Synthesis, Characterization and Luminescent Properties of Eu-Containing Polyoxometalate

  • Sodium salt of photoluminescent Eu-containing polyoxometalate (Eu-POM) was newly synthesized and its chemical structure and physical properties characterized. The Eu-POM was unstable outside the pH range 5.5-8.5, and a pH just over 7 gave the best yield. We have investigated the photoluminescent properties of Eu-POM with changing the reactants ratio of heteropolytungstate and $EuCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O}$. The Eu-POM was characterized by UV/Vis, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, PL and XPS. Eu-POM emits orange light of 590nm when excited with the light of 280nm. Furthermore, we made dodecyltrimethylammonium (DDTA) salt of Eu-POM (Eu-POM/DDTA) by exchange of the counter cation. The Eu-POM/DDTA is soluble in common organic solvents, while Eu-POM is only soluble in water. And it emits reddish orange light of 625nm when excited with light of 250nm.

  • Light emitting thin film structures based on organic luminophors embedded in porous alumina matrixes are discussing. The optical properties of the luminophors in a matrix differ greatly from their properties in usual crystalline state or in a solution and they depend on the concentration of luminophors molecules of up to 10-2 mol/l. Successful experiments on filling of pores with organic luminophors and the investigation of their luminescent and optical properties were carried out.

  • LED는 고휘도 청색 칩의 개발로 인해 단순표시소자로만 이용되던 것이 다양한 분야의 발광소자로 적용되기 시작하였다. 특히, 최근에 InGaN 칩과 황색 형광체(YAG:Ce3+)를 이용한 방법이 많이 연구되어지고 있다. 하지만 이 방법은 2 파장을 이용한 것으로 색연지수가 낮은 단점을 지니며, 황색의 YAG:Ce3+ 형광체 이외에 450~470 nm의 여기 영역에서 효율적으로 발광하는 형광체가 거의 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 장파장 영역의 여기 특징을 지닌 thiogallate 형광체의 합성을 시도하였다. 그 중에 가장 잘 알려진 SrGa2S4:Eu2+ 형광체의 모체를 변화시켜 Sr2Ga2S5:Eu2+ 형광체를 합성하였으며, 발광특성을 조사하였다. 그리고 무해성과 제조 공정의 단순화를 위하여, 황화물질과 5 % H2/95 % N2 혼합 기체를 CS2와 H2S 가스 대신에 사용하였다. 이렇게 합성되어진 형광체는 550 nm의 발광 중심을 가지는 황색 형광체로서 300~500 nm에 이르는 넓은 여기원을 통한 발광이 가능하다. 그리고 YAG:Ce3+ 형광체와 비교해 볼 때 강도 면에서 110 % 이상을 보이며, UV 영역의 여기적 특성을 이용해 UV LED에도 응용이 가능하다.

Synthesis and photoluminescence of Ca3Si3O8F2: Ce4+, Eu3+, Tb3+ phosphor

  • $Ce^{4+}$, $Eu^{3+}$, $Tb^{3+}$ co-doped $Ca_3Si_3O_8F_2$ phosphor was synthesized via solid state reaction method using $CaF_2$, $CaCO_3$ and $SiO_2$ as raw materials for the host and $Eu_2O_3$, $CeO_2$, and $Tb_4O_7$ as activators. The luminescent properties of the phosphor was analysed by spectrofluorophotometer at room temperature. The effect of excitation wavelengths on the luminescent properties of the phosphor i.e. under near-ultraviolet (nUV) and visible excitations was investigated. The emission peaks of $Ce^{4+}$, $Eu^{3+}$, $Tb^{3+}$ co-doped $Ca_3Si_3O_8F_2$ phosphor lays at 480(blue band), 550(green band) and 611nm (red band) under 380nm excitation wavelength, attributed to the $Ce^{4+}$ ion, $Tb^{3+}$ ion and $Eu^{3+}$ ions respectively. The results reveal that the phosphor emits white light upon nUV (380nm) / visible (465nm) illumination, and a red light upon 395nm / 535nm illumination. RE ions doped $Ca_3Si_3O_8F_2$ is a promising white light phosphor for LEDs. The emission colours can be seen using Commission international de l'eclairage (CIE) co-ordinates. A single host phosphor emitting different colours under different excitations indicates that it is a potential phosphor having applications in many fields.

구형 SiO2@Y2O3: Eu 코어-쉘 복합체 형광체 합성 및 특성 (Synthesis and Characterization of Spherical SiO2@Y2O3 : Eu Core-Shell Composite Phosphors)

  • The monodisperse spherical $SiO_2$ particles were overcoated with $Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor layers via a Pechini sol-gel process and the resulting $SiO_2@Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ core-shell phosphors were subsequently annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ at an ambient atmosphere. The crystallographic structure, morphology, and luminescent property of core-shell structured $SiO_2@Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and photoluminescence (PL). The spherical, nonagglomerated $SiO_2$ particles prepared by a Stober method exhibited a relatively narrow size distribution in the range of 260-300 nm. The thickness of phosphor shell layer in the core-shell particles can be facilely controlled by varying the coating number of $Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphors. The core-shell structured $SiO_2@Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphors showed a strong red emission, which was dominated by the $^5D_0-^7F_2$ transition (610 nm) of $Eu^{3+}$ ion under the ultraviolet excitation (263 nm). The PL emission properties of $SiO_2@Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ phosphors were also compared with pure $Y_2O_3:Eu^{3+}$ nanophosphors.

[Ca1-xSrxAl2O4:Eu2+] 형광체의 상전이 및 발광특성에 관한 연구 (Phase Transformation and Luminescent Properties of Ca1-xSrxAl2O4:Eu2+ Phosphors)

  • The phase transformations and luminescent properties of Eu-doped $Ca_{1-x}Sr_xAl_2O_4$ phosphors were investigated. $Ca_{1-x}Sr_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors were synthesized by a solid-state reaction with a flux, $H_3BO_3$. A phase transformation from monoclinic $CaAl_2O_4$ to monoclinic $SrAl_2O_4$ was observed as the x values increased. A high-temperature hexagonal phase of $SrAl_2O_4$ was formed during this transformation as an intermediate phase under an $H_2$ atmosphere due to oxygen vacancies; this did not occur in an air atmosphere. Accordingly, the emission spectra shifted from a blue region to a green region as x increased.

Scintillating properties of Bi-doped $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$

  • Shaped single crystals of Bi : $Y_3Ga_5O_{12}$(Bi = 0.041, 0.047 and 0.061 mol%) were grown by the micro-pulling-down method. Optical absorption spectra show an absorption band at 288 nm ascribed to the lowest energy $6s^2$ \longrightarrow 6s6p transition of $Bi^{3+}$ , while luminescence spectra demonstrate the band at 314 nm ascribed to the reverse radiative transition of the excited $Bi^{3+}$ centres. At room temperature, dominant decay time component was found to be about 440 ns with a minor slower component 580 ns.

  • [ $SrTiO_3:Al,Pr$ ] red phosphors doped with Y and Er were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The luminescence properties of $SrTiO_3:Al,Pr$ phosphors before and after doping were examined by photoluminescence. Efforts were paid to elucidate the cause of the increase of green luminescence in $(Sr_{0.95}Y_{0.05})TiO_3:Pr,Er\;and\;(Sr_{0.95}Y_{0.05})TiO_3:Pr,Al$ phosphors. The enhanced green luminescence was interpreted by the energy transfer between $Er^{3+}\;and\;Pr^{3+}$ ions, and the change of bandgap in the $(Sr_{0.95}Y_{0.05})TiO_3:Pr$ phosphors.

Effect of $Mg^{2+}$ co-doping on luminescent properties of $ZnGa_2O_4:Mn^{2+}$

  • Zinc gallate, $ZnGa_2O_4:Mn^{2+}$ co-doped with different concentrations of $Mg^{2+}$ (0.001- 0.5 mol%) was prepared by solid state synthesis method. These compositions were investigated for their photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence properties. The optimized composition $Zn_{0.990}Mg_{0.005}Ga_2O_4:Mn_{0.005}$ shows higher luminescence intensity compared to the parent phosphor. The intense green emission peak was found at 504 nm. The $Mg^{2+}$ doping does not affect much the decay time. It remains <10 ms for these compositions which make them potential candidate for application in TV screens.

  • Field emission display (FED) is currently being explored as a potential flat panel display technology. The need of new materials for low voltage blue phosphors for FED focused our attention on the $Y_2O_3-Nb_2O_5$ sys-tem. Yttrium niobate doped with $Bi^{3+}$ was prepared by solid state reaction technique and the optimization of the luminescent properties with a control of $Bi^{3+}$ amounts and Y/Nb ratio was studied. Under 254 nm and low voltage electron excitations $Bi^{3+}-activated$ YNbO4 phosphors showed a strong and relatively narrow blue em-ission band with a range of 420 to 450 nm, Especially 0.4wt% $Bi^{3+}\;doped\;YNbO_4$ phosphors with Y/Nb ratio of 1/1 showed the maximum emission intensity. Under low voltage electron excitation maximum emission in-tensity appeared at the Y/Nb ratio of 0.495/0.505.
