In the recent years, due to long-lasting heavy rainfall events, a large number of landslides have been observed in the mountainous area of the world. Such landslides can also form a dam as it blocks the course of a river, which may burst and cause a catastrophic flood. Numerical analysis of landslide dam formation is rarely available, while laboratory experimental studies often use assumed shape to analyze the landslide dam failure and flood hydraulics in downstream. In this study, both experimental and numerical studies have been carried out to investigate the formation of landslide dam. Two case laboratory experiments were conducted in two flumes simultaneously. The first flume (2.0 m 0.6 m 0.5 m) was set at $22^{\circ}$ and $27^{\circ}$ slope to generate the landslide using rainfall intensity of 70.0 mm/hr. On the other hand, the second flume (1.5 m 0.25 m 0.3 m) was set perpendicularly at the downstream end of the first flume to receive the landslide mass forming landslide dam. The formation of landslide dam was observed at $15^{\circ}$ slope of the second flume. The whole processes including the landslide initiation and movement of the landslide mass into the second channel was captured by three digital cameras. In numerical analysis, a two-dimensional (2D) seepage flow model, a 2D slope stability model (Spencer method) and a 2D landslide dam-geometry evaluation model were coupled as a single unit. This developed model can determine the landslide occurrence time, the failure mass and the geometry of landslide dam deposited in the second channel. The data obtained from numerical simulation results has good agreement with the experimental measurements.

In Korea, where 64% of the soil is mountainous, typhoons and local rains concentrated in the summer season are frequent in mountainous disasters such as landslides and debris flow. The area of study was the area where the damage to the debris flow was caused by typhoon Mitag in October 2019, and all the houses located in the downstream area were damaged. In this study, numerical simulations were conducted on the area where the damage of earth and stone flow occurred using Hyper KANAKO model that can consider erosion and sedimentation, and the applicability of the model was examined by comparing the actual damage area and the analysis results of the model. As a result of the numerical simulation, the damage area of the debris flow in the target area was 53,875 m2, the maximum flow depth was 2.4 m, and the average flow depth was 1.7 m.

In the environment of Internet of Things (IoT), IoT devices are limited by physical components such as power supply and memory, and also limited to their network performance in bandwidth, wireless channel, throughput, payload, etc. Despite these limitations, resources of IoT devices are shared with other IoT devices. Especially, remote management of the information of devices and patients are very important for the IoT healthcare service, moreover, providing the interoperability between the healthcare device and healthcare platform is essential. To meet these requirements, format of the message and the expressions for the data information and data transmission need to comply with suitable international standards for the IoT environment. However, the ISO/IEEE 11073 PHD (Personal Healthcare Device) standards, the existing international standards for the transmission of health informatics, does not consider the IoT environment, and therefore it is difficult to be applied for the IoT healthcare service. For this matter, we have designed and implemented the IoT healthcare system by applying the oneM2M, standards for the Internet of Things, and ISO/IEEE 11073 DIM (Domain Information Model), standards for the transmission of health informatics. For the implementation, the OM2M platform, which is based on the oneM2M standards, has been used. To evaluate the efficiency of transfer syntaxes between the healthcare device and OM2M platform, we have implemented comparative performance evaluation between HTTP and CoAP, and also between XML and JSON by comparing the packet size and number of packets in one transaction.
We present the latest results from the Mission Program NIRLT (PI: I.Yamamura), the near-infrared spectroscopy of brown dwarfs using the AKARI/IRC grism mode with the spectral resolution of ~ 120. The near-infrared spectra in the wavelength range between 2.5 and $5.0{\mu}m$ are especially important to study the brown dwarf atmospheres because of the presence of major molecular bands, including $CH_4$ at $3.3{\mu}m$, $CO_2$ at $4.2{\mu}m$, CO at $4.6{\mu}m$, and $H_2O$ around $2.7{\mu}m$. We observed 27 sources, and obtained 16 good spectra. Our model fitting reveals deviations between theoretical model and observed spectra in this wavelength range, which may be attributed to the physical condition of the upper atmosphere. The deviations indicate additional heating, which we hypothesize to be due to chromospheric activity. We test this effect by modifying the brown dwarf atmosphere model to artificially increase the temperature of the upper atmosphere, and compare the revised model with observed spectra of early- to mid-L type objects with $H{\alpha}$ emission. We find that the chemical structure of the atmosphere changes dramatically, and the heating model spectra of early-type brown dwarfs can be considerably improved to match the observed spectra. Our result suggests that chromospheric activity is essential to understand early-type brown dwarf atmospheres.

In this study, flow boiling experiments were performed using R-134a on a plain tube bundle. Tests were conducted for the following range of variables; quality from 0.1 to 0.9, mass flux from $8\;kg/m^2s$ to $26\;kg/m^2s$ and heat flux from $10\;kW/m^2s$ to $40\;kW/m^2s$. The heat transfer coefficients were strongly dependent on the heat flux. However, they were almost independent on the mass flux or quality. The data are compared with the modified Chen model, which satisfactorily () predicted the data. Original Chen model, however, did not adequately predict the effect of quality. The reason may be attributed to the flow pattern of the present test, where the bubbly flow prevailed for the entire test range. The heat transfer coefficients of the tube bundle were 6~40% higher than those of the single tube pool boiling.

In this study, three parameters (Pressure ($X_1$), Airflow rate ($X_2$), Operation time ($X_3$)) were experimentally designed and the predicted model and optimal conditions were established by using the terminal rise velocity of the microbubbles as the response value. The polynomial regression analysis showed that the optimum value for the terminal rise velocity at the Pressure ($X_1$) of 4.5 bar, Airflow rate ($X_2$) of 3.3 L/min and Operation time ($X_3$) of 2.2 min was 5.14 cm/min ($85.7{\mu}m/sec$). Also, the highest microbubble diameter size distribution in the range of 2 to $5{\mu}m$ and 25 to $50{\mu}m$ was confirmed by using a laser particle counting apparatus.
Objectives : The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of Sohaphyang-won (SH) on the alteration in gene expression in a hypoxia model using cultured rat cortical cells. Methods : E18 rat cortical cells were grown in neurobasal medium containing B27 supplement. On 12 DIV, SH was added ($20\mu\textrm{g}/ml$) to the culture media for 24 hrs. On 14 DIV, cells were given a hypoxic insult (2% O2/5% CO2, $37^{\circ}C$, 3 hrs), returned to normoxia and cultured for another 24 hrs. Total RNA was prepared from SH-untreated (control) and -treated cultures and alteration in gene expression was analyzed by microarray using rat 5K-TwinChips. Results : Effects on some of the genes whose functions are implicated in neural viability are as follows: 1) For most of the genes altered in expression, the global M values were between -05 to +0.5, Among these, 1517 genes were increased in their expression by more than global M +0.1, while 1480 genes were decreased by more than global M -0.1. 2) The expression of apoptosis-related genes such as Bad (global M =0.35), tumor protein p53 (T53) (global M =0.28) were increased, while v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 1 (Akt1) was decreased. 3) The expression of hemoglobin alpha 1 (probably neuroglobin) was increased by about 3.2-fold (global M =1.7). 4) The expression of antioxidation-related catalase gene was increased (global M =0.26). 5) The expression of PKCzeta (prkcz), an upstream kinase of MAPK, was increased (global M =0.29). 6) The expression of retinoic acid receptor alpha (RAR), which may regulate transcription in hypoxic stress, was increased (global M =10.27). Conclusions : In summary, the microarray data suggest that SH doesn't increase the expression of oxygen capture-, anti-oxidation- and 'response to stress' -related genes but decreases some anti-apoptosis genes which would help protect the hypoxic cells from apoptosis.

The application of a two-dimensional $M_2$ nonlinear tidal model to southern part of Kyonggi Bay is described. It has provided a preliminary assessment of tidal currents, bottom stress, energy dissipation in the Bay. Further numerical experiments have been performed with the model to determine the effect of deepening the approach channel to Asan Bay on the $M_2$ tide and on the response of Bay system to a stationary northwesterly wind stress field of $10dyne/cm^2$ suddenly imposed on thesea surface. Some of preliminary results are presented and discussed.

This study aims to investigate the effect of partially distributed loads on the static behavior of parabolic arches by using the elastic-plastic finite element model. For this purpose, the vertical, the radial, and the anti-symmetric load cases are considered, and the ratio of loading range and arch span is increased from 20% to 100%. Also, the elastic-visco-plastic analysis has been carried out to estimate the elapse time to reach the stable state of arches when the ultimate load obtained by the finite element analysis is applied. It is noted that the ultimate load carrying capacities of parabolic arches are 6.929 tf/$m^2$ for the radial load case, and 8.057 tf/$m^2$ for the vertical load case. On the other hand, the ultimate load is drastically reduced as 2.659 tf/$m^2$ for the anti-symmetric load case. It is also shown that the maximum ultimate load occurs at the full ranging distributed load, however, the minimum ultimate loads of the radial and vortical load cases are obtained by 2.336 tf/$m^2$, 2.256 tf/$m^2$, respectively, when the partially distributed load is applied at the 40% range of full arch span.
This study aimed to generate a probability distribution model based on temperature data of frozen food storage facility as input variables for microbial risk assessment (MRA). We visited 8 food-handling businesses to collect temperature data from their cold storage warehouses. The overall mean temperature inside the storage facilities was $-20.48{\pm}3.08^{\circ}C$, with 20.4% of the facilities having above $-18^{\circ}C$, with minimum and maximum temperature values of -10.3 and $-25.80^{\circ}C$ respectively. Temperature distributions by space locations of natural and forced convection were $-22.57{\pm}0.84$ and $-17.81{\pm}1.47^{\circ}C$, $-22.49{\pm}1.05$ and $-17.94{\pm}1.44^{\circ}C$, and $-22.68{\pm}1.03$ and $-18.08{\pm}1.42^{\circ}C$ in the upper (2.4~4 m), middle (1.5~2.4 m), and lower (0.7~1.5 m) shelves, respectively. Probability distributions from the temperature data were obtained using the program @RISK. Statistical ranking was determined using goodness of fit to determine the probability distribution model. Our results show that a log-normal distribution [5.9731, 3.3483, shift (-26.4281)] is most appropriate for relative MRA conduction.
