  • This paper presents a new sensorless vector control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with non-linearity compensation and disturbance observer. The nonlinear voltage distortion that is caused by commutation delay and on-state voltage drop in switching device is corrected by a new matrix converter modeling. The lumped disturbances such as parameter variation and load disturbance of the system are estimated by the radial basis function network (RBFN). An adaptive observer is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

  • This paper presents a new robust sensorless control system for high performance induction motor drives fed by a matrix converter with variable structure. The lumped disturbances such as parameter variation and load disturbance of the system are estimated by a variable structure approach based on model reference adaptive scheme. A Reduced Order Extended Luenberger Observer(ROELO) is also employed to bring better responses at the low speed operation. Experimental results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed system.

  • Three dimensional cutting is considered as an equivalent orthogonal cutting through the plane containing both the cutting velocity vector and the chip flow velocity vector in dynamic cutting process. An analytical expression of dynamic cutting force is obtained from the cutting parameters determined by the static cutting. Particular attention is paid to the energy supplied to the vibratory system of cutting tool with two degree of freedom. In this approach, the phase lag of the horizontal vibration of the tool behind the vertical vibration and the direction angle of the fluctuating cutting force is considered in point of stability limits. Chatter vibration can be effectively suppressed by relatively increasing the spring constant and the damping coefficient of the cutting system in the vertical cutting force direction. A good agreement is found between the stability limits predicted by theoretical value and experimental results.

  • HSPF is a comprehensive, continuous, lumped parameter, watershed-scale model that simulates the movement of water, sediment, and a wide range of water quality constituents on pervious and impervious surfaces, in soil profiles, and within streams and well-mixed reservoirs. The hydrologic calibration of HSPF is performed manually using the decision-support software Expert System for the Calibration of HSPF (HSPEXP). The initial values for the HSPF hydrologic parameters were estimated based on guidance from BASINS Technical Note 6. Initial parameter values were adjusted for the study watershed during the calibration period within the recommended ranges for the parameters.

  • A lumped parameter model of Li-ion battery in hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) is constructed and system parameters are identified by using recursive least square estimation for different C-rates, SOCs and temperatures. The system characteristics of pole and zero in the frequency domain are analyzed with the parameters obtained from different conditions. The parameterized model of a Li-ion battery indicates highly dependent of temperatures. To estimate SOC and polarization voltage, a Luenberger state observer is utilized. The P- or PI-gains of observer based on a suitable natural frequency and damping ratio is adopted for the state estimation. Satisfactory estimation accuracy of output voltage and SOC is especially obtained by a PI-gain. The feasibility of the proposed estimation method is verified through experiment under the conditions of different C-rates, SOCs and temperatures.

  • Computational modeling is presented to investigate the hemodynamics of coronary circulation for the cardiac arrest model during the operation of an ECLS called T-PLS. A lumped parameter model is utilized to delineate the hemodynamics of coronary circulation. For verification of the present method, we compute the coronary circulation for normal case and compare those results with the existing data. Numerical results on the cardiac arrest model show that T-PLS can increase LAD flow significantly.

  • An analytical study about dynamic behavior of center pivot rocker arm type valve train system equipped with roller of diesel engine is developed. At first, a mathematical model for the dynamic analysis has been set up using the lumped parameter method. In that model, valve spring is divided as some mass elemehts so as to simulate spring surging, Then, how the design parameters, such as valve mass, rocker arm inertia, valve spring stiffness, and initial load on valve spring, affect valve dynamic behavior especially in the valve close area is scrutinized.

  • The spindle motor in a computer hard disk drive can be modeled as a rotor-bearing system supported by the base plate. Ball bearing is the crucial element to determine the stiffness of the spindle motor, and its design parameters and operating conditions determine the dynamic characteristics of the spindle motor. In the analysis of a rotor-bearing system with a short shaft like a spindle motor, the stiffness of the base plate as well as ball bearings must be considered accurately to analyze the dynamic charateristics of a spindle motor. In this paper, the lateral and the axial vibration of the spindle motor were analyzed by the transfer matrix method for the dual-shaft rotor-bearing model and by d.o.f lumped parameter model, respectively. The simulation results had good agreements with the experimental modal testing. The dynamic characteristics were fully investigated for the change of the major design parameters of the spindle motor, i.e. the preload of ball bearings and the rotational speed.

  • The mathematical model of the gear reductioner which consists which consists of the geared rotor-bearing system containing case is developed, assuming as the lumped parameter system. Constraints for vibration suppresion as well as strength of gear teeth, and shaft and kinematic conditions in gear pairs are considered. To find the design parameters satisfing the proposed constraints, a direct search method modified by the technique of Taguchi's experimental scheduling is used. One and two stepped gear reductioners are designed so that the criticl speeds due to the gear transmission error are moved out of the operating speed range.

  • This paper presents vibration minimization of a PMLSM driven feed-slide by using optimized smooth velocity curve with finite jerk. First of all, the PMLSM was designed and made to reduce detent force. Next, a PMLSM driven feed-slide system was mathematically modeled as a 4-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter model. The key idea of our vibration minimization method is to find out the most appropriate smooth velocity(feedrate) curve with finite jerk. The validity of our proposed method has been verified by comparing computer simulation results of the feed-slide model with experimental ones.
