  • The purpose of this study was to validate caregiver outcomes included Nursing Outcomes Classification(NOC) developed by Johnson and Maas at the University of Iowa. A sample of 73 nurse experts working in university affiliated hospitals participated in this study. They were asked to rate indicators that examplified the outcomes on a scale of 1(indicator is not at all characteristic) to 5(indicator is very characteristic). A questionnaire with an adaptation of Fehring's methodology was used to establish the content validity of outcomes. The results were as follow: 1. Eight outcome label were considered to be 'supporting' and three outcome label were considered to be 'nonsupporting'. 2. 'Caregiver-Patient Relationship' attained an OCV score of 0.64 and the highest OCV score among caregiver outcomes.. 3. 'Caregiver Emotional Health' attained an OCV score of 0.54 and the lowest OCV score among caregiver outcomes. Replication study will be needed and outcomes sensitive to Korean culture need to be developed.

  • Mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) are small secondary metabolites produced by organisms that live in environments with high volumes of sunlight, is an important group of novel bioactive compounds having immense biotechnological poten-tials due to their UV screening properties and Polypyrrole (PPy) is a type of organic polymer formed by polymerization of pyrrole. A novel composite nanofilm (~60 nm) of mycosporine-like amino acid (MAA) and polypyrrole is synthesized by interfacial polymerization technique. This composite nanofilm is conductive and has strong photoresponse. A photoelectric UV sensor is fabricated by depositing the composite film onto a silicon chip. This UV sensor shows good sensitivity, selectivity and stability for UV detection.

  • Marine algae contain a variety of substances, such as mycosporine-like amino acids, which can defend against UV irradiation. Among them, Porphyra-334 derived from Porphyra yezoensis is attracting attention as a novel active ingredient for anti-aging cosmetics because of its excellent anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties through promoting skin cell migration. In this study, a process using direct current (DC) for increasing the yield of large-scale purification of Porphyra-334 was developed. When DC was applied to obtain Porphyra-334 efficiently, the purification time was shortened by approximately 1/4 compared with the process wherein DC was not applied; moreover, the yield of purification was improved.

  • Purpose: This study examined the relationship among stressful life events, mindfulness and depression, and explored the mediating role of mindfulness between stressful life events and depression in nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken. A sample of 120 nursing students participated in the study. The self-reported measures of stressful life events (revised life stress scale), depression (DASS-D) and mindfulness (MAAS) were adopted in April, 2017. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Mediation analysis was performed using the Baron & Kenny method and Sobel test. Results: The mean scores of stressful life events, mindfulness and depression were 39.50, 77.03, and 8.18, respectively. Higher levels of stressful life events were associated with lower mindfulness (r = -46, p < .001) and higher depression (r = -44, p < .001), and mindfulness was negatively associated with depression (r = -72, p < .001). Mindfulness showed full mediation in the relationship between stressful life events and depression. Conclusion: Stressful life events influenced the nursing students' depression via the full mediating effect of mindfulness. Promoting mindfulness plays an important role in reducing depression in nursing students. Therefore, it is important to develop a mindfulness program or use a mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) for nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and test the validity of the standardized Korean nomenclature of Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), developed by Johnson & Maas at the University of Iowa. The four phases of the study were: (1) translation of the NOC into Korean by the research team, (2) four nursing professors and eight nurses with various clinical backgrounds reviewed each nomenclature taking into consideration definitions and nursing activities. The modified Delphi method was used to determine the most appropriate nomenclature for each term; (3) Twenty four academic and clinical experts in nursing were given a questionnaire to rate each Korean nomenclature using a 5 point Likert scale ranging from very inappropriate to very appropriate; (4) the team determined the most appropriate Korean nomenclature for each class of the NOC. The mean validity score of 190 items was 4.54, but several nursing outcome had a score lower than 4.0. They included 'adherence behavior(3.3)', 'ambulation : walking(3.57)', 'transfer performance (3.57)', 'caregiving endurance potential(3.57)'.

  • The UV-B sensitivity was tested for the intertidal species Chondrus ocellatus from Korea, by measuring photosynthesis estimated as effective quantum yield ($\Phi_{PSII}$) of photosystem II (PS II), growth and content and composition of photosynthetic pigments and UV-absorbing pigments (UVAPs). The $$\Phi_{PSII}$ of the alga decreased with increasing time of exposure to UV-B radiation, followed by fast and nearly full recovery indicating dynamic photoinhibiton. Fresh weight-based growth and pigment contents of C. ocellatus were not seriously affected by UV-B radiation. A single broad peak at 327 nm was obtained from methanol extracts of C. ocellatus, and the absorbance peak increased with increasing UV. The single peak was resolved into three peaks (311, 330 and 336 nm) by the fourth -derivative, and quantitative change in response to UV-B radiation occurred only at 330 nm. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis of purified extracts indicated that three MAAs (mycosporine-like amino acids) are present, asterina 330, palythine and shinorine. Field observations during three growing months showed that C. ocellatus exhibit the highest amount of UVAPs in May followed by July and little trace in September, coinciding with the species' phenology. In an ecological context, dynamic photoinhibition as well as accumulation of UVAPs may enable the shallow water red alga C. ocellatus to be well adapted to high UV-B environments.

  • The Crying of Lot 49 presents the writer's major ideas through Oedipa Maas who tries to seek out the truth of a mysterious underground postal network, Tristero. Of the many themes inherent in The Crying of Lot 49, probably the most important and widespread of all is 'paranoia', which plays a major role in helping us to comprehend and appreciate other thematic ideas. The other main motif in this novel is a conspiracy. However, it is really difficult to distinguish between reality and fantasy in the crazed environment. Therefore, it is uncertain that the existence of Tristero is a real conspiracy or just a paranoia. The world revealed to her after considering Tristero's knowledge is totally different from the world previously familiar to Oedipa and she discovers that the nature and origins of Tristero will not be a quest of simple curiosity any longer and she greatly needs to escape from the closed system of perception. The secret of the Tristero case should be found in order to return to reality. In addition, accepting what Oedipa has seen and heard may be a reasonable way for her to become a paranoiac.

  • The world is currently confronted with regional conflicts among nations that seek to protect their territory. The associated counter-terrorism activities and international business flows can be increased through airworthiness-recognition tasks that are related to aircraft exports, dispatch troops, and overseas bases. It is important to establish airworthiness-recognition processes between foreign military authorities to minimize the potential for sovereign national positions and responsibilities. For this study, the military airworthiness recognition between recognition partners was surveyed to secure flight safety for the development and operation of aircrafts. The analysis of the U.S. and European Military Authority Recognition Questionsets (MARQs) in this paper introduces the rules, inspection capabilities, production process, and certification of the airworthiness authority. The regulatory activities, which are required by the Korea Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) with respect to foreign MAAs, can be reduced by the implementation of the MARQ.
