  • The maneuverabilities of the M. S. PUSAN 402 are studied, based on maneuvering indices and the data obtained from her Z test. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The maneuvering indices K' and T' of the M. S. PUSAN 402 are 1. 490, 1.030 at 10$^{\circ}$ Z test and 2.644, 1.153 at 20$^{\circ}$ Z test and 3.382. 1. 027 at 30$^{\circ}$ Z test respectively. The above calculated values K', T' showed that her maneuverabilities are more increased when the rudder is used to large angle than to smaIl angle. 2. As her maneuvering indices K' and T' at 10$^{\circ}$ Z test are higher than the standard maneuvering indices of fishing boats, her turning ability was found to be higher but her obeying ability lower. 3. When the M. S. PUSAN 402 took a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$ test, running distance was about 8.4 times her own length and didn't exceed the standard maneuvering distance, 5 to 11 times ship's own length, therefore she was considered to have good maneuverabilities syntheticaIly.

  • According to the National Space Program of Korea, KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) has been developing a large space simulator (working dimension; $\Phi8m\;\times\;L10m$) to verify the performance of future large satellites under the space environment conditions. Especially, a very low temperature condition of space will be simulated by shrouds covering the inside surface of the vessel. The surface of shrouds will be cooled down to 17K by liquid nitrogen (LN2) from ambient temperature and hence, an optimal LN2 circulation system design is necessary to remove gaseous nitrogen (GN2) sufficiently and maintain the shrouds at the LN2 temperature.

  • Dengue fever is a vector borne disease caused by a dengue virus. It is an RNA virus of the family flaviviridae, with different serotypes. Herein, we report our attempt to carry out a sensitivity comparison of immunodiagnostic assays for dengue fever in dengue positive patients. Blood samples from 189 volunteers were collected. To determine the sensitivity of the NS1 test, two different types of tests-immunochromatographic tri-line test and rapid dengue test (RDT)-as well as IgM and IgG capture ELISA were performed. The result of RDT has shown that 59.7% of volunteers were IgM positive and 50.2% were IgG positive. Conversely, the results from capture ELISA shows 79.8% and 59.7% for IgM and IgG, respectively. The sensitivity of the capture ELISA test for IgM and IgG was higher than that of immunochromatographic tri-line rapid test, but the specificity was lower. Therefore, to confirm dengue fever, we recommend performing more detailed, investigative tests since a single test may not be sufficient.

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate the shelf-life of Ssanghwa-tang by long-term storage test. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the stability such as the selected physicochemical, pH, identification, heavy metal, microbiological experiment under a long-term storage test of Ssanghwa-tang. The significant change was not showed in pH, heavy metal, microbiological, identification test and quantitative analysis based on long-term storage test. The contents of albiflorin, paeoniflorin, cinnamic acid, liquiritin, and glycyrrhizin in long-term storage test were 66.8-93.1 ${\mu}g/mL$, 429.0-495.0 ${\mu}g/mL$, 3.8-4.4 ${\mu}g/mL$, 32.0-38.1 ${\mu}g/mL$, and 66.8-71.7 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively. Shelf-lifes by 5 compounds about 3 lots at room temperature were predicted 21-37, 14-21, and 16-72 months, respectively. The suggested shelf-life would be helpful on the storage and distribution of herbal medicine.

  • Experimental studies on the water content of muscles and the histological changes of muscles, digestive tract and kidney, influenced by forced oral administration of excessive tap water, were performed by using 10 Korean bulls. Experimental animals were divided into two groups, five heads for test group and five for control group. All of the bulls used in this experiment were weighing between 250 kg and 300 kg and 3 and 4 years of age. In each test animal, a total of 140 litters of tap water was passed in the forestomach by means of catheterization within 12 to 18 hours. And each of them was slaughtered immediately after the animals showing symptoms of respiratory distress. In control group, the animals were allowed to drink tap water normally. From test and control animals after slaughter, each 10 gm of M. biceps femoris, M. satorius, M. adductor, M. gluteous supercialis, M. iliocostalis lumborum, and M. transversus costarum were taken from definite parts in order to measure water content. In the histopathological studies tissues of rumen, reticulum, omasum, abomasum, duodenum, colon and kidney were taken as wall as the above mentioned muscles. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Increase of water content in the muscles of test group were 4.6% in M. satorius, 4.24% in M. transversus costarum, 4.14% in M. gluteous supercialis, 4.02% in M. adductor, 3.88% in M. biceps femoris, and 2.46% in M. iliocostalis lumborum respectively. The highest increase was found in M. satorius and the lowest in M. iliocostalis lumborum. 2. In test animal, average increasing value of water content in muscles was 3.9% and shown highly significant (p<0.01). 3. On the microscopical findings of carcass, marked watery edema was observed all of the subcutaneous tissues and intermuscular connective tissues. 4. Microscopically, the epimysium, perimysium and endomysium were widened, and the muscle fibers were lacerated. The cells of stratum lucidum in the epithelium of rumen and reticulum were shown marked vacuolization. In the kidney, dilatation of Bowman's spaces and proximal tubles was observed.

  • This paper presents an autocorrelation test that is applicable to dynamic panel data models with serially correlated errors. The residual-based GMM t-test is a significance test that is applied after estimating a dynamic model by using the instrumental variable(IV) method and is directly applicable to any other consistently estimated residuals. Monte Carlo simulations show that the t-test has considerably more power than the $m_2$ test or the Sargan test under both forms of serial correlation (i.e., AR(1) and MA(1)).

  • Sero-epidemiological study was carried out to observe the prevalence of brucellosis in 500 slaughtered as well as in 500 healthy animals in Peshawar district of N.W.F.P. All serum samples were subjected to four serological tests i.e. Standard Plate Test (SPT), Standard Tube Test (STT), Rivanol Test (RV) and 2, Mercapto-Ethanol Test (2, ME). The incidence of disease in 500 healthy animals tested by standard plate test, standard tube test, rivanol test and 2, Mercapto-ethanol test, was 2.8%, 1.8%, 1.6% and 1.2% respectively. While the incidence of brucellosis in 500 slaughter animals from Peshawar abattoir was 3.0%, 2.2%, 2.00% and 1.2% by standard plate test, standard tube test, rivanol test and 2, Mercapto-ethanol test The disease prevalence was higher in slaughtered animals as compared to healthy animals. The disease was more common in goats than sheep, also more prevalence in aged female than younger stocks. The efficacy of SPT was found more effective as compared to STT, RV, and 2, ME tests both in slaughtered as well as apparently healthy animals at Peshawar district. Standard Plate test detected 2.9%, Standard Tube test 2.0%, Rivanol test 1.8% and 2, Mercapto-ethanol test detected 1.2% positive cases in slaughtered as well as in healthy animals. So the Standard Plate Test was found to be more reliable, sensitive, and easy to performed.

  • The behaviors of the ground in crossed zone and the existing upper tunnel in shallow cover due to the excavation of new lower tunnel crossed to that was studied. Model test was performed in the large scale test pit, the size was '$4.0m(width){\times}3.8m(height){\times}4.1m(length)$'. Test ground was constructed uniformly by sand in middle density and test with the crossed angle of $56^{\circ}$ (obliquely) were performed. The numerical analysis was performed on equal condition with model test. Results of the study by model test and numerical analysis show that earth pressure and settlement of the ground in crossed zone were redistributed due to the longitudinal arching effect by the excavation of lower tunnel. Model test shows that upper tunnel blocks stress flow due to the longitudinal arching effect by excavation of lower tunnel.

  • Background: Aconitum sinomontanum Nakai (ASN) has been reported to have analgesic effects. In this study an animal model of pharmacopuncture using ASN (100-500 mg/kg) was examined. Methods: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (n = 40) were randomly assigned to ASN-Low (1 mg/mL, 1.8 mL, ASN-L), ASN-Intermediate (5 mg/mL, 1.8 mL, ASN-M), ASN-High (10 mg/mL, 1.8 mL, ASN-H), negative control (0.2 mL normal saline), and positive control (0.2 mL 0.5% lidocaine) groups. All experiments were administered to the rats' left hind leg. The analgesic response was assessed by monitoring the physical (hot plate, and von Frey test) and chemical (formalin) responses to pain. Results: All ASN pharmacopuncture groups demonstrated significant differences in pain response to the hot plate test, von Frey test, and formalin test, compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The response of the ASN-M group and ASN-H groups to the hot plate, the formalin, and the von Frey tests were significantly different, compared to the lidocaine group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: ASN pharmacopuncture had a significant analgesic effect on SD rats in response to physical and chemical models of pain.
