  • In this paper, the conceptual model for bibliographic Information consistent and compatible with MARC is presented. The modeling requirements are derived from MARC-related models such as MARC21, MARCXML and MODES. To meet these requirements, this paper proposes the conceptual model based on MARC formalism. The model composed with aggregation relationships among bibliographic data elements can use semantic tags of XML. As the model can be realized into diverse structures, it will be effectively applied for the development of bibliographic information management systems. Since MARC defines only record format and has the limitations in semantic representation, the metadata system that can expand bibliographic data elements in MRAC into metadata level is strongly required.

  • This article investigates the general characteristics and developments of the MARC format for holdings data. It also analyzes the record structure, content designation, and the content of it, mainly based on USMARC and KORMARC formats. Structure and content designation of them are almost same with those of the bibliographic and authority formats. The data fields divided into functional blocks based on their functions, but only 0XX, 5XX, 8XX fields are used in the holdings formats. Record contents of the data in the 008 fields include more elements related to the holdings and acquisition information. Variable fields can be grouped into several blocks, including those for numbers and codes; for notes fields, for location , and for holdings data. Holdings data fields include caption and pattern fields, enumeration and chronology fields, textual holdings fields, and item information fields. This article analyzes the content in each data fields in detail.

  • This comparative analysis is a preliminary study for the Integrated format in MARC systems in Korea, Taiwan and Japan. For this purpose, it analyzes KORMARC, CHINESE MARC and JAPAN MARC formats, dividing them into the structure of the record, its contents, and content designation. The results of this analysis shows that t~ere is no compatibility among these three formats due to the differences in the organization and division of the data elements and the deficiency of the data elements themselves.

Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the applicable methods of the provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the provider supplied e-book package. Through the literature reviews and homepage analysis of 15 university libraries in domestic, the theoretical background on cataloging e-book, the descriptive cataloging of e-book, the provider-neutral e-monograph MARC record guideline as new standard for e-book, and the libraries practices of cataloging bibliographic records of the e-book package were inquired. Based on these analysis, it was to suggest applicable methods of provider neutral e-book(e-monograph) MARC record guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of domestic e-book packages in aspect of cataloging rule, KORMARC, and neutral bibliographic records. This study will contribute to build FRBRization of the e-books in OPAC as finding the guideline for the standardization of the bibliographic records of the e-book packages for both providers and libraries.
