  • For domestic application of the temperature gradient model proposed by foreign design standards, a specimen of steel box girder bridge was fabricated with the following dimensions: 2.0 m width, 2.0 m height and 3.0 m length. Temperature was measured using 24 temperature gauges during the summer of 2016. The reliability of the measured data was verified by comparing the measured air temperature with the ambient air temperature of the Korea Meteorological Administration. Of the measured gauges, four temperature gauges that can be compared with the temperature difference of the Euro code were selected and used to analyze the distribution of the measured temperatures at each point. The reference atmospheric temperature for the selection of the maximum temperature difference was determined by considering the standard error. Maximum and minimum temperatures were calculated from the four selected points and the resulting temperature difference was calculated. The model for the temperature difference in the steel box girder bridge was shown by graphing the temperature difference. Compared to the temperature distribution of the Euro code, the presented temperature difference model showed a temperature difference of $0.9^{\circ}C$ at the top and of $0.3^{\circ}$ to $0.4^{\circ}C$ at the intermediate part. These results suggested that the presented model could be considered relatively similar to the Euro code The calculated standard error coefficient was 2.71 to 2.84 times the standard error and represents a range of values. The proposed temperature difference model may be used to generate basic data for calculating the temperature difference in temperature load design.

  • The effects of macronutrients $(NO_3^-,\; NH_4^+\;and\;PO_4^{3-})$ on cell growth and triterpenoids production in Centella asiatica cell suspension cultures were analyzed using the BoxBehnken response surface model experimental design. In screening and optimization experiments, $PO_4^{3-}$ as a single factor significantly influenced cell growth where increasing the phosphate level from 0.1 to 2.4 or 2.6 mM, elevated cell growth from 3.9 to $14\~16g/L$. The optimum values predicted from the response surface model are 5.05mM $NH_4^+$, 15.0mM $NO_3^-$ and 2.6mM $PO_4^{3-}$, yielding 16.0g/L cell dry weight with $99\%$ fitness to the experimental data. While the $NH_4^+-NO_3^-$ interaction influenced cell growth positively in the optimization experiment, $NH_4^+$ and $NO_3^-$ as single factors; and interactions of $NO_3^--PO_4^{3-},\;NH_4^+-PO_4^{3-}$ and $NH_4^+-NO_3^-$ were all negative in the screening experiment. Cell growth and the final pH level were positively affected by $PO_4^{3-}$, but negatively affected by $NH_4^+\;and\;NH_4^+-PO_4^{3-}$ interactions. The different effects of factors and their interactions on cell growth and final pH are influenced by a broad or narrow range of macronutrient concentrations. The productions of triterpenoids however were lower than 4mg/g cell dry weight.

  • Rates of lesion development over time and disease gradients over distance for blast disease on the two rice varieties, Brazos and M-20 1 were significantly affected by two different cultural conditions, upland and flooded conditions. Flooding rice field plots lowered the rates of lesion increase and flattened the disease gradients for both varieties. Despite absence of statistically significant differences in the rate of lesion increase between four sampled distances from infection focus, rate of lesion development tended to be slightly greater as distance from the infection focus increases. Rate of lesion increase was greater with more susceptible variety M-201 than with Brazos. Disease gradient was steeper for M-201 than for Brazos. As blast disease progressed, disease gradients became flattened regardless of variety due to the infections originated from secondary foci. Between two empirical disease gradient models examined, Kiyosawa & Shiyomi model was fitted better over Gregory model. Rates of blast isopath movement under upland conditions were calculated as approximately 0.2m/day and 0.4 m/day for Brazos and M-201, respectively. The results in this study suggest that differences in varietal resistance to blast could be detected by measuring disease gradient as efficiently as by measuring infection rate.

  • The Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) - Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) system was applied to investigate the influence of major point sources located in Chungcheongnam-do (CN) on surface $PM_{2.5}$ (Particulate Matter of which diameter is $2.5{\mu}m$ or less) concentrations in its surrounding areas. Uncertainties associated with contribution estimations were examined through cross-comparison of modeling results using various combinations of model inputs and setups; two meteorological datasets developed with WRF for 2010 and 2014, and two domestic emission inventories for 2010 and 2013 were used to estimate contributions of major point sources in CN. The results show that contributions of major point sources in CN to annual $PM_{2.5}$ concentrations over Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and CN ranged $0.51{\sim}1.63{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.71{\sim}1.62{\mu}g/m^3$, $0.63{\sim}1.66{\mu}g/m^3$, and $1.04{\sim}1.86{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, depending on meteorology and emission inventory choice. It indicates that the contributions over the surrounding areas can be affected by model inputs significantly. Nitrate was the most dominant $PM_{2.5}$ component that was increased by major point sources in CN followed by sulfate, ammonium, and others. Based on the model simulations, it was estimated that primary $PM_{2.5}$ $(PPM)-to-PM_{2.5}$ conversion rates were 41.3~50.7 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 12.4~18.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, respectively. In addition, spatial gradients of PPM contributions show very steep trends. $NO_X$-to-nitrate conversion rates were 7.61~12.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.94~11.3 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the sub-regions in the SMA. $SO_2$-to-sulfate conversion rates were 4.04~5.28 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for CN, and 3.73~4.43 ($10^{-6}{\mu}g/m^3/TPY$) for the SMA, respectively.

  • In this study, the methods of sedimentation reduction for the estuary barrage were analyzed using the CCHE2D bed change model. Especially, the effectiveness of sediment dredging currently applied in the field was evaluated quantitatively and also the channel contraction method which is a substitute method was analyzed for the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage (NREB). The numerical model was calibrated and validated for the sediment transport equations and transport modes. In the NREB case, the Ackers and White formula and bed load type was the most similar to the field condition. As a results of the dredging simulation, there was the sedimentation reduction effect of 0.2 m in the bed changes. Furthermore, the analysis result of the channel contraction method represented that the sedimentation reduction effects of the average 0.4 m and the maximum 2.0 m were produced.

  • Qualified ground control points (GCPs) are required to construct a digital elevation model (DEM) from a pushbroom stereo pair. An inverse geolocation algorithm for extracting GCPs from ERS SAR data and the SRTM DEM was recently developed. However, not all GCPs established by this method are accurate enough for direct application to the geometric correction of pushbroom images such as SPOT, IRS, etc, and thus a method for selecting and removing inaccurate points from the sets of GCPs is needed. In this study, we propose a method for evaluating GCP accuracy and winnowing sets of GCPs through orientation modeling of pushbroom image and validate performance of this method using SPOT stereo pair of Daejon City. It has been found that the statistical distribution of GCP positional errors is approximately Gaussian without bias, and that the residual errors estimated by orientation modeling have a linear relationship with the positional errors. Inaccurate GCPs have large positional errors and can be iteratively eliminated by thresholding the residual errors. Forty-one GCPs were initially extracted for the test, with mean the positional error values of 25.6m, 2.5m and -6.1m in the X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively, and standard deviations of 62.4m, 37.6m and 15.0m. Twenty-one GCPs were eliminated by the proposed method, resulting in the standard deviations of the positional errors of the 20 final GCPs being reduced to 13.9m, 8.5m and 7.5m in the X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively. Orientation modeling of the SPOT stereo pair was performed using the 20 GCPs, and the model was checked against 15 map-based points. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) of the model were 10.4m, 7.1m and 12.1m in X-, Y- and Z-directions, respectively. A SPOT DEM with a 20m ground resolution was successfully constructed using a automatic matching procedure.

  • Geotextile tube is environmentally sustainable technology and has been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering applications. Geotextile tube is composed in permeable fabrics and Inside dredged materials, and hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials. These tube are generally about 1.0m to 2.0m in diameter, through they can be sized for any application. The tubes can be used solely, or stacked to add greater height and usability. Stacked geotextile tubes will create by adding the height necessary for some breakwaters and embankment, therefore increasing the usability of geotextile tubes. This paper presents the hydrodynamic behavior of stacked geotextile tube by hydraulic model tests. The hydraulic model test conducted by structural condition and wave conditions. Structural condition is installation direction to the wave(perpendicular band 45$^{\circ}$), and wave condition is varied with the significant wave height ranging from 3.0m to 6.0m. Based on the test results, the hydrodynamic behaviors such as structural stability, wave control capacity, and strain are interpreted.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a multi-metric Lentic Ecosystem Health Assessment (LEHA) model and apply model to dataset sampled from Daechung Reservoir in September 2005. The metrics were composed of 11 parameters such as physical, chemical and biological variables. The metric attributes of $M_1{\sim}M_8$ followed after the model of biological integrity using fish assemblages that previously adapted in lotic ecosystems, while the metrics of $M_9{\sim}M_{11}$ were added on the basis of literature. The metric of $M_9$ reflected habitat conditions in the littoral zone and the metric of $M_{10}$ reflected chemical conditions of the reservoir. For the application of regression analysis of long-transformed conductivity [$Log_{10}$(Cond)] against $COD_{Mn}$, based on 150 sampling sites at Korean reservoirs, showed that the variation of conductivity was explained 77.4% [$COD_{Mn}=4.42{\times}Log_{10}(Cond)-5.43;\;R^2=0.774$, p<0.01, n=150] by the variation of $COD_{Mn}$. The metric of $M_{11}$ was based on Tropic State Index (TSI), based on chlorophyll-${\alpha}$ concentrations (Chl-${\alpha}$). Analysis of TSI $(Chl-{\alpha})$ showed that above 50 was estimated "1", $40{\sim}50$ was estimated "3" and below 40% was estimated '5'. Overall, velues of LEHA in the reservoir averaged 30.5, indicating a "fair${\sim}$poor condition", which is judged by the criteria of U.S. EPA (1993). More studies such as metric numbers and attributes should be done for the application of the model.
