  • In this study, we presented the periodic inspection method of the Certified Missile Round Concepts usuing M&S(Modeling and Simulation) techniques. Firstly, We drew up the scenario from the application concepts and the predicted dormant reliability Secondly, we performed the modeling for a simulation program based on the scenario. Lastly we embodied the simulation program. After comparing and examining the difference between the simulation results and the theoretical estimates, we present the best periodic inspection plan for achieving the probability of success.

  • A modeling and simulation program for an environmental control system (ECS) of a pod installed under wings of an aircraft was developed in order to estimate the system‘s performance during a flight. First, through the system configuration analysis in the main operational condition of the aircraft system, an ECS configuration adopting an air cycle machine (ACM) was selected. Therefore the modeling program was developed to simulate the ECS with an ACM. Second, the sensitivity analyses on performance variation of main components were conducted to complete the conceptual design of the ECS. A design point for the system and its components was obtained through the analysis with the modeling and simulation program. The design point for the system and components was obtained through the analysis with the modeling and simulation program. Third, in order to study the feasibility of the ECS configuration, off-design performances of the ECS on various flight conditions, such as take off, maneuver, cruise and landing etc were estimated. Dynamic characteristics were analyzed by transient performance evaluations.

  • This paper introduces an integrated Modeling & Simulation framework for the efficient development of the rescue robot which rescues a wounded patients or soldiers and disposes a dangerous objects or explosive materials in the battlefields and disastrous environments. An integrated M&S(Modeling & Simulation) framework would have enabled us to perform the dynamic simulation program GAZEBO based Software-in-the-Loop Simulation(SILS) which is to replacing the robot platform hardware with a simulation software. An integrated M&S framework would help us to perform designing robot and performance validation of robot control results more efficiently. Furthermore, Tele-operation performance in the unstructured environments could be improved. We review a case study of applying an integrated M&S framework tool in validating performance of mobility stabilization control, one of the most important control strategy in the rescue robot.

  • The test and evaluation(T&E) of weapon systems is a significant activity in the decision-making process of defense acquisition program, providing the data of trade-off analysis, risk reduction and readiness to advance to next phase of development for the decision-maker. Currently, the modeling and simulation(M&S) is being a critical method in the test and evaluation of weapon systems. Therefore in this paper we review the current status of the test and evaluation for the defense acquisition program in Korea, and suggest an application of M&S in the T&E of weapon systems.

  • This paper presents the neutronics modeling capabilities of the fast reactor simulation system SHARP, which ANL is developing as part of the U.S. DOE's NEAMS program. We discuss the three transport solvers (PN2ND, SN2ND, and MOCFE) implemented in the UNIC code along with the multigroup cross section generation code $MC^2$-3. We describe the solution methods and modeling capabilities, and discuss the improvement needs for each solver, focusing on massively parallel computation. We present the performance test results against various benchmark problems and ZPR-6 and ZPPR critical experiments. We also discuss weak and strong scalability results for the SN2ND solver on the ZPR-6 critical assembly benchmarks.

  • This work addresses a three-dimensional nonlinear structural analysis of the constructive phases of a cable-stayed segmental concrete bridge using The Finite Element Method through ANSYS, version 14.5. New subroutines have been added to ANSYS via its UPF customization tool to implement viscoelastoplastic constitutive equations with cracking capability to model concrete's structural behavior. This numerical implementation allowed the use of three-dimensional twenty-node quadratic elements (SOLID186) with the Element-Embedded Rebar model option (REINF264), conducting to a fast and efficient solution. These advantages are of fundamental importance when large structures, such as bridges, are modeled, since an increasing number of finite elements is demanded. After validating the subroutines, the bridge located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and known as "Ponte do Saber" (Bridge of Knowledge, in Portuguese), has been numerically modeled, simulating each of the constructive phases of the bridge. Additionally, the data obtained numerically is compared with the field data collected from monitoring conducted during the construction of the bridge, showing good agreement.

  • ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute) has joined National GNSS Research Center program of Defense Acquisition Program Administration and Agency for Defense Development in 2010. The research subject is technology for MSAR(Military Search and Rescue) system configuration. In this project, we analyses the ways in order to improve the accuracy, reliability, availability for MSAR system from M&S(Modeling and Simulation). The MSAR System M&S Software can be used for performance analysis of new elements, such as ground elements and satellite elements without any hardware development. In this paper, after introduction of the architecture design and functional scope of the simulator, the performance analysis result for MSAR M&S software is presented.

  • In this study, the flow analysis of fermentation tank, digester and dryer, which are the main equipment in environmental energy facilities, was carried out. Numerical analysis was carried out with the size of the actual plant, and 3D modeling program CATIA V5 R16, grid generation program Gambit, and general purpose flow analysis package ANSYS-FLUENT (v13) were used. Simulation results of the carrier gas flow analysis in the STD dryer using the computational fluid dynamics program showed that the carrier gas smoothly circulated between the shells of the dryer and the flow was uniformly distributed without stagnation or flow. It is also predicted that rotational flow due to shell rotation is active. The average flow velocity of carrier gas in the STD dryer was estimated to be about 0.196m / s, and the average temperature of the carrier gas was calculated to be 424K. Due to the relatively slow carrier gas velocity and high average temperature, the water content of the sludge can be effectively lowered.

  • Exploiting models and simulations are encouraged among the defense acquisition society, as now enforced by the Defense Aquisition Program Administration's regulations. They are useful and, sometimes, inevitable especially in an earlier phase of system development. Computer-simulation-based experimentation technique for the system operational performance analysis for a torpedo defense system is introduced in this paper. Problem definition for the torpedo defense system analysis and engineering efforts for models and simulations development are presented here, including defining measures of performance and effectiveness for the torpedo defense system, conceptual modeling for torpedo engagement and defense simulation, design of experimentation, design of simulator and experimentor, and hardware and software implementation of an analysis support tool - a system operations demonstration and experimentation simulator.

  • A CCFL model for high frequency dimming electronic ballast simulation is presented in this paper. The model can be utilized for an electronic ballast simulation with continuous dimming and transient mode simulation such as step dimming. The piezoelectric transformer Is evaluated using an AC analysis. The electronic ballast composed of piezoelectric transformers and ZVS inverter was implemented. It enables a fluorescent lamp to be fumed on stably. Simulation of a high frequency electronic ballast which operates a fluorescent Imp at high frequency is proposed. Simulation is carried out using PSPICE program to illustrate the performance of the circuit
