Illite-smectite mixed layers (I-S) occurring authigenically in diagenetic and hydrothermal environments reacts toward more illite-rich phases as temperature and potassium ion concentration increase. For that reason, I-S is often used as geothermometry and/or geochronometry at the field of hydrocarbons or ore minerals exploration. Generally, I-S shows X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns of ultra-thin lamellar structures, which consist of restricted numbers of sillicate layers (normally, 5 ~ 15 layers) stacked in parallel to a-b planes. This ultra-thinness is known to decrease I-S expandability (%S) rather than theoretically expected one (short-stacking effect). We attempt here to quantify the short stacking effect of I-S using the difference of two types of expandability: one type is a maximum expandability ($%S_{Max}$) of infinite stacks of fundamental particles (physically inseparable smallest units), and the other type is an expandability of finite particle stacks normally measured using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) ($%S_{XRD}$). Eleven I-S samples from the Geumseongsan volcanic complex, Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, have been analyzed for measuring $%S_{XRD}$ and average coherent scattering thickness (CST) after size separation under 1 ${\mu}m$. Average fundamental particle thickness ($N_f$) and $%S_{Max}$ have been determined from $%S_{XRD}$ and CST using inter-parameter relationships of I-S layer structures. The discrepancy between $%S_{Max}$ and $%S_{XRD}$ (${\Delta}%S$) suggests that the maximum short-stacking effect happens approximately at 20 $%S_{XRD}$, of which point represents I-S layer structures consisting of ca. average 3-layered fundamental particles ($N_f{\approx}3$). As a result of inferring the $%S_{XRD}$ range of each Reichweite using the $%S_{XRD}$ vs. $N_f$ diagram of Kang et al. (2002), we can confirms that the fundamental particle thickness is a determinant factor for I-S Reichweite, and also that the short-stacking effect shifts the $%S_{XRD}$ range of each Reichweite toward smaller $%S_{XRD}$ values than those that can be theoretically prospected using junction probability.
Based on the structure feature of a tree, a cylindrical $Ti_2AlC$/graphite layered composite has been fabricated through heat treating a graphite column and six close-matched thin wall $Ti_2AlC$ cylinders bonded with the $Ti_2AlC$ powders at $1300^{\circ}C$ and low oxygen partial pressure. SEM examination reveals that the bond interlayers between cylinders or that between cylinder and column are not fully dense without any crack formation. During the compressive test, the strain of the $Ti_2AlC$/graphite layered composite is about twice higher than that of the monolithic $Ti_2AlC$ ceramic, and the compressive strength of the layered composite is 348 MPa. The layered composite show the noncatastrophic fracture behaviors due to the debonding and shelling off of the layers, which are different from the monolithic $Ti_2AlC$ ceramic. The mechanism of the improved deformation capacity and noncatastrophic failure modes are attributed to the presence of the central soft graphite column and cracks deflection by the bond interlayers.
To find out the optimum heating profile for the nitridation of compacts of graded silicon grains (max 53$mu extrm{m}$) two batches with the addition of MgO and $Mg(NO_3)_3$$cdot$$6H_2O$ to silicon particles were isostatically pressed into compacts. They were nitrided under some different nitriding schedules. The properties such as bulk densitis microstructures and formed phases were measured and observed. The following results were obtained ; 1) About 10% unreacted silicon remained in specimen which was nitrided at 1, 350$^{\circ}C$ for 240hrs. 2) One of the step-heating processes 1, 150$^{\circ}C$-1, 390$^{\circ}C$ for 65hrs are then $1, 390^{\circ}C$for 50hrs was the low temperature but with that at high temperature. 3) High pressure(10.5kgf/$cm^2$) of nitrogen at 1, 390$^{\circ}C$ accelerated the $\alpha$$
ightarrow$$\beta$ transformation of silicon nitride. 4) Magnesium nitrate was superior to magnesium oxide in the role of nitriding aid and the formation of uniform microstructures.

The gas cloud G2 falling toward Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, is supposed to provide valuable information on the physics of accretion flows and the environment of the black hole. We observed Sgr A* with four European stations of the Global Millimeter Very Long Baseline Interferometry Array (GMVA) at 86 GHz on 1 October 2013 when parts of G2 had already passed the pericenter. We searched for possible transient asymmetric structure - such as jets or winds from hot accretion flows - around Sgr A* caused by accretion of material from G2. The interferometric closure phases (which are zero if the spatial brightness distribution of the target is symmetric, and deviate from zero otherwise) remained zero within errors during the observation time. We thus conclude that Sgr A* did not show significant asymmetric (in the observer frame) outflows in late 2013. Using simulations, we constrain the size of the outflows that we could have missed to ${\approx}2.5$ mas along the major axis, ${\approx}0.4$ mas along the minor axis of the beam, corresponding to approximately 232 and 35 Schwarzschild radii, respectively; we thus probe spatial scales on which the jets of radio galaxies are suspected to convert magnetic into kinetic energy. As probably less than 0.2 Jy of the flux from Sgr A* can be attributed to accretion from G2, one finds an effective accretion rate ${\eta}M{\leq}1.5{\times}10^9kg/s{\approx}7.7{\times}10^{-9}M_{earth}/yr$ for material from G2. Exploiting the kinetic jet power-accretion power relation of radio galaxies, one finds that the rate of accretion of matter that ends up in jets is limited to $M{\leq}10^{17}kg/s{\approx}0.5M_{Earth}/yr$ less than about 20% of the mass of G2. Accordingly, G2 appears to be largely stable against loss of angular momentum and subsequent (partial) accretion at least on time scales ${\leq}1$ year.

The objective of study was to investigate the optimal echo phase for mouse brain enhancement scan using fast low angle shot (FLASH) sequence of 9.4T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For quantification based on this method, an MR phantom experiment and clinical research were done. The phantom experiment was conducted by fabricating three phantoms with different molar concentration of gadolinium to create changes in echo phase of 9.4T FLASH sequence used in mouse brain scans. In the phantom experiment, SSI was 25~27 [arbitrary units, a.u.] in each of 33 phases from $6{\pi}$ to $28{\pi}$, while RSP was 30~100 mmol. MPSI was 47~52 [a.u], while MPP, where MPSI is seen, was 0.8~9 mmol. EPMS was 80.8~108.0%, while ASIMP was formed between 21.1 and 31.8 [a.u]. In the clinical research, Finally, the occurrence rate of artifact that expressed -1 nd +1. The present study was able to quantify the degree of enhancement at FLASH sequence of 9.4T MRI, as well as identify the optimal echo phase during mouse brain enhancement scan.
Two solid solution-type phases has been experimentally found in the quaternary system Cu-Fe-Sn-S:$(Fe, Cu, Sn)_{1+x}$ and $Cu_{2-x}Fe_(1+x}SnS_4$. These solid solutions are stable around the CuS-FeS-SnS referecne plane in the composition tetrahedron. One is the sphalerite-type monosulfide solid solution which has a extensive stability range with varying degrees of sulfur/metal ratio 9.7-1.0/1.0. The other is tetrahedrite-type phase $Cu_{2-y)Fe_{1+y}SnS_4(y_{max}=0.4)$ which is stable along the $Cu_2FeSnS_4-FeS$ tie line, but shows no phase transformation in the subsolidus range and decomposes incongruently at the range of 835-862${\circ}C$, depending on the compositional variation. Particularly, the latter phase shows the characteristic superstructure reflections, indicating that it is a derivative of sphalerite structure. The stability field of these two sphalerite-type phases are defined on the basis of diffraction pattern and optical homogeneity of the synthetic materials at the temperature range of 700-400${\circ}C$.
The mammalian heart is known to undergo significant mechanical changes during fetal and neonatal development. The objective of this study was to define the ontogeny of the ryanodine receptor/$Ca^{2+}$ release channel and SERCA that play the major roles in excitation-contraction coupling. Whole ventricular homogenates of fetal (F) (19 and 22 days in gestation), postnatal (N) (1 and 7 days postnatal), and adult (A) (5 weeks postnatal) Sprague-Dawley rat hearts were used to study [$^3H$]ryanodine binding and oxalate-supported $^{45}Ca^{2+}$ uptake. For the ryanodine receptor, the major findings were: (1) The ryanodine receptor density, as determined by maximal [$^3H$]ryanodine binding ($B_{max}$), increased 3 fold between the F22 and A periods ($0.26{\pm}0.1$ vs. $0.73{\pm}0.07$ pmoles/mg protein, p<0.01), whereas there was no significant change during the F22 and N1 development phases ($0.26{\pm}0.1$ vs. $0.34{\pm}0.01$). (2) Affinity of the ryanodine receptor to ryanodine did not significantly change, as suggested by the lack of change in the $K_d$ during the development and maturation. For SERCA, changes started early with an increased rate of $Ca^{2+}$ uptake in the fetal periods (F19: $8.1{\pm}1.1$ vs. F22: $19.3{\pm}2.2$ nmoles/g protein/min; p<0.05) and peaked by 7 days (N7) of the postnatal age ($34.9{\pm}2.1$). Thus, we conclude that the quantitative changes occur in the ryanodine receptor during myocardial development. Also, the maturation of the $Ca^{2+}$ uptake appears to start earlier than that of the $Ca^{2+}$ release.

The research on new DRA(discontinuous reinforced alloy) and CRA(continous reinforced alloy) composites has been carried out to improve the properties of ceramic fiber and particle reinforced metal matrix composites(MMCs). Effects of alloying elements and aging conditions on the microstructures and aging behavior of Al-Si-Cu-Mg-(Ni)-SiCp composite have been examined. The specimens used in this study were manufactured by duplex process. The first squeeze casting is the process to make precomposite and the second squeeze casting is the process to make final composite. The hardening behavior was accelerated with decreasing the size of SiCp particle in the composites. It is considered that the dislocation density increased with increasing SiCp size, due to the different thermal deformation between Al matrix and SiCp during quenching after the solution treatment. Peak aging time to obtain the maximum hardness in 3 ${\mu}m$ SiCp reinforced Al composite was reduced than that in large size(5, 10 ${\mu}m$) of SiCp because of difference in dislocation density. Aging hardening responce(${\Delta}H$ = $H_{Max}.-H_{S.T}$) of composites was greater than that of unreinforced Al alloy because of higher density of second phases in matrix.
The addition of Co into $Nd_4Fe_{77.5-x}Co_x(HfGa)_yB_{18.5}(0$\leq$x$\leq$5, y=0, 0.5)4 was found to enhance the magnetic properties of $Fe_3B/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ nanocomposite magnets. The enhancement resulted from the fact that Co retarded the crystallization of $\alpha$-Fe or Fe3B but accelerated that $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. The decreased interval between the onset of crystallization temperature of Fe3B and $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. phases enabled the grain growth of each phase to be uniform dufing a post annealing of the melt spun ribbons. The addition of 3~5 at. % Co into ternary composition $Md_4Fe_{77.5}B_{18.5}$ increased the coercivity (iHc) from 3.27 to 3.54 kOe with the enhanced remanence value (4$\pi$Mr) around 11.54 kG. From the ribbon magnets of Nd4Fe71.5Co5Hf0.5B18.5 made at 26 m/sec and annealed at 68$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min, the magnetic properties of Br=11.54 kG, iHc=3.54 kOe, and (BH)max=14.35 MGOe were obtained from volume production line.

In this paper time series wave data are simulated by the Monte Calo method using random numbers to generate random phases of the wave signal. The simulated wave signasl are used to study the characteristics of freak waves. Various sea states are represented by combinations of the significant wave height $H_s$ defined in the spectrum method and the significant wave steepness $S_s$. For a fixed value of $S_s$, the probability of the occurrence of the freak wave is decreased as $H_s$ increases. For a fixed value of $H_s$ the probability of the occurrence of the freak wave increases as $S_s$ increases. The average value of the maximum wave height increase as $S_s$ increases, but the average height of freak wave remains the same and the value approaches two times of $H_s$. For the fixed value of $S_s$, average kurtosis of wave elevation increases as $H_s$ increases, but for a fixed $H_s$, the average kurtosis decreases as $S_s$ increases. The average of abnormality index(AI) is around 2.11 irregardless of $H_s$ and $S_s$. The maximum value of AI lies between 2.5 - 3.0. Therefore it is conjectured that AI maximum due to linear focusing is 3.0.
