Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the accuracy of single crowns based on the type of occlusal surface. Methods: A single crown wax pattern was fabricated in three types of occlusal surface. The prepared wax pattern was replicated with silicone, and stone was injected to create a stone model. The prepared specimens were scanned using a model scanner. Scans were classified into three groups, and each scan was performed six times to analyze the trueness and precision of a single crown. In addition, only the occlusal surface area was analyzed for trueness and precision. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis H test, a nonparametric test (α=0.05). Results: With regard to the trueness value of the occlusal scan area, the no occlusal tooth attrition (NA) group showed the largest error of 3.5 ㎛, and the complete occlusal tooth attrition (CA) group showed the lowest value of 3.1 ㎛. The NA group had the greatest precision, and the medium occlusal tooth attrition (MA) group and CA group showed a low precision value of 3.2 ㎛; the difference between the groups was statistically significant (α=0.05). In the color difference map, the CA group showed a lower error than the NA group. Conclusion: The occlusal surface with severe attrition had excellent accuracy, but the accuracy of the group without attrition was low. There were significant differences between groups, but clinically acceptable values were shown.

This study aimed to investigate the treatment options for the delayed eruption of mandibular premolars and identify the predictors of spontaneous eruption using panoramic radiography. The prevalence of delayed mandibular premolar eruption in this retrospective analysis, comprising 254 patients (aged 9 - 15 years), was 5.19%, with no significant difference based on gender. The mandibular second premolars were most affected (4.39%) compared to the first premolars (0.76%). No significant difference in prevalence was observed between the left and right sides. Among the treated mandibular premolars, primary molar-related lesions were identified as the leading cause (7.85%) of delayed tooth eruption. The treatment duration varied based on the Nolla stage, eruption stage, and treatment method. Teeth with Nolla stage 7 or lower had a treatment duration of 22.89 ± 11.96 months, whereas those with stage 8 or higher had a 15.02 ± 6.34 month duration. The deeper the tooth was located in the bone, the longer the treatment period became. The treatment duration varied depending on the treatment method, and statistically, there was no significant difference. The treatment durations for affected mandibular premolars increased with the depth of impaction angle of inclination. In this study, the treatment duration for delayed eruptions varied depending on the Nolla stage, eruption stage, and treatment method. Variations in the impaction depth and inclination angle across various treatment approaches, as explored in this study, might offer valuable insights into the selection of the most suitable management options for delayed tooth eruptions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate crop growth responses under various rain shelters which were devised to improve the indoor environment in summer season. For developing the proper type of rain shelter, the improved rain shelters with the roof of saw - tooth type(saw-tooth type) and 3 span-arch type(improved arch type) were compared with the conventional one with the roof of single arch type(conventional arch type) and no rain shelter (open field ). The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The air temperature in the improved arch type was 4$^{\circ}C$ and 1$^{\circ}C$ lower than those in the conventional arch type and the saw - tooth type, respectively. 2. The air temperature drop by the evaporative cooling + improved drainage was 1.3$^{\circ}C$ which was 0.9$^{\circ}C$lower than that by the improved drainage only. 3. The effect of labour saving in the saw-tooth type was superior to any other type because its frames were used as props and the labour for ventilation was not needed. 4. The highest marketable yield of tomato was 4,897kg/10a in the improved arch type and the total leaf areas which related to photosynthesis was the largest in the saw - tooth type. 5. The improved arch type was proved to be proper to raise yield potential. The effect of the underground environment treatment on the quality and quantity of vegetable showed to be outstanding in the saw- tooth type with the evaporative cooling + improved drainage, and in the improved and conventional arch type with the trickle improved drainage. 6. In conclusion, the saw - tooth type and the improved arch type were proved to be labour saving rain shelters and the indoor environments in both types were better than that in the conventional arch type.
The purpose of this study was to collect the information of the straight-wire appliance and to determine the amount of second-order bends in clinical orthodontics. The author analysed the study model of 50 individuals with normal occlusion and results were obtained as follows. 1. The crown angulation was 4 degree in upper central incisor, 7 degree in upper lateral incisor, and 0 degree in lower central incisor and lateral incisor. 2. The crown angulation was 8 degree in upper cuspid and 2 degree in lower cuspid. 3. The crown angulations were 4 degree in upper first bicuspid, upper second bicuspid and lower second bicuspid and 1 degree in lower first bicuspid. 4. The crown angulation was 3 degree in upper first molar, 0 degree in upper second molar, 5 degree in lower first molar and 8 degree in lower second molar. 5. The crown angulations in lower arch were progressively increased from first premolar to second molar. 6. In upper arch, as the crown angulation of one tooth was increased, those of adjacent teeth were increased, too. 7. In the case of lower arch, the crown angulation of cuspid was increased as that of lateral incisor was increased, the crown angulation of second premolar was increased as that of first premolar was increased, and similarity the crown angulation of second molar was increased as that of first molar was increased.

Fibrous dysplasia(FD) is a benign fibro-ossifying disease in which fibrous tissue replaces normal bone and marrow. Craniofacial bones, including the maxilla and mandible, are commonly involved. A 7 year-old girl visited the clinic with a chief complaint of gingival swelling around the lower left primary molar. Mild bulging of the lower left periodontal tissue was observed. Not only the mandible, but also the maxilla, zygoma, sphenoid, and temporal bones were affected by FD. Permanent tooth germs were involved in the lesions and facial asymmetry was caused by lower left bone expansion. She was scheduled for a follow-up visit at the department of pediatric dentistry and oromaxillofacial surgery.
Background: There are no studies regarding 4% articaine infiltration injection into the retro-molar area for an impacted lower third molar (LITM) surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of infiltration using 1.7 ml (single cartridge: SC) of 4% articaine versus 3.4 ml (double cartridges: DC) of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine in LITM surgery. Method: This study involved 30 healthy patients with symmetrical LITM. The patients were assigned to receive either a DC or SC of 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine as a local anesthetic for each operation. Onset, duration, profoundness, need for additional anesthetic administration, total volume of anesthetic used, vitality of the tooth, and pain score during operation were recorded. Results: The DC of 4 % articaine had a significantly higher success rate (83.3%) than did the SC (53.3%; P<0.05). The duration of soft tissue anesthesia was longer in the DC group. The intra-operative pain was higher in the SC group with a significant (P < 0.05) requirement for a supplementary local anesthetic. Conclusion: We concluded that using DC for the infiltration injection had a higher success rate, longer duration of anesthesia, less intra-operative pain, and a lower amount of additional anesthesia than SC in the surgical removal of LITM. We recommend that a DC of 4% articaine and a 1:100,000 epinephrine infiltration in the retro-molar region can be an alternative anesthetic for LITM surgery.
Reconstruction of the lower lip requires consideration of several factors. There should be retained sensation, maintenance of oral sphincter function, and a large enough opening for the mouth. In addition, it is important to achieve an aesthetically acceptable appearance. Webster's modification of Bernard operation is one of good methods which satisfy above mentioned goals. The purpose of this article is to present the results and review the perioperative problems after reconstruction of the lower lip by this operation. We reviewed seven patients after surgical reconstruction by the same method between January of 1996 and December of 2003. Five patients were male and two were female. The mean follow-up period was 15 months. We obtained functionally and cosmetically acceptable appearance after reconstruction. Most of the reconstructed lower lips were large enough for full mouth opening, but one patient required additional commissuroplasty, and one other patient was treated with wound revision for dehiscence resulting from protrusion of mandibular lateral incisor tooth. All other patients accepted their facial appearance. In conclusion, careful planning and consideration for dental problems and proper closure tension may ensure satisfactory outcome & lower lip competence, when using this modified operative method for lower lip reconstruction.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth whitening and properties of an enamel surface after treatments with tooth bleaching agents that contained dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) and hydrogen peroxide (HP). Thirty specimens were obtained from fifteen premolar and were randomly divided into three groups (n=10): 1, 3.5% HP + 0 g DCPD; 2, 3.5% HP + 0.1 g DCPD; 3. 3.5% HP + 1 g DCPD. All groups were bleached 8 hours per day for 14 days. With increasing DCPD concentration, the pH values in the agents increased, making it less acidic. However, there was no statistically significant difference (p>.05). As the concentration of DCPD was increased, the concentration of Ca and P was also increased. In all groups, after the tooth whitening, the tooth color was found to have a value of $L^*$ (p<.05). All groups showed significantly decreased enamel microhardness compared to their baseline (p<.05). The percentage microhardness loss (PML) of the group A1 and A2 were significantly lower than that of group A3. The obvious variation of morphology was observed on enamel surfaces in group A1. Following an analysis of the constituents of enamel surface after bleaching, as DCPD content was increased, the amount of Ca and P was increased. In this study, the experimental results suggest that DCPD/HP agent less demineralization changes such as the erosion morphology and hardness loss without compromising whitening efficiency.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on periodontal healing of replanted root surfaces in dogs histologically and histomorphometrically. Methods: A total of 36 roots of mandibular incisors and premolars from 6 mongrel dogs were used. The roots were randomly divided into 3 groups: 1) a positive control group (n=12), in which the periodontal ligament (PDL) and cementum were retained and the roots were soaked in saline; 2) a negative control group (n=12), in which the PDL and cementum were removed and the roots were soaked in saline; and 3) an experimental group (n=12), in which the PDL and cementum were removed and the roots were soaked in PRP. After soaking the root surfaces, the extracted roots were replanted into the extraction sockets. The roots were covered using a coronally repositioned flap Results: Histologically, irregular-thickness PDL-like and cementum-like tissues were observed in the 4-week experimental group and the positive control group. PDL-like tissue and cementum-like tissue with a more uniform thickness were observed at 8 weeks. In the negative control group, PDL-like tissue and cementum-like tissue were rarely found, and root resorption and ankylosis were observed. In the cross-sectional histomorphometric analysis, the experimental group demonstrated a higher rate of formation of cementum-like tissue and a lower tooth ankylosis rate than the positive and negative control groups at 4 and 8 weeks. Although there was a significant difference in the tooth ankylosis rate and the formation of cementum-like tissue across the 3 groups (P<0.05), no statistical significance was observed between any pair of groups (P>0.017). Conclusions: Applying PRP to root surfaces during tooth replantation in dogs can reduce tooth ankylosis and increase PDL-like and cementum-like tissue formation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of surgical stent according to the supported type. Materials and methods: 5 sets of dental models which have tooth supported edentulous area and tooth-tissue supported edentulous area were made. Dental model were scanned with model scanner, and CBCT was taken. CT data and model scan data were overlapped using In2Guide software, implant were virtually planned in the software. Surgical stents are fabricated by 3D printing. The implant fixture were installed using the surgical stent, CBCT were retaken. CBCT before surgery and after surgery were overlapped, and the differences (angle difference, coronal difference, apical difference) were evaluated using statistical analysis. Results: In the assessment of the accuracy of surgical guides according to arch type, there are no statistically significant differences between maxilla and mandible. In the case of support type, tooth supported stents showed lower angle difference and length difference than tooth-tissue supported stents, which are statistically significant. Conclusion: Arch type does not affect the accuracy of surgical stents. But tooth support stents are more accurate than tooth-tissue support stents in the case of angle and length difference.
