  • After showing 32 inch two-dimensionally integrated fluorescent lamp (TIFL) and its module at SID '04, 40 inch TIFL and its module of prototype have been developed at the first time. It is the biggest size in the world as well as has a backlight unit without BEF optical film. The luminance of TIFL is 14000 nit at 190 watt power consumption and its luminous efficacy is 51 lumen/watt. The use of TIFL simplifies backlight assembly process and removes high price optical sheets. As a result, LCD TV, used by TIFL, is rapidly going to expand its market share in the large size TV area.

A Study on the Application of LED at Ultra-low Temperature (극저온에서 LED 응용에 관한 연구)

  • The interest in development on luminaires which are available up to $-52^{\circ}C$ is surging as demands in vessels navigating a north pole route increase. A conventional incandescent lamp used in vessels is operated stably at $-52^{\circ}C$, but many countries including Korea have eliminated the use of incandescent lamps gradually because of its low luminous efficacy. In this paper, therefore, to develop the LED luminaires with high-efficiency, long lifetime that enables to substitute for incandescent lamp, it has studied about cryogenic characteristics of LED packages, bulbs, driving circuit and power supply. This experiments were carried out according to standards IEC 60945-8.4.1. Temperature range is from $-60^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$, and the light output depending on ambient temperature. It showed that, based on $25^{\circ}C$, light output of a CFL decreased by 80% of CFL at $-20^{\circ}C$ while each increased 12% of LED bulbs and 16~19% of LED packages at $-60^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents dimming control system for automotive 35[W] metal halide discharge(MHD) lamp electronic ballast using digital control method. HID system has been becoming increasingly popular due to its superior performance(high luminous efficacy, good color rendering and long life etc.)over the conventional halogen system. However, this lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state in applying to automotive. Therefore, in this paper, digital control method for the HID lamp ballast is presented for optimal control that can adapt complex transient state, steady state and various environments. In developed dimming system, the system is designed to control the lamp output voltage step by step using microcontroller according to cds sensor. Therefore the designed dimming control system give good driving condition to diver and realize the power control effectively. The results of the proposed system is verified through various simulation results and the experiment results.

An Experimental Study on the a Light Device which Adopt Safety Ultra Constant Dischange Lamp (초정압 방전램프(UCD)를 적용한 안전조명 장치에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the development of various lighting equipment adapting Ultra Constant Discharge Lamp that has newly been on commercial supply in the market. Meeting the required conditions of lighting equipment, various types of UCD Lamp equipment with excellent performances could be successfully developed. In order to provide a guideline for the economical lighting product selection, the analyzed data comparison between Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp which has been the most popular lamp for street lighting and UCD Lamp is provided. The conclusions of the study are made as follows; (1) The performance measurement result of UCD Lamp shows excellent Luminous Efficacy as 108Lm/W, daylight-like Color Rendering Index as 90Ra, and the best operating temperature range as $-50^{\circ}C{\sim}+85^{\circ}C$. Comparing to the Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp, UCD could be evaluated as much superior products. (2) In an assembled status with the lighting fixture (Type STB형-60W), UCD Lamp was tested OK for one hour duration at the temperature range form $-50^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$ and the humidity of 98%. The operation at the extremely low temperature can be an excellent feature to enable the export to the cold temperature regions such as Northern Europe and Russia and the specific applications for defense systems and special industry. (3) As UCD Lamp is a genuine Korea made product following Energy-saving and Eco-friendly policy, it should be appreciated as one of the best $CO^2$ reduction Green product.

  • The high frequency fluorescnet lighting systems are widely used because of their high luminous efficacy. However, the performance of the fluorescnet lamp at high frequency reveals significant changes depending upon operating frequency, lamp shape, lamp voltage and current while adapting either an electronic or an magnetic ballast. Therefore the matching between the fluorescent lamp and the ballast is the major concern in designing a lighting system. In this paper, high frequency characteristics of the FHF32W lamp is measured in a range of frequencies from 12kHz to 50kHz. And we presented a model of a fluorescnet lamp with non-linear impedance depending on the lamp current. Finally, after identifying the operating condition under negative imped¬ance behavior as lamp current changing, we proposed a method of choosing the optimal parameter of a high frequency fluorescnet lamp and the result is analyzed.

Luminescence Characteristics of Mg2+·Ba2+ Co-Doped Sr2SiO4:Eu Yellow Phosphor for Light Emitting Diodes (LED용Mg2+·Ba2+Co-Doped Sr2SiO4:Eu 노란색 형광체의 발광특성)

  • An improvement for the efficiency of the $Sr_{2}SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor under the $450{\sim}470\;nm$ excitation range have been achieved by adding the co-doping element ($Mg^{2+}\;and\;Ba^{2+}$) in the host. White LEDs were fabricated through an integration of an blue (InGaN) chip (${\lambda}_{cm}=450\;nm$) and a blend of two phosphors ($Mg^{2+},\;Ba^{2+}\;co-doped\;Sr_{2}SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor+CaS:Eu red phosphor) in a single package. The InGaN-based two phosphor blends ($Mg^{2+},\;Ba^{2+}\;co-doped\;Sr_{2}SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor+CaS:Eu red phosphor) LEDs showed three bands at 450 nm, 550 nm and 640 nm, respectively. The 450 nm emission band was due to a radiative recombination from an InGaN active layer. This 450 nm emission was used as an optical transition of the $Mg^{2+},\;Ba^{2+}\;co-doped\;Sr_{2}SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor+CaS:Eu red phosphor. As a consequence of a preparation of white LEDs using the $Mg^{2+},\;Ba^{2+}\;co-doped\;Sr_{2}SiO_{4}:Eu$ yellow phosphor+CaS:Eu red phosphor yellow phosphor and CaS:Eu red phosphor, the highest luminescence efficiency was obtained at the 0.03 mol $Ba^{2+}$ concentration. At this time, the white LEDs showed the CCT (5300 K), CRI (89.9) and luminous efficacy (17.34 lm/W).

Study on the method to evaluate performance of Light Collector in Light-collecting System (집광채광 설비 입사부의 성능 평가방법에 관한 연구)

  • 집광채광 설비는 건축물의 조명에너지 절감 및 자연광의 실내 유입을 위해 적용 가능한 태양에너지설비로써 다른 신 재생 에너지 설비와 다르게 연간에너지생산에 대한 정량적 데이터가 아직까지 부재하다. 집광채광 설비의 설치효과를 판단하기 위해서는 집광채광 설비 설치에 따른 연간 에너지생산량 산출이 필요하며, 이를 위해서는 각 구성부분(집광부, 전송부 및 산광부)의 광전송 효율에 대한 데이터가 구축되어야 한다. 본 연구는 집광채광 설비의 효율 분석에 관한 첫 번째 단계로써 외부광속에 대한 집광부 통과 직후의 내부광속의 비율을 예측하였다. 국내에 보급된 집광채광 설비는 대부분 프리즘형과 광덕트형이며, 우선적으로 집광부 입사면의 경사각과 방위각이 다양하여 내부광속 산출방법론이 매우 복잡한 프리즘형을 분석대상으로 삼았다. 전일사량, 외부조도 및 집광부 내부조도가 측정되었으며, 외부광속으로부터 내부광속을 산출하는 공식을 유도하기 위해 천공상태에 따라 전일사량 측정치가 직산분리 되었다. Perez model과 Liu and Jordon에 의해 제시된 계산식과 입사면 및 집광부 면적을 고려하여 수평면 외부조도 측정치로부터 외부광속이 그리고 내부조도로부터 내부광속이 산출되었다. 입사면의 투과율이 동일하다는 전제 하에 천공상태에 따른 태양광 투과 비율을 도출한 결과, 담천공(Kt ${\leq}$ 0.3)에서 0.39, 부분담천공(0.3${\geq}$ 0.78)에서 1.0으로 나타났다. 도출된 투과비율을 외부광속에 적용하여 내부광속을 계산한 결과치와 측정치는 약 ${\pm}9%$ 정도의 차이를 보였다. 연간 기상데이터에 위와 같은 방법론이 적용되면 프리즘형 집광부의 연간 내부광속이 산출될 수 있다. 또한 기존 연구에서 제시된 발광효율 산출식과 일사 파장에 따른 시감도를 고려하면 매 시간별 외부조도도 산출이 가능하다. 일사량 측정치와 외부조도 측정치 사이의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 결정계수 $R^2$이 0.99인데 반해 일사량 측정치와 외부조도 계산치 사이의 상관관계 결정계수는 0.95로 측정치 보다 약간 작은 값을 갖는다. 이렇게 산출된 외부조도는 각 입사면의 면적을 반영하여 외부광속으로 변환되고, 앞서 산출된 천공상태별 투과비율이 적용됨으로써 내부광속이 도출될 수 있다. 이와 같은 집광부에 대한 연구를 바탕으로 향후 전송부와 산광부 효율을 도출하고 궁극적으로 집광채광 설비를 통해 실내에 전달되는 연간 빛에너지를 예측할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 본 연구의 방법론은 다른 형태의 집광채광 설비에도 적용이 가능할 것으로 판단되며, 국내 집광채광 설비의 연간 에너지생산량에 대한 폭 넓은 데이터 구축이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.
