The combined effects of EDTA-Tris and eighteen antimicrobial agents have been evaluated in eight clinically isolated methicillin-resistant bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus uberis and Streptococcus agalactiae) from bovine mastitis. The antimicrobial activity was evaluated by measuring the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) for the antibiotics alone or in combination with EDTA-Tris in Mueller-Hilton broth and milk. Combined use of EDTA-Tris and antibiotics potentiated or antagonized activity of antibiotics against mastitic pathogens. Milk increased the antibiotic potency of erythromycin and spiramycin on S. aureus. Culture in milk changed patterns of EDTA-Tris combinational effects compared with that in standard Mueller-Hilton broth. Combined with EDTA-Tris in milk, synergic effects were observed in colistin, dihydrostreptomycin, kanamycin, erythromycin, gentamycin, oxytetracycline, streptomycin to E. coli, Str. uberis, and Str. agalactiae. However, significant antagonistic effects of milk on antibiotic susceptibility in combination with EDTA-Tris were noted in neomycin, streptomycin, penicillin, roxithromycin, and amoxicillin. This study indicates that combination therapy of EDTA-Tris with antibiotics in bovine mastitis should be used with caution because of the possible antagonistic effects of antibiotic combination with EDTA-Tris on mastitic pathogens. In addition, antibiotic susceptibility test in combination with EDTA-Tris in milk culture condition can be benefit in search of effective treatment regimen for some antibiotic-resistant bacteria of mastitis.

Purpose: Essential oils are secondary metabolites of herbs and have antibacterial activities against foodborne pathogens. However, their applications for food protection are limited due to the hydrophobic and volatile natures of essential oils. Methods: In this study, essential oil nanoemulsions of rosemary and lavender were formulated with non-ionic surfactant Tween 80 and water using ultrasonic emulsification, and their antibacterial effects were determined. Results: The antibacterial activities of nanoemulsions were evaluated against 12 strains of 10 bacterial species, and significant antibacterial effects were observed against four Gram-positive and four Gram-negative bacteria but not against Streptococcus mutans and Shigella sonnei. In the disc diffusion test, the diameter of the inhibition zone proportionally increased with the concentration of nanoemulsions. Using cell turbidity measurement, minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the nanoemulsions, which is the lowest concentration reducing viability of the initial bacterial inoculum by ${\geq}99.9%$, was significantly higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the nanoemulsions. The largest bactericidal effects of lavender and rosemary essential oil nanoemulsions were observed against S. enterica and S. aureus, respectively. Conclusion: Nanoemulsion technique could improve antibacterial activity of essential oil nanoemulsions by increasing the solubility and stability of essential oils. Our findings shed light on the potential use of essential oil nanoemulsions as an alternative to chemical sanitizers in food protection.

This study has attempted to explore the way to construct the reality and its implication of the narrative elements in TV Audition Reality Show. According to the study results, first of all, two audition reality show has added the special tasks to characters based on the competition and has developed the dramatic events sequentially. And they has suggested the course of way between survival and fail, that is, inclusion and exclusion. As that results, audiences has be immersed in the process of the justification of the star(hero) myth and the dealings of musical elements to see dramatized show of narrative. And they knew audition reality show as non-real fiction, so they enjoyed the pleasure spontaneously. These means that the empowered media reproduced the illusion like star(hero) with the purpose of the commercial and political aim and one of the ideology to acquiesce in the appropriateness of the competition.

The purpose of this study is at clarifying what the genre oriented characteristics of virtual reality programs are. For this, the tests of 'We Are Married' being broadcasted in 'Sunday, Sunday Night' Part 1 of MBC from episode 1 to 8. As a result of analysis, this program was mixing together virtuality and reality by placing the image of virtual couple's life and presentness of entertainers existing in reality appearing at the studio. Also, it was forming sympathy with users as it satisfies fantasy and sense of reality toward marriage by the entertainer couples showing love and conflict that may happen between real couples after setting various categories of couple types. Also, through the device for the public space to confess private feelings through television, it shows the boundary between public domain and private domain breaking up. Along with this, it has implemented amusement characteristics by inspiring enjoyment of users by a substituted satisfaction through various forms of impressions presented to spouse such as materials, effort, gesture or language, etc. Accordingly, the virtual reality program shows authenticity, fiction and amusement by being mixed together and we can see that such genre oriented characteristics act as important strategy appealing to users based on breakup of boundary and genre oriented ambiguity.

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (S. miltiorrhiza) is a traditional Korean medicine that is commonly used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as edema, arthritis, and hepatitis. The present study investigated the antimicrobial activity of methanol (MeOH) extract of S. miltiorrhiza roots against oral bacteria using broth the microdilution method and the checkerboard and time-kill methods evaluated the synergistic effects of treatment with antibiotics. The MeOH extract was demonstrated as a higher antibacterial activity (MICs, 8 to $64\;{\mu}g/mL$; MBCs, 16 to $64\;{\mu}g/mL$) against all tested oral bacteria. Additionally, the extract was observed to have a synergistic effect with ampicillin or gentamicin. A time-kill study evaluating the effects of the extract indicated that the extract treatment in combination with ampicillin or gentamicin showed rapid bactericidal activity. The results suggest that MeOH extract of S. miltiorrhiza could be employed as a natural antibacterial agent against dental caries.

This paper aims at advancing the understanding of human communication by reflecting the role of the consciousness of time in television communication. As the past, the present and the future are not independent realities, but co-exist in the human consciousness, the 'experience' and the 'expectation' are used as two essential conceptual tools which explain the mechanism of operation of the consciousness of time. The man anticipates the future based on the experience updated in the present, and chooses a present action and feels an emotion according to the expectation. The consciousness of time is extended to the symbolic instrument of time and the dominant vision of the world in the process of the socialization. The role of the consciousness of time in television communication is analyzed in both genres of information and fiction based on the media characteristics of television. The information and the fiction genres oppose to each other according to their relationships to the reality, but it turned out that their effects of communication such as enjoyment and novelty depends in common on the way of using the televiewer's consciousness of time.

In the study reported here, the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the ethanol leaf extract of Dendropanax morbiferus Lev. from Jeju Island was investigated. Of the 14 strains of 12 species of microorganisms tested, the extract exhibited antimicrobial activity observed against seven Gram-positive bacteria of four species, but not against six Gram-negative bacteria and a yeast strain. Using the disc diffusion method, the diameter of the inhibition zone increased with application of the extract with every strain and the highest growth inhibition was exhibited with Staphylococcus aureus KCTC 1916 at 5 mg/ml. The minimal inhibitory concentration of the extract (MIC) by turbidity was 2.5 mg/ml against Bacillus cereus KACC 12672 and 15 mg/ml when with Enterococcus faecalis KCTC 3206. The minimum bacterial concentration (MBC) values defined as being $${\geq_-}99.9%$$ reduction in viable cells against the tested strains was higher than the MIC values. Time killing curves using the optimum MIC were performed on seven strains incubated for 48 hr. The growth of B. cereus KACC 12672 was detected after 12 hr and no significant growth was found in the others strains after 48 hr (p<0.05). The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity of the ethanol leaf extract was similar to that of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) at the same concentration. These results indicate that leaf extract of D. morbiferus Lev. can be utilized as a natural preservative and an antioxidant.

The purpose of the study was to explore media frames and its contents regarding foreign athletes' naturalization to Korea. For data, 101 media reports from the year of 2014 to 2016 were collected and analyzed. As results, in the simple-fact-report frame, facts regarding foreign athletes' naturalization process and results of the matches were reported. In the economic frame, legitimacy of the naturalization was supported by emphasizing its benefits. In the humane-interest frame, personal history and difficulty as foreign athletes were described. In the conflict frame, negative effects by the foreign athletes' naturalization were mainly reported.. In the morality/responsibility attribution frame, Chelsey Lee's document forgery case was mostly highlighted that later issued naturalized athletes' morality and following legal actions.

Problems and improvemental measures for the historical inquiry of TV drama costumes and for the reproduction of them were investigated. For this study, the MBC historical drama 'The way of the Great King' started on march 24 in 1998 and ended on september 26 in 1998 was selected as the subject. The reasons why the drama was selected are as follows. First, the historical background was the time of King Young ＆ drama introduced various kinds of costumes Joungjo, which is the starting era of traditional costumes peculiar to Korea. Second, the based on the historical inquiry of that time. There is a limitation in the process of historical inquiry about the costumes of that time because we don't have enough research data such as relics, remains, references, literary works, pictures, etc. Although, in some cases, exact historical inquiry about the costumes were made, they could not be reproduced in the original forms due to several reasons: the absence of the materials of that time, structural changes including length and size for convenience of action, alterations of the manufacturing method for the reuse, addition of the gorgeous and various olors for the enhancement of image quality, variations in colors according to the actor's character, modulations of the structures and colors by the producer's intention, and the restraints in time and money for manufacturing. In view of these situations, it seems to be difficult for us to settle the problems occurring between the historical inquiry about the traditional costumes and the reproduction of them in drama. However, the costumes presented in historical drama have the meanings to provide informations of that time with TV audience. Therefore I think that it is necessary to narrow the gap between the historical inquiry of TV drama costumes and for the reproduction of hem, First, It should be restrained that each broadcasting stations show the costumes under the similar situations of the same age in different ways. Second, We need to unify the inquiry systems concerning historical drama costumes, In addition to this, it is also necessary for broadcasting stations to establish internet sites of traditional costumes for communication.

Recently, LED background image devices are used for the production of broadcasting programs. But the effective advantages of LED background image devices are not realized for good HD video quality because the correlations between lighting sources and LED background image devices are not analyzed yet. In this paper, we analyze the color change and light intensity that lighting sources and the light intensity ratio of LED background images influence on a subject, making use of equipments used in real broadcasting, and examine the correlations between HD video quality and the light intensity ratio of LED background images. As a result in this experiment, the video is most expressed having an 20[IRE] effect on a subject when the light intensity of LED background image is 6%. When the LED background image is light, the light and darkness of video is distorted and when the LED background image is dark, the colors of image are distorted.
