In this study, an asymmetric lifting posture prediction model was developed, which was a three-dimensional model with 12 links and 23 degrees of freedom open kinematic chains. Although previous researchers have proposed biomechanical, psychophysical, or physiological measures as cost functions, for solving redundancy, they lack in accuracy in predicting actual lifting postures and most of them are confined to the two-dimensional model. To develop an asymmetric lifting posture prediction model, we used the resolved motion method for accurately simulating the lifting motion in a reasonable time. Furthermore, in solving the redundant problem of the human posture prediction, a moment weighted Joint Range Availability (JRA) was used as a cost function in order to consider dynamic lifting. However, it is known that the moment weighted JRA as a cost function predicted the lower extremity and L5/S1 joint motions better than the upper extremities, while the constant weighted JRA as a cost function predicted the latter better than the former. To compensate for this, we proposed a hybrid moment weighted JRA as a new cost function with moment weighted for only the lower extremity. In order to validate the proposed cost function, the predicted and real lifting postures for various lifting conditions were compared by using the root mean square(RMS) error. This hybrid JRA reduced RMS more than the previous cost functions. Therefore, it is concluded that the cost function of a hybrid moment weighted JRA can be used to predict three-dimensional lifting postures. To compare with the predicted trajectories and the real lifting movements, graphical validations were performed. The results also showed that the hybrid moment weighted cost function model was found to have generated the postures more similar to the real movements.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for the development of pants patterns with a high level of fit and comfort through calculating surface variations of lower body parts by movement, grouping them into factors, and analyzing how their surface variations link to one another. The achieved results will help determine essential elements for constructing pants patterns, such as key measurements of lower body parts, the amount of ease values and selection of fabrics, which should be taken into consideration for allowing better movement in clothing. The study required lower body 3D scanning of women for analysis, and 13 women between the ages of 20-24 participated in the scanning, which was done by using Artec Eva 3D scanner. Their scanned data were digitalized and converted to measure the values of their lower body surface length and girth in pre-determined positions such as walking, stair climbing and sitting on a chair. These measurements have been statistically analyzed through SPSS 21.0 to obtain the average amounts and rates of extension for each of the measurement item. Some of the highlighted study results are as follows: The surface length and girth measurements were grouped into 4 factors based on their average extension rates. The results from correlation analysis between measurement items within each factor demonstrated that common items linked to all the changes in the values of other items in the three movements. But in most cases, items were not always correlated with each other for different movements. The results also showed that there were correlations between girth measurements, length measurements, and girth and length measurements. Therefore, key measurements for daily pants should be determined within reasonable estimations between relevant measurement items, while the measurements for work pants, which often withstand certain postures or repetitive movements, may require measurement items that are appro priate for, and closely related to, certain movements or tasks.

In this study, subway train vibration has been measured to characterize the whole body vibration of Seoul subway lines for various human postures. Results show that the floor vibration level of the subway trains in the vertical direction is higher than that in other directions. At the standing human posture, vibration level of the head in the right-left direction are increased while that in the vertical direction is decreased. It is assumed that the different flexibility of the human body and the rolling motion of the subway trains are the main cause. At the sitting posture with back seat on, vibration level in the right and left direction at the human ischial tuberosities is lower than that in other directions. Results also show that there were little difference between back-seat on model and back-seat off model. Transmissibility analysis shows how the subway vibration affects the response of a human body.
Objective: This study aimed to identify the effects of assuming two types of posture (standing and kneeling) during squat exercise on lower body muscle activity. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Twenty-five healthy adults (18 men and 7 women) were instructed to perform the squat exercises while assuming two types of posture (standing and kneeling). EMG (Electromyography) data (% maximum voluntary isometric contraction) were recorded three times from the rectus femoris (RF), gluteus maximus (GMax), gluteus medius (GMed) and biceps femoris (BF) of participant's dominant side and the mean values were analyzed. Results: During the squat exercise with all postures, there was statistically significant difference on rectus femoris, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and biceps femoris muscle activity (p<0.05). The results showed that, there was significantly greater rectus femoris, gluteus medius, and biceps femoris muscle activity in standing posture than in kneeling position (p<0.05). However, the gluteus maximus muscle activity was significantly greater with kneeling posture compared to standing posture (p<0.05). Conclusions: With standing posture, it is showed that rectus femoris, gluteus medius, and biceps femoris muscle activity was greater than kneeling position. While the gluteus maximus muscle activity with standing posture was less than with kneeling posture. Therefore, it is considered that this study can be used as a selective indicator of exercise posture for strengthening specific muscle or weakness caused by paralysis.
The present study provides reference data required for the design of clothing for the elderly by analyzing the body surface area during fitness motion based on 3D scan data of Korean elderly women. This study was conducted with the procedures of (1) survey of motions and main muscles for fitness, (2) acquisition of 3D scan data, and (3) analysis of rate of change for body surface area during fitness motion. Acquisition of 3D body scan data was obtained from seven elderly females (age: 64-77). We selected 66 anatomical landmarks (40 upper body and 22 lower body) by referring to previous studies. Body surface was segmented by connecting the landmarks marked on the 3D scan data acquired. Analysis of body surface area was conducted in terms of the change rate of surface area in 9 postures of elbow 0°, 90° and 180° for flexion, shoulder 90°, 180° for flexion, shoulder 0°, 180° for abduction, hip 90° for flexion, and knee 90° for flexion compared to the those in the standing posture. The amount of changes in body surface area were 12%-62% in the upper body, 15%-77% in the arm, and 10%-51% in the lower body. A future study on the rate of change of body surface length is needed; in addition, a study on how to apply the results of body surface area and body surface length analysis to clothing pattern design is also necessary.
Objectives : This study was designed to analyze whether General Coordinative Manipulation(GCM) Intervention could have effects on the balanced restoration of asymmetrical posture. Methods : Sixty eight(68) healthy volunteers(1st hypothesis: 46, 2nd hypothesis 22) participated in two GCM interventions, which have been performed 2 times a week for 3 weeks. The Global Postural System(GPS) Unit was used to measure the posture, and measurements were performed before and after the application of each intervention group. A paired t-test and wilcoxon test were used to determine the statistical significance. Results : The outcome of examining the hypothesis is as follows: 1. The 1st hypothesis: It has been proved that GCM Intervention, which coordinates the flexion type of upper extremity and the extension type of lower extremity, excluding self-care, shows the efficiency in treatment on more than two aspects of 3 parts: anterior, posterior and lateral postures, and the effects on more than 3 of 4 body types. 2. The 2nd hypothesis: It has been proved that GCM Intervention, which coordinates the flexion type of lower extremity and the extension type of upper extremity, excluding self-care, shows the treatment in efficiency on more than two aspects of 3 parts: anterior, posterior and lateral postures, and the effects on more than 2 of 3 body types. Conclusions : GCM intervention programs on the two hypothesis groups have an affect on the balanced restoration of the postural control system.
The purpose of this study is the fundamental study to develope basic slacks pattern for pregnant women by analysing characteristics of the lower half of their body. The results are as followers: 1. The pregnancy has changed almost all items including the waist height, lengths and etc. and changed proportion of body by accumulation of fat. 2. The changes of the waist circumference and flat figure from waist to hip could be found by analysing the body shell (pregnant women from five months pregnance to one month after delivery). 3. The postures of five month-pregnant women were compared with those of six, seven, eight, and nine month-pregnant women, and with those of one month after delivery. The waist height has been increased till the middle of pregnancy but lowed till the end of the pregnancy.
Objective: This study looks into biomechanical variables occurring when one moves in a sitting posture, and presents objective references to make improvements in work environments of farm workers. Background: The farmers have more common musculoskeletal disorders compared to other professions, because they are much more exposed to biomechanical risk factors. The sitting posture that is the representative form of the squatted, can cause typical knee joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis or patellofemoral pain syndrome of the knee joint. Therefore, a quantitative study of knee load upon the movement in a squatting posture is required. Method: In order to proceed with its investigation, the study examined movements in a sitting posture with and without a lower body supporter through a threedimensional image analysis and by using Surface EMG. The study compared and analyzed the average muscle activity and the maximum muscle activity as well. Results: Every movement in a sitting posture is related to loads onto the knee joints and, when the farm workers move to sides, the study observed a high level of bowlegged moment. The study also noticed differences in muscle activity of medial gastrocnemius with and without the lower body supporter. Conclusion and Application: The study argues that what has been discussed so far is evidence to prove how the farm working environments should be improved in consideration of these movements observed when the farm workers move in a sitting posture.

The goal of this study is to analysis natural frequency for different static postures of human leg. To perform this research human leg is modeled by multi-body modeling for the musculoskeletal system. This leg model has biarticular muscles which acting on two joints and the muscles represents some of the major muscles, such as hamstring, of the upper and lower limbs. To obtain each static equilibrium position energy method is employed and to analysis natural frequency linearization method for constrained mechanical system is employed. Static equilibrium position depends on some parameter or condition such as hamstring stiffness or external force. Making a change these parameter the aim of this research can be performed.
The purpose of this study is to develop improved boom structures with reliable fatigue strength of weldment and lower production cost. For that purpose, multi-body dynamic analysis was performed to evaluate forces acting on arm & boom cylinders and joints of boom structure during operation of an excavator for three working postures, then stress analysis was made to investigate stress distribution around diaphragms at the bottom plate of boom structures which was known to be susceptible to fatigue failures of welded joints, and finally boom structures with optimum arrangement of diaphragms was proposed. This work mainly consists of the following two parts: part 1 focuses on multi-body dynamic analysis of excavators during operation and part 2 includes evaluations of fatigue strength of welded joints for modified boom structures.
