The effect of cooling rate on the damping capacity of pure Mg was studied. Two Mg samples with different cooling rates were prepared by heat treatment at 873 K for 24 h, followed by water quenching and by furnace cooling to room temperature, respectively. The average grain sizes of the Mg samples were almost identical regardless of the cooling rate, but more twins were observed in the sample with faster cooling rate. The calculated vacancy fraction was higher in the fast cooling sample than the slow cooling one. It is noted that the fast cooling sample exhibited lower damping capacity both in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions. Higher values of vacancy concentration and number density of twins in the fast cooling sample are considered to be responsible for the deteriorated damping capacity in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of cooling vests developed for farm workers harvesting red pepper in summer. The study was performed using the following two steps: 1) Climatic chamber test, 2) Field test. For the chamber test, a work environment was simulated as $33^{\circ}C$ and $65\%$RH, and the thermo-physiological and subjective responses were measured with and without cooling vests. Twelve young males participated as subjects. For the field test, three farmers participated while harvesting red pepper on the form, in summer. The measurements used were same as in the chamber test. Subjects were tested without any cooling vests, as a control. They were tested wearing vests with 2 frozen gel packs (CV2: Cooling area, $308cm^2$), and vests with 4 frozen gel packs (CV4: Sooting area, $616cm^2$). As a result of the chamber test, rectal temperature($T_{re}$) and mean skin temperature( $T_{sk}$) were lower in both CVs than in Control, and this tendency was statistically significant in CV4 (p<.05). Clothing microclimate temperature ($T_{clo}$) and total sweat rate (TSR) were significantly lower when wearing cooling vests (p<.05) Heart rate (HR) was also lower in wearing cooling vests than in Control, and the speed of recovery to the comfort level was faster when the subjects wore cooling vests. In addition, subjects felt 'less hot, less humid, and less uncomfortable' in both CVs than in Control. Field tests showed a similar tendency with the chamber tests. In particular, wearing the cooling vest was effective in restraining the raise of $T_{clo}$ on the back. It can be concluded that the cooling vest was effective in alleviating heat strain and discomfort in both the chamber test and the field test, despite the cooling area of the cooling vest being just $3.4\%$ of the body surface area ($616cm^2$).
Temperature field and cooling rate are important parameters to influence the properties of clad layer and the heat affected zone. In this paper the temperature field and cooling rate of laser cladding are studied by a two-dimensional time-dependent finite element model. Experiment has been carried out by Nd:YAG laser cladding with wire feeding. Research results indicate that at the beginning of cladding, the width and depth of melt pool increase with cladding time. The cooling rate is related to position, cladding time, cladding speed, and preheating temperature. The temperature near melt pool changes rapidly while the temperature far from melt pool changes slowly. With the increase of cladding time, cooling rate decreases. The further the distance from the melt pool, the lower the temperature and the slower the cooling rate. The faster the cladding speed, the faster the cooling rate. The higher the preheating temperature, the slower the cooling rate. The FEM results coincide well with the experiment results.

This study aimed at measuring the latent heat of phase transformation of S45C carbon steel in quenching and at conducting the analytical researches into the calculation of cooling curves including the latent heat. The temperature of phase transformation of steel and its latent heat are dependant upon the cooling rates at the temperature of A1 phase transformation point. The effect of the latent heat of phase transformation is especially manifest at the cooling curve of center of specimens. The higher the cooling rates became, the lower fell the temperature region of phase transformation. In the figures of cooling rates, the phenomena of cooling rate dropping into zero was caused by the latent heat of phase transformation.
Cooling demand in Korea has increased constantly. Furthermore, an evaluation and savings of cooling demand has impacted on summer DSM and investment in Korea. Absorbed cooling system uses gas. It could achieve reductions in summer peak load and increase gas demand simultaneously. However its efficiency rate is lower than electric system. Gas cooling system uses separate meter. Therefore we could analyze monthly cooling demand and derive annual uses pattern. This paper analyzes demand pattern of gas cooling and its effects on electricity savings. Also this paper presents the course of policy in electricity sector on spreading of gas cooling measures.

This paper presents a split cooling system for a new inline 4-cylinder automotive engine. The split cooling system circulates coolant to the cylinder head and cylinder block separately. The coolant flow in the cylinder block is controlled by a $2^{nd}$ Thermostat installed at the outlet of cylinder block. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat closes when the coolant temperature is low. And this makes the coolant flow in cylinder block nearly stagnant, thereby reducing the coolant-side heat transfer coefficient and raising cylinder bore temperature. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat starts to open when the coolant temperature reaches a specified temperature. The test results on engine dynamometer show improved fuel economy and lower exhaust emission which result from the decrease in friction works and cooling loss. Also, several vehicle tests, with application of the new engine have been performed. Fuel economy improvement of 0.5{\sim}2.0%$ yields from different test modes and details are discussed in this paper.

This study was performed to improve underirable warm greenhouse environment by fog cooling system in summer season. The resultsof droplet size analysis and cooling effects for fog cooling system are summarized as follows ; 1. At the pump pressure of 70kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ , the mean (SMD) drop size was 22.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and the maximum and minimum drop size was 45.68${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 1.73${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ , respectively, and almost all of the drop size was less than 40${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. 2. The temperature of fog cooling greenhouse with 60% shading was dropped more than 2$^{\circ}C$ below the ambient temperature , while the greenhouse temperature without shading was 1$^{\circ}C$ higher than the ambient temperature. 3. It was found that fog spraying intervals were significantly influential on cooling effect. 4. When the greenhouse was ventilated sufficiently by natural vent system, green house temperature could be maintained by 2.5$^{\circ}C$ lower than the ambient temperature, while it was difficult to drop the greenhouse temperature below ambient temeperature without sufficient ventilation. 5. It was found that the temperature of experimental greenhouse could be maintained 3$^{\circ}C$ to 14$^{\circ}C$ lower that of control greenhouse though there were variations depending on experimental and weather conditions.

This study comparatively analyzed thermal characteristics of the green color, which is currently used the most, and other various colors of a rooftop urethane water proofing sheet. This study also analyzed the cooling performance by color of the water proofing sheet that fused cooling paints, and presented the effective water proofing sheet color for building energy savings. The experimental results are as follows: (1) The value of L (brightness) diminished, and brilliance also became lower from the white color to the black color, and thus, it was confirmed that relatively more heat was absorbed. In a and b chromaticity, which is the color attribute that ignores brightness, no special relationship was identified. (2) Considering that the cooling performance effect is bigger in summer than winter, due to heat reflection, the white water proofing sheet is more effective in building energy savings than the green water proofing sheet that is currently used the most. (3) The water proofing sheet's color has an impact more on cooling performance than the color of the background side of a structure on which water proofing sheet is installed. The experiment object of gray, of which background side is similar to cement mortar, was lower by $5.7^{\circ}C$ than the white background side.
A thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is promising as an alternative refrigeration technology for the sake of its inherent advantages; no-moving parts and refrigerant-free in its operation. Due to the compactness, reliability and excellence in temperature stability, TECs have been widely used for small cooling devices. In recent years, thermoelectric devices have been attractive technologies that not only serve the needs of cooling and heating applications but also meet the demand for energy by recycling waste heat. In this research paper, multistage TEC is proposed as a concept of demonstrating the idea of transient cooling technology. The key idea of transient cooling is to harnesses the thermal mass installed at the interfacial level of the stages. By storing heat temporally at the thermal mass, the multistage TEC can readily reach lower temperatures than that by a steady-state operation. The multistage TEC consists of four different sizes of thermoelectric modules and they are operated with an optimized current. Once the cold-part of the uppermost stage is reached at the no-load temperature, the current is successively supplied to the lower stages with a certain time interval; 25, 50 and 75 seconds. The results show the temperatures that can be ultimately reached at the cold-side of the lowermost stage are 197, 182 and 237 K, respectively. It can be concluded that the timing or total amount of the current fed to each thermoelectric module is the key parameter to determine the no-load temperature.

In this study, comparative analysis of energy performance in Taebaek city, a test area, by applying hydrothermal, geothermal source and hybrid heat pump system to office, school and smart farms with different internal heat loads. The conclusion is as follows. In the load characteristics by use of buildings, it was found that office had a large cooling load compared to heating load, school had a large heating load compared to cooling load, and smart farm had only cooling load year-round. Performance analysis of the heat pump system in office shows that the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source is 5.12% and the heating COP is 3.22% lower based on the geothermal source, the cooling COP of the hybrid is 0.41% higher, and the heating COP is the difference in performance appeared sparsely. The performance analysis of the heat pump system in school showed that the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source was 10.44% and the heating COP 3.22% lower based on the geothermal source, and the performance difference between the hybrid cooling and heating COP was insignificant. Heat pump system performance analysis in smart farm only occurred with cooling load. Based on geothermal sources, the cooling COP of the hydrothermal source was 46% and the cooling COP of the hybrid was 19.65%, respectively.
