  • Engineering design involves the specification of many variables that define a product, how it is made, and how it behaves. Before some variables can be determined, other variables must first be known or assumed. This fact implies a precedence order of the variables, and of the tasks of determining these variable consequently. Moreover, design of complex systems may involve a large number of design activities. In this paper, the activity-activity incidence matrix is considered as a representation of design activity analysis which mainly focuses on the precedence constraint. In order to analyze the activity-activity incidence matrix, a heuristic algorithm is proposed, which transforms an activity-activity, parameter-formula, and parameter-parameter incidence matrix into a lower triangular form. The analysis of the structured matrices can not only significantly reduce the overall project complexity by reorganizing few critical tasks in practice, but also aims at obtaining shorter times considering the solution structure by exploring concurrency.

  • A ring R is a weakly stable ring provided that aR + bR = R implies that there exists $y\;{\in}\;R$ such that $a\;+\;by\;{\in}\;R$ is right or left invertible. In this article, we characterize weakly stable rings by virtue of $2{\times}2$ invertible matrices over them. It is shown that a ring R is a weakly stable ring if and only if for any $A\;{\in}GL_2(R)$, there exist two invertible lower triangular L and K and an invertible upper triangular U such that A = LUK, where two of L, U and K have diagonal entries 1. Related results are also given. These extend the work of Nagarajan et al.

  • Let A be a commutative ring with nonzero identity and let M be an A-module. In this note we show that if $x = x_1, ..., x_n\; and\; y = y_1, ..., y_n$ both M-cosequence such that $Hx^T = y^T\; for\; some\; n\times n$ lower triangular matrix H over A, then the map $\beta_H : \;Ann_M(y_1,..., y_n)\;\rightarrow Ann_M(x_1,..., x_n)$ induced by multiplication by |H| is surjective.

  • Axiomatic Design is the useful tool for making a good design. In Axiomatic design, the independency is an important property to determine whether the design is good. Until now many designers decide the independency between FRs by their own decision. The way depending on inspiration is simple and fast, but it can not be considered as precise conclusion. Also there are not exact rule that evaluate the quantitative independency between FRs. This thesis will show the way to evaluated the quantitative independency of FRs from the comparison between FRs of more lower levels, and develop more efficient and objective tool in Axiomatic Design.

  • Engineering design involves the specification of many variables that define a product, how it is made, and how it behaves applied to computer, communication and control fields. Before some variables can be determined, other variables must first be known or assumed. This fact implies a precedence order of the variables, and of the tasks of determining these variables consequently. Moreover, design of complex systems may involve a large number of design activities. In this paper, the activity-activity incidence matrix is considered as a representation of design activity analysis which mainly focuses on the precedence constraint with an object of doing IDEF3 in process-centered view.

  • To address the problem of multi-target retrieval (MTR) of remote sensing images, this study proposes a new object-level feature representation model. The model provides an enhanced application image representation that improves the efficiency of MTR. Generating the model in our scheme includes processes, such as object-oriented image segmentation, feature parameter calculation, and symbolic image database construction. The proposed model uses the spatial representation method of the extended nine-direction lower-triangular (9DLT) matrix to combine spatial relationships among objects, and organizes the image features according to MPEG-7 standards. A similarity metric method is proposed that improves the precision of similarity retrieval. Our method provides a trade-off strategy that supports flexible matching on the target features, or the spatial relationship between the query target and the image database. We implement this retrieval framework on a dataset of remote sensing images. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves competitive and high-retrieval precision.
