Slug/bail tests were conducted in sand layer (sbt-1 well), silty sand layer (sbt-2 well), and mixed sand and silty sand layer (sbt-3 well). Hydraulic conductivity and specific storage coefficient were estimated through slug/bail tests. Pore volumes of groundwater level drawdown zone for bail test were estimated by using hydraulic conductivity and specific storage coefficient. KGS model was most suitable interpretation method of slug/bail tests. Average hydraulic conductivity for slug/bail tests were estimated to be $6.65{\times}10^{-5}$ m/sec in sbt-1 well, $6.33{\times}10^{-6}$ m/sec in sbt-2 well, and $3.72{\times}10^{-5}$ m/sec in sbt-3 well. Average specific storage coefficient for slug/bail tests were estimated to be 0.0225 in sbt-1 well, 0.0177 in sbt-2 well, and 0.0259 in sbt-3 well. Dimensionless time and dimensionless wellbore storage were estimated by use of transmissivity, storativity, test time, and specification of test wells. And, dimensionless drawdown were selected by parameter ${\alpha}\;and\;{\beta}$ parameter from Cooper et al. (1967). Radius of influence were estimated by estimated dimensionless time, dimensionless wellbore storage, and dimensionless drawdown. The average radius of influnce for slug/bail tests were estimated to be 1.377 m in sbt-1 well, 1.253 m in sbt-2 well, and 1.558 m in sbt-3 well. Pore volume at groundwater level drawdown zone by dummy withdrawal for bail tests were estimated to be $145,636cm^3$ in sbt-1 well, $71,561cm^3$ in sbt-2 well, and $100,418cm^3$ in sbt-3 well. Pore volume excepted well volume at groundwater level drawdown zone by dummy withdrawal for bail tests were estimated to be $145,410cm^3$ in sbt-1 well, $71,353cm^3$ in sbt-2 well, and $100,192cm^3$ in sbt-3 well.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the post-thawed survivability of bovine embryo depending on different dose of ethylene glycol and sucrose. Ovaries were collected at local slaughterhouse and the cumulus-oocyte-complexes aspirated from ovaries were in vitro matured, fertilized and cultured at 39°C in an atmosphere of 5% CO2 incubator. For conventional slow-freezing, d 7 or 8 expanded blastocysts were collected. Embryos were equilibrated in 1.5 M and 1.8 M ethylene glycol(EG) with 0.1 M and 0.3 M sucrose in Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered saline(D-PBS) supplemented with 0.5% bovine serum albumin. Embryos were then loaded individually into 0.25ml-straw and placed directly into cooling chamber of programmable freezer precooled to 7°C, after 2 min, the straw was seeded, maintained at 7°C for 8 min, and then cooled to 35°C at 0.3°C/min, plunged and stored in liquid nitrogen for at least 3 days. For thawing, the straw containing embryos were warmed in air for 10 sec and exposed to 37°C water for 20 sec. Straws were then removed from 37°C water. Rates of blastocyst survive and hatching were evaluated at 24 to 72 h post-warming. No difference of the survivability was shown between 1.5 M and 1.8 M EG (71 and 70%, respectively). Addition of 0.1 M sucrose to 1.5 M and 1.8 M ethylene glycol in the freezing solution did not differ significantly embryo survival (74 and 77%, respectively), whereas survival rates was higher(89%) in freezing solution contained 0.3M sucrose to 1.8M EG compared with 0.3M sucrose to 1.5M EG group(71%). However, there was no difference in the overall total cell number between the two groups (122±1.8 vs 131±1.4, respectively). In conclusion, the results suggest that 0.3 M sucrose in 1.8 M EG may be optimal condition for freezing and thawing methods with in vitro produced embryos and may be applied to on-farm conditions for embryo transfer.
Antioxidants and antioxidants with somatic cell co-culture, bovine oviduct epithelial cells(BOEC) and buffalo rat liver cells(BRLC), were studied as a mean of increasing the development and intracellular glutathione(GSH) concnetrations of bovine embryos derived from in vitro matured(IVM) and in vitro fertilized(IVF) oocytes. Cell numbers and intracellular GSH concentrations of blastocysts were also counted. The developmental rate beyond morula stages in CRlaa containing taurine(2.5mM), superoxide dismutase(SOD, 600U) and catalase(250U) were 1%, 75.0%, 64.8% and 62.3%, respectively. The developmental rate in antioxidant groups was significantly higher than in control(P<0.05). The intracellular GSH concentrations of blastocysts cultured in 0, 2.5mM taurine, 600U SOD and 250U catalase were 33.8pM, 39.3pM, 42.3pM and 54.8pM, respectively. This result indicated that the developmental rates and intracellular GSH concentrations of catalase group was significantly higher than any other groups(P<0.05). The developmental capacity in CRlaa plus various antioxidants co-cultured with BOEC were 55.3%(control), 74.1%(2.5mM taurine), 66.7%(600U SOD) and 70.7%(250U catalase) and in CRlaa plus various antioxidants co-cultured with BRLC in control, 2.5mM taurine, 600U SOD and 250U catalase were 63.8%, 75.5%, 71.0% and 73.5%, respectveily, the intracellular GSH concentrations of blastocyst embryos co-cultured with BOEC and BRLC in CRlaa with 0.25mM taurine, 600U SOD and 250U catalase were 73.4pM and 64.4pM, 79.9pM and 67.5pM, 82.3pM and 71.7pM, and 83.0pM and 80.0pM, respectively. Cell numbers of blastocysts were not difference in all experimental groups. These studies indicate that andtioxidants and antioxidant with somatic cell co-culture can increase the proportion of embryo that developed into morula and blastocysts, and the intracellular GSH concentrations of blastocyst embryos.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of magnesium concentrations in fertilizer solution on growth and cut flower quality of chrysanthemum 'Biarritz'. The nutrient concentrations in plant tissue and soil solution of root media were also determined. Magnesium deficiency appeared on older leaves with interveinal yellow-green chlorosis. Marginal chlorosis and necrosis also developed on some of older leaves. Elevation of Mg concentration in fertilizer solution increased cut flower weight at harvesting stage resulting in the 8.84g in 1.5mM treatment. Dry weight of whole above ground plant tissue increased as Mg concentrations in fertilizer solution were elevated within the range from 0 to 15mM, but that of 20mM decreased compared to 15mM treatment. The dry weight of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5mM treatments were 8.42, 8.75 and 8.848 and tissue Mg contents of those based on the youngest fully expanded leaves at harvesting stage were 0.34, 0.53 and $0.71\%$, respectively. Based on dry weight and tissue Mg contents, Mg fertilization to maintain tissue contents higher than $0.64\%$ is necessary to ensure flower quality and yield. By considering the concentration in 15mM treatment, Mg concentration in soil solution of root media should be higher than $3.68mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ at harvesting stage.
Amino acids are fundamental nutrients for protein synthesis and cell growth (increase in cell size). Recently, many compelling evidences have shown that the level of amino acids is sensed by extra- or intra-cellular amino acids sensor(s) and regulates protein synthesis/degradation. Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) is placed in a central position in cell growth regulation and dysregulation of mTOR signaling pathway has been implicated in many serious human diseases including cancer, diabetes, and tissue hypertrophy. Although amino acids are the most potent activator of mTORC1, how amino acids activate mTOR signaling pathway is still largely unknown. This is partly because of the diversity of amino acids themselves including structure and metabolism. In this review, current proposed amino acid sensing mechanisms to regulate mTORC1 and the evidences pro/against the proposed models are discussed.
The corelation between the indoor volume and the measured radon concentration has been analyzed by comparing the radon concentration and the indoor volume of apartment rooms in Jeonju City. We also measured the annual exposure dose based on the variation in indoor radon concentration over time. To do this, we took 8 larger rooms and 8 smaller rooms of apartment, respectively, as a sample. The average volume of the larger rooms and that of the smaller rooms were $31.59\;m^3$ and $16.82\;m^3$, respectively. The average radon concentration of the larger rooms and that of the smaller rooms turned out to be $71.73\;Bq/m^3$ and $108.51\;Eq/m^3$, respectively. indicating that indoor volume is in inverse proportion to the radon concentration, i.e., the bigger the ratio of the surface area/volume, the higher the indoor radon concentration. From the measurement of the variation in indoor radon concentration over time fur a single day, the average intraday radon concentration variation was found to be about $46.8\;Bq/m^3$. The highest level of concentration ($114.5\;Bq/m^3$) was measured between 8 and 10 AM and the lowest level of concentration ($67.7\;Bq/m^3$) between 2 and 4 PM. The annual exposure dose turned out to be in the range of 0.3 mSv/yr to 2.16 mSv/yr, showing that the dose in some apartments exceeded 1.3 mSv/yr, the numerical value presented by the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR).

Vegetation phenology is the most important indicator of ecosystem response to climate change. Therefore it is necessary to continuously monitor forest phenology. This paper analyzes the phenological characteristics of forests in South Korea using the MODIS vegetation index with error from clouds or other sources removed using the HANTS algorithm. After using the HANTS algorithm to reduce the noise of the satellite-based vegetation index data, we were able to confirm that phenological transition dates varied strongly with altitudinal gradients. The dates of the start of the growing season, end of the growing season and the length of the growing season were estimated to vary by +0.71day/100m, -1.33day/100m and -2.04day/100m in needleleaf forests, +1.50day/100m, -1.54day/100m and -3.04day/100m in broadleaf forests, +1.39day/100m, -2.04day/100m and -3.43day/100m in mixed forests. We found a linear pattern of variation in response to altitudinal gradients that was related to air temperature. We also found that broadleaf forests are more sensitive to temperature changes compared to needleleaf forests.
The salt accumulation, and chemical properties of 90 samples of the plastic film house soil in the area of Cheongju and Chungju were surveyed. Soil textural distribution of soil samples was 30% for sandy loam, 27% for loam and 43% for silty loam. Percentage distribution of electrical conductivity(EC) of surface soil was 23% below $2dS\;m^{-1}$, 30% for $2{\sim}4dS\;m^{-1}$, 25% for $4{\sim}6dS\;m^{-1}$ and 22% over $6dS\;m^{-1}$. Salt affected soil, which EC was higher than $4dS\;m^{-1}$, covered nearly 50% of all field surveyed. However subsoils(20~30cm) below $2dS\;m^{-1}$ was 68%. Salts in plastic film house soil was accumulated by increasing the cultivation period. After 5 years of cultivation electrical conductivity in plastic house soil was generally higher than $4.47dS\;m^{-1}$ in EC that was 2.8~5.6 times higher than that in the field soil in the outside of plastic film house. As the result of temporary removal of plastic film cover from the house during the rainy summer season, salt content in soil was decreased from $3.54{\sim}7.36dS\;m^{-1}$ to $0.71{\sim}2.92dS\;m^{-1}$ in EC due to the desalinization by runoff and percolating water. Contents of $NO_3-N$, $SO_4-S$ and Cl in plastic film house soil were 2.5. 7.0 and 3.4 times higher than those of open field respectively.

This study examined effects of the wall thermal conductivity coefficients on the thermal fluid phenomenon of a compartment fire. The reduced scale compartment was 0.4 m in width, 0.6 m in length and 0.6 m in height with a fire-board, which has a thermal conductivity coefficient of $0.18W/m{\cdot}K$. The local temperature at a 0.37 m height and the overall heat release rate were measured under the following experiment conditions: a $0.12m^2$ opening area and $0.01m^2$ pool size of a gasoline fire. The numerical results obtained by the Fire Dynamic Simulation were compared with the experimentally measured temperature. The deviations were within 10 % in the period of the steady state for maximum heat release rate (4.8 kW). The numerical results show that the average temperature of the compartment wall decreases by approximately 71 % with increasing thermal conductivity coefficient from $0.1W/m{\cdot}K$ to $100.0W/m{\cdot}K$ on the fixed heat release rate.

Net production, dead material increments were measured, and annual respiration loss was simulated through a year to determine the gross production at the Phragmites longivalvis, Carex scabrifolia and Zoysia sinica stand on Okryudeung, a sand bar of the Nagdong river estuary. The maximum live biomass for above-ground organs of the three stands occured in October, i.e., 1, 985, 744 and 1, 013g/m2, and belowground net productions were estimated to be 650, 440 and 412g/m2, respectively. Materials died or shedding from live aboveground organs during the growth season were estimated to be 167, 81 and 0 g/$m^2$. From the results of simulation, annual variation of respiratiion was primarily dependent on the annual variation of temperature through a year. For annual respiration loss in three stands, 21.893, 6.147 and 5.036kg $CO_2/m^2$ were calculated, respectively. Corresponding gross productions were 72, 203, 22, 109 and 19, 909kcal/$m^2$. Respiration of belowground organs corresponded to 65%, 66% and 37% of the total plant respiration, and annual respiration loss accounted for 85%, 78% and 71% of the annual gross production. In view of efficiency of solar energy utilization, 5.8%, 1.8% and 1.6% of incident light energy were converted to gross production of plants during a year. With incident light energy during the growth season from April to September, energy utilizations for net production were estimated to be 1.2%, 0.4% and 0.6% at the three stands.
