선단압력을 고려한 무한폭 틸팅-패드 저어널 베어링의 정특성 및 동특성 해석 (An Analysis of the Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Infinite Width Tilting-Pad Journal Bearings in Consideration of Ram-Prssure)

  • In this paper, the influence of ram-pressure on the static and dynamic characteristics of infinite width tilting-pad journal bearing is investigated theoretically. The ram-pressure is obtained by assumption of conservation of mechanical energy of the lubricant flow through the leading edge of the pad. The pressure in the lubricating film is numerically calculated using the ram-pressure obtained as the inlet pressure boundary condition of the pad. The static equilibrium state of tilting-pad journal bearing is determined by Newton-Raphson iteration method. A numerical results are presented in graphic form and relationships between the ram-pressure and the static and dynamic characteristics are discussed.

  • An epicyclic gearing system is compact and lightweight. However, it is difficult to share the driving force equally because the system has closed gear trains with multiple driving points, and it always has geometrical errors in the elements. Thus, in the case of planetary gears, the first problem is how to distribute the load evenly to the numerous planets. The method widely used abroad for this purpose is to utilize the elastic deformation of the components of the structure. However, the deflection is very complicated, and it is very easy for vibration problems to occur because of the decrease in the natural frequencies. Therefore, to equalize the load on the planets, this paper discusses the principle and theory behind the functioning of a floating intermediate ring. This magnifies the displacement of a planet's center arising from the equilibrium of the load and the lubricating film pressure, which improves the compliance of the planets. The results show that load equalization of the planets is possible through this improvement in their compliance.

  • The effect of lubrication on the development of textures and Microstructure was studied by different lubricating condition during hot rolling of AA1050 aluminum alloy. Hot rolling without lubrication led to the evolution of the pronounced through-thickness texture gradients, whereas hot rolling with lubrication gave rise to the formation of uniform rolling texture in the whole thickness layer. The variation of texture and microstructure according to hot rolling condition are investigated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and Electron Back-Scattered Diffraction (EBSD). The experimental results were discussed base on the finite element method (FEM) simulation. FEM calculation reveals that a larger friction between roll and sheet causes the deviated strain state from a plane strain leading to the formation of shear textures in the thickness layers close to the surface.

Decision of Lubricated Friction Conditions for Materials of Automobile Transmission Gear Using Neural Network

  • It is hard to inspect the state of lubrication of an automobile transmission visually. Thus, it is necessary to develop a new inspection method. Wear debris can be collected from the lubricants of an operating transmission of an automobile, and its morphology will be directly related to the friction condition of the interacting materials from which the wear debris originated in the lubricated transmission. In this study, wear debris in lubricating oil are extracted by membrane filter $(0.45{\mu}m)$, and the quantitative values of shape parameters of wear debris are calculated by digital image processing. These shape parameters are studied and identified by an artificial neural network algorithm. The results of the study may be applicable to the prediction and diagnosis of the operating condition of transmission gear.

오일미스트 조건에서의 금형강의 최적절삭조건 (Optimum Machining Condition of Die Steel In The Oil-mist Condition)

  • The purposes of using cutting fluid during cutting have been cooling, lubricating, chip washing and anti-corroding. However, the present manufacturing industry restricts the use of cutting fluid because cutting fluid contains poisonous substances which are harmful to the human body. Therefore environmentally conscious machining and technology have more important position in machining process because cutting fluids have significant influence on the environment in milling process. In this study, environmentally conscious machining can be obtained by the way of selecting the optimum machinig conditon using the design of experiment. Cutting using oil-mist showed better cutting characteristics than dry, air and fluid cutting with respect to by cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness. Also, the optimum machining condition for cutting using oil-mist could be selected through Taguchi method.

  • Oil flow pass of hermetic scroll compressor with back pressure chamber was described. Dynamic analysis was preceded in order to obtain the loads on the lubricating contacts. The mobility method of dynamically loaded journal bearings was applied to the crank jornal bearing and lower main bearing, and they could be designed to operate under fluid film lubrication. From the consideration of their film thicknesses and oil flow rates, optimal bearing clearances or other bearing dimensions could be assessed. The major friction loss was calculated to be from the axial force between the two scrolls. Therefore, it was suggested that the designers should be careful to reduce the over-turning moment on the orbiting scroll.

  • This study dealt with some problems occurred in spectrometric oil analysis that has been popularly used for a machine condition monitoring in various fields of industry. One of the problems is that spectrometric technique could not analyze contaminants of large particle (larger than 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$) in lubricating oils. This limitation caused a serious problem in analyzing lubricated machine conditions since wear debris of large size represents better critical machine conditions. In this work, this problem was found to be solved by using a filtration method prior to spectrometric analysis. Another problem could be that spectrometric analysis is incapable of identifying contaminants. This nay mislead the result seriously in practice. This problem was surveyed by analyzing both various types of industrial lubricants and laboratory simulation tests, and the solutions to the problem were suggested in this work.

Al-Si 합금(合衾)의 마멸특성(磨滅特性)에 미치는 조성(組成)의 영향(影響) (The effects of composition on the wear characteristics of Al-Si alloys.)

  • The Wear Characteristics of Al-Si alloys were investigated with various Si contents by using the not-dispersed alloys and uncoated-graphite dispersed alloys. Uncoated-graphite dispersions were accomplished by Vortex method carrying 1 hr. heating at $400^{\circ}C$ on uncoated-graphite. Wear loss were increased by increasing Si contents at the elevated final load. Hyper-eutectic alloys showed higher wear resistance values at the small final load of 2.1Kg and 3.2Kg, but at the more increased final load, hypo-eutectic alloys showed higher wear resistance values than hyper-eutectic alloys. The property of wear resistance of uncoated-graphite dispersed Al-Si alloys showed more good values than not-dispersed alloys. This peroperty of increased war resistance were resulted from lubricating action of dispersed graphite.

  • EGR is an efficient method for reduction of NOx from diesel exhaust emission since it is simple to install with low cost and effective in its performance however it has demerits such as incresing wear on the moving parts of engines. stainning intake system and deteriorate lubricating oil. In order to reduce the soot contents in the recirculating gas to intake system of the engine, a proper filtering device was desined and manufactered for experiment system. It is aimed to grasp the characteristics of pollutant emissions including SFC on EGR system equipped with soot removal device.

TRIBOCHEMICAL ACTIVITY OF NASCENT METAL SURFACES

  • Chemical nature of nascent metal surfaces which is one of the important active sources for tribochemical reactions was investigated using a newly developed method. Some enhanced activities were observed. For example, organic compounds chemisorbed on nascent gold surfaces and aromatic compounds decomposed on nascent nickel surfaces resulting in hydrogen evolution. Non-polar compounds such as organic sulfides had a higher chemisorption activity on nascent steel surfaces than polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates. Organic sulfides reacted directly with nascent steel surfaces and the surface was covered with metal sulfides. The activity for the chemisorption of organic compounds was closely dependent on the electronic structure of metals. Although benzene chemisorbed very easily on nascent surfaces of transition metals, it did not chemisorb ell nascent surfaces of simple metals. Boundary lubricating behaviors of extreme pressure additives were explained on the bases of the chemical activities of nascent surfaces obtained in this investigation. Under mild conditions, polar compounds such as fatty acids and phosphates were effective for boundary lubrication, because surfaces are covered with oxide layers. On the other hand, sulfides were more effective under severe conditions where the oxide layers were removed and the nascent surfaces were formed.
