowish to red brown. We have analyzed a segregation of coat color in the F2 families generated from two Hanwoo bulls(yellowish brown) mated to six F1 dams(black) derived from Hanwoo and Holstein crosses. Segregation of coat color in the offspring found a ratio of 1(yellowish brown) : 1(black) and this ratio indicates that a single gene may play a major role for the Hanwoo coat color. We further investigated SNPs in MC1R, ASIP and TYRP1 loci to determine genetic cause of the Hanwoo coat color. Several polymorphisms within ASIP intron 2 and TYRP1 exons were found but not conserved within the Hanwoo population. However, the segregation of the MC1R e allele was completely associated with the Hanwoo coat color. Based on this information, it is clear that the MC1R e allele is mainly responsible for the yellowish red Hanwoo coat color. Further study is warrant to identify possible genetic interaction between MC1R e allele and other coat color related gene(s) for the variation of Hanwoo coat color from yellowish brown to dark brown.
