We studied the concentrations of $PM_{10}$ and heavy metal in the incinerators around Dong-hae from December 2003 to April 2004. The seasonal mean of $PM_{10}$ concentration was less than the value of environmental standard, the lowest ($36.59mg/m^3$) in spring and the highest ($78.54mg/m^3$) in fall. The measured seasonal heavy metals were Fe $503,44ng/m^3$, Mg $410.85ng/m^3$, Na $134.14ng/m^3$, Zn $24.58ng/m^3$ in spring and Na $315.29ng/m^3$, Mg $48.36ng/m^3$, Fe $44.78ng/m^3$, Zn $23.34ng/m^3$ in summer and Na $88.53ng/m^3$, Fe $33.80ng/m^3$, Zn $20,43ng/m^3$, Pb $6.16ng/m^3$ in fall and Na $4603.72ng/m^3$, Fe $575,26ng/m^3$, Al $411.01ng/m^3$, Cr $203.51ng/m^3$ in winter. The relationship between measured metals concentrations showed that Na and Fe were associated with natural sources such as soil. Pb, Cr and Zn were strongly related to urban anthropogenic sources such as fuel combustion.
Effects of silicon application on development of colonies of Sphaerotheca fuliginea were examined. Cucumber plants were applied with nutrient solutions amended with different concentrations of soluble silicon and selected leaves were inoculated with known concentrations of conidia of the pathogen. Colony number per leaf, colony area per leaf, and germination rate of conidia of S. fuliginea collected from the inoculated leaves were reduced as silicate concentrations in the nutrient solutions increased from 0.05 to 4.10 mM. The increase in resistance of plants to mildew infection was apparently due to silicate accumulation in leaves, and there was no correlation between cation or ionic strength effects and the silicate treatments. Silicate treatment in growth medium remarkably suppressed powdery mildew development on cucumber. Colonies of mildew fungus were visible with over approx. 38.3% of the mature leaf surface, while that of the leaves in high Si plants was 2.3% observed at 51 days after transplanting. No significant differences were observed between 1.7 mM and 3.4mM silicate treatments. Conidial germination rates were significantly reduced by increasing Si amendments. Conidial germination ranged from 14.7 to 20.3% for plants grown in low Si solution(<1.40 mM), and from 9.0 to 12.4% for plants grown in high Si solution(>1.8 mM). Foliar applications of Si with ${\geq}$ 17.0 mM decreased the number of powdery mildew colonies. Persistence of Si foliar sprays effects on cucumber demonstrated that the 17 mM Si spray applied 4 days before inoculation with S. fuliginea reduced mildew colony formation. The relationship was positive and linear.
In this paper, the kinetics of a cloned special glucosidase, named ginsenosidase type III hydrolyzing 3-O-glucoside of multi-protopanaxadiol (PPD)-type ginsenosides, were investigated. The gene (bgpA) encoding this enzyme was cloned from a Terrabacter ginsenosidimutans strain and then expressed in E. coli cells. Ginsenosidase type III was able to hydrolyze 3-O-glucoside of multi-PPD-type ginsenosides. For instance, it was able to hydrolyze the 3-O-${\beta}$-D-(1${\rightarrow}$2)-glucopyranosyl of Rb1 to gypenoside XVII, and then to further hydrolyze the 3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl of gypenoside XVII to gypenoside LXXV. Similarly, the enzyme could hydrolyze the glucopyranosyls linked to the 3-O-position of Rb2, Rc, Rd, Rb3, and Rg3. With a larger enzyme reaction $K_m$ value, there was a slower enzyme reaction speed; and the larger the enzyme reaction $V_{max}$ value, the faster the enzyme reaction speed was. The $K_m$ values from small to large were 3.85 mM for Rc, 4.08 mM for Rb1, 8.85 mM for Rb3, 9.09 mM for Rb2, 9.70 mM for Rg3(S), 11.4 mM for Rd and 12.9 mM for F2; and $V_{max}$ value from large to small was 23.2 mM/h for Rc, 16.6 mM/h for Rb1, 14.6 mM/h for Rb3, 14.3 mM/h for Rb2, 1.81mM/h for Rg3(S), 1.40 mM/h for Rd, and 0.41 mM/h for F2. According to the $V_{max}$ and $K_m$ values of the ginsenosidase type III, the hydrolysis speed of these substrates by the enzyme was Rc>Rb1>Rb3>Rb2>Rg3(S)>Rd>F2 in order.

The pollen morphology of 7 taxa, 3 genera of Buxaceae growing in Korea was investigated by means of light(LM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results were as follows ; 1. A key to the genera of Buxaceae on the basis of pollen morphology was provided. 2. Pollen Length that Buxus was $21.9{\mu}m-28.3{\mu}m$, Pachysaradra was $34.9{\mu}m-43.0{\mu}m$ and Sarcococa was $27.2{\mu}m-39.6{\mu}m$ and that muri width and length were $0.3{\mu}m-4.6{\mu}m$, $0.9{\mu}m-4.3{\mu}m$, and that Lumen length was $0.4{\mu}m-2.4{\mu}m$. 3. Sculpture patterns were reticulate (Buxus) and chain shape (Sarcococa and Pachysandra). 4. Aperture type was polyforate.
In order to evaluate the cytotoxicity of lead in cultures of Balb/c mouse 3T3 cell line, various cytotoxic assays were carried out after expose cells to various concentrations of lead nitrate. Cytotoxic assays using this study were included NR assay, MTT assay, measurement of LDH and protein, synthetic rate of DNA and UDS. Intrace!!ular Ca$^{2+}$ level was also measured. Light and electron microscopic studies were done for morphological changes of lead-treated cell cultures. The results were as follows; 1. The absorbances of NR and MTT were decreased dose-dependently, and NR, and MTT, values of lead nitrate were 3.4 mM and 1.5 mM, respectively. 2. Amount of LDH released into the medium was increased in dose-dependently and LDH activity at 5 mM concentration of lead nitrate was increased to 335 % of control. 3. Amount of total protein was decreased dose-dependently, and which was half of control at 2 mM concentration of lead nitrate. 4. The synthetic rate of DNA was decreased dose-dependently, and also which was remarkably decreased at 3 mM and 5 mM concentrations of lead nitrate. 5. The synthetic rate of UDS was increased at 1 mM concentration of lead nitrate, but which was remarkably decreased at 3 mM and 5 mM concentrations of lead nitrate. 6. Intrace!lular Ca$^{2+}$ level was remarkably increased at 1 mM concentration of lead nitrate, compared with control. 7. In light microscopy, number of cells and processes were decreased according to the increase of dosage of lead nitrate. Electron microscopic findings showed that many vacuoles and cisternal dilatation of rough endoplasmic reticulum were seen in the cytoplasm at 1 mM concentration of lead nittale. From the above results, high dosage treatment of lead nitrate (>3 mM) damaged genetic malerials and it also showed cytotoxicity in mouse 3T3 cell line cultures by injury of cell organelles and Ca$^{2+}$ channel.
This study was conducted to examine the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities of medicinal fruit extracts (Corni fructus, Schizandra chinensis, Rubus coreanus Miquel and Lycii folium) with different extraction mixing ratios (MS, an equal ratio of the medicinal fruit = 1.25:1.25:1.25:1.25; M1, 2:1:1:1; M2, 1:2:1:1; M3, 1:1:2:1 and M4, 1:1:1:2) from medicinal fruit. pH, sugar content and acidity of the extracts were 3.22~3.52, $3.20{\sim}4.20^{\circ}Brix$ and 3.60~5.85%, respectively. The extraction yield of M2 (42.33%) was higher than those of MS (36.03%), M1 (40.40%), M3 (32.53%) and M4 (35.90%). The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of M3 were 14.54 g/100 g and 5.65 g/100 g, respectively. The DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities of M3 at $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ were 86.09% and 90.49%, respectively. The ferric-reducing antioxidant power and the reducing power of M3 at $250{\sim}1,000{\mu}g/mL$ were $0.36{\sim}0.86{\mu}M$ and 0.21~0.96, respectively. The antioxidant activities of M3 were significantly higher than those of the other extracts. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that medicinal fruit extracts had potential as a functional material.
Hydrocarbon solution of $(PPh_3)_2(CO)MOSO_2CF_3$ (M= Rh, Ir) reacts rapidly with 1,4-dicyanobenzene or 1,4-dicyano-2-butene to yield dinuclear metal complexes $[(PPh_3)_2(CO)M({\mu}-dicyanobenzene)M(CO)(PPh_3)_2](SO_3CF_3)_2$ (I: M = Rh; II: M = Ir) or $[(PPh_3)_2(CO)M({\mu}-dicyano-2-benzene)M(CO)(PPh_3)_2](SO_3CF_3)_2$ (III: M = Rh; IV: M = Ir), respectively. Compounds I, II, III, and IV were characterized by $^1H$-NMR, $^{31}P$-NMR, and infrared spectrum. Dichloromethane solution of II and IV reacts with $H_2\;and\;I_2$ to yield oxidative addition complexes $[(PPh_3)_2(CO)IrX_2({\mu}-E)X_2Ir(CO)(PPh_3)_2](SO_3CF_3)_2$ (V; E = 1,4-dicyanobenzene, $X_2$ = $H_2$; VI : E = 1,4-dicyano-2-butene, $X_2$ = $H_2$; VII; E = 1,4-dicyanobenzene, $X_2$ = $I_2$). All metal complexes are bridged by the cyanide groups. Compounds Ⅴ, Ⅵ, and Ⅶ are characterized by conventional methods.
We define injective and projective representations of a quiver $Q={\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}$. Then we show that a representation $M_1\longrightarrow[50]^{f1}M_2\longrightarrow[50]^{f2}M_3$ of a quiver $Q={\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}$ is projective if and only if each $M_1,\;M_2,\;M_3$ is projective left R-module and $f_1(M_1)$ is a summand of $M_2$ and $f_2(M_2)$ is a summand of $M_3$. And we show that a representation $M_1\longrightarrow[50]^{f1}M_2\longrightarrow[50]^{f2}M_3$ of a quiver $Q={\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}{\rightarrow}{\bullet}$ is injective if and only if each $M_1,\;M_2,\;M_3$ is injective left R-module and $ker(f_1)$ is a summand of $M_1$ and $ker(f_2)$ is a summand of $M_2$.
