  • Low voltage circuit breakers which interrupt rapidly and raise the reliability of power supply are widly used in power distribution systems. In the paper, it was investigated how much Interrupting capability was improved by correcting the shape of the contact system in molded case circuit breaker(below MCCB), especially arc runner. Prior to the interrupting testing, it was necessary for the optimum design to analyze electromagnetic forces on the contact system, generated by current and flux density. This paper presents both our compuational analysis and test results on contact system in MCCB

  • The electrostatic precipitator (ESP) has been used for degrading atmospheric pollutants. These devices induce the electrical forces to facilitate the removal of particulate pollutants. The ions travel from the high voltage electrode to the grounded electrode by Coulomb force induced by the electric field when a high voltage is applied between two electrodes. The ions collide with gas molecules and exchange momentum with each other thus inducing fluid motion, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow. In this study, for the simulation of electric field and EHD flow in ESPs, an open source EHD solver, "espFoam", has been developed using open source CFD toolbox, OpenFOAM(R) (Open Field Operation and Manipulation). The electric potential distribution and ionic space charge density distribution were obtained with the developed solver, and validated with experimental results in the literature. The comparison results showed good agreement. Turbulence model is also incorporated to simulate turbulent flow; hence the developed solver can analyze laminar and turbulent flow. In distributions of electric potential and space charge, the distributions become distorted and asymmetric as the flow velocity increases. The effect of electrical drift flow was investigated for different flow velocities and the secondary flow in a flow of low velocity is successfully predicted.

  • 동기발전기의 출력전압은 여자 시스템의 계자 전류 제어에 의해 일정하게 유지된다. 현재 대부분의 발전기 여자기의 여자전류제어를 위해 사용되는 AVR 시스템의 AC/DC 컨버터 부는 출력전압 제어가 가능한 위상제어 컨버터나 출력전압을 제어할 수 없는 다이오드 정류기와 DC/DC 컨버터를 결합하여 사용하고 있다. AC/DC 전력 변환장치로서 위상제어 컨버터나 출력전압을 제어할 수 없는 다이오드 정류기의 경우, AVR시스템의 전력을 공급하는 모선의 역률저하 및 저차 고조파 발생의 문제점을 야기 시키게 된다. 본 논문에서는 동기발전기의 여자전류 제어를 위해 사용되는 AVR 시스템 설계에 있어 단위역률 동작이 가능한 Boost형 AC/DC 컨버터와 모선의 부하변동에 속응성 있게 동작할 수 있는 전류 제어형 Buck 컨버터를 결합한 2단 3상 PWM AC/DC 컨버터에 대해 연구하였다. 제안된 AC/DC 컨버터를 시뮬레이션 한 결과 Boost 컨버터의 경우 단위 역률 동작 및 출력 DC 전압의 Boost 동작이 원할히 이루어졌으며, Buck 컨버터의 경우 다른 위상제어 컨버터에 비해 응답시간이 개선되었음을 알 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, characteristics of Acoustic Emission in Low Density Polyethylene were studied from tree initiation to breakdown under long-term inhomogeneous alternative electrical field. The voltage levels used were 9, 11 and 14[kV]. Especially, a newly developed automatic measuring system was used to measure time variations of AE average amplitude, AE pulse number, AE pulse distribution patterns due to polarities. The patterns wer specially the variated patterns, when tree propagated. Also, parameters for dielectric breakdown prediction, which were suggested by Okamoto, were calculated. The result was analysed by tree shapes and partial discharge activities in tree due to tree initiation and propagation.

  • This paper describes a modeling and current control techniques of Distribution static condenser (D-STATCON) for power factor compensation. The current control is based on the predictive and the space vector PWM scheme. The predictive current controlled PWM D-STATCON can maintain its performance with power factor compensation and fixed switching frequency. By using the space vector control low ripple and offset in the current and the voltage as well as fast dynamic responses are achieved with a small DC link capacitance employed.

Electrothermal Analysis for Super-Junction TMOSFET with Temperature Sensor

  • For a conventional power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET), there is a trade-off between specific on-state resistance and breakdown voltage. To overcome this trade-off, a super-junction trench MOSFET (TMOSFET) structure is suggested; within this structure, the ability to sense the temperature distribution of the TMOSFET is very important since heat is generated in the junction area, thus affecting its reliability. Generally, there are two types of temperature-sensing structures-diode and resistive. In this paper, a diode-type temperature-sensing structure for a TMOSFET is designed for a brushless direct current motor with on-resistance of $96m{\Omega}{\cdot}mm^2$. The temperature distribution for an ultra-low on-resistance power MOSFET has been analyzed for various bonding schemes. The multi-bonding and stripe bonding cases show a maximum temperature that is lower than that for the single-bonding case. It is shown that the metal resistance at the source area is non-negligible and should therefore be considered depending on the application for current driving capability.

  • As the grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PVPCS) are installed in many residential areas, this has raised potential problems of network protection on electrical power system. One of the numerous problems is an Island phenomenon. There has been an argument that because the probability of islanding is extremely low it may be a non-issue in practice. However, there are three counter-arguments: First, the low probability of islanding is based on the assumption of 100% power matching between the PVPCS and the islanded local loads. In fact, an island can be easily formed even without 100% power matching (the power mismatch could be up to 30% if only traditional protections are used, e.g. under/over voltage/frequency). The 30% power-mismatch condition will drastically increase the islanding probability. Second, even with a larger power mismatch, the time for voltage or frequency to deviate sufficient to cause a trip, plus the time required to execute the trip (particularly if conventional switchgear is required to operate), can easily be greater than the typical re-close time on the distribution circuit. And, third, the low-probability argument is based on the study of PVPCS. Especially, if the output power of PVPCS equals to power consumption of local loads, it is very difficult for the PVPCS to sustain the voltage and frequency in an island. Unintentional islanding of PVPCS may result in power-quality issues, interference to grid-protection devices, equipment damage, and even personnel safety hazards. So the verification of anti-islanding performance is strongly needed. In this paper, the authors propose the improved RPV method through considering power quality and anti-islanding capacity of grid-connected three-phase PVPCS in IEEE Std 1547 ("Standard for Interconnecting Distributed Resources to Electric Power Systems"). And the simulation and experimental results are verified.

저전압 전기설비의 온라인 감시시스템 구축을 위한 국내외 실태조사 (The Survey of Domestic and Foreign for On-Line Monitoring System at Low Voltage Facilities)

  • 본 논문에서는 전기안전에 대한 부가서비스 같은 저전압 전기설비의 온라인 감시시스템 구축을 위한 국내외 실태조사를 수행하였다. 일본은 미래 정보화 사회를 위해 IT 기본법에 근거한 온라인 전기설비 감시시스템 서비스를 실시하고 있으며, 전기안전뿐만 아니라 지진이나 방범등의 부가서비스를 실시하고 있었다. 미국 및 유럽에서는 전력선 통신을 사용하여, 온라인 감시 및 빌딩군 관리 서비스를 실시하고 있었다. 국내에서도 전기안전과 관련하여 디지털 수배전반 등을 통해 누설전류 측정, 부하관리 등에 대한 서비스를 일부 기업에서 서비스를 실시하고 있었다. 실태조사를 통해, 국내에서도 시장 활성화를 위한 법, 제도적 개선이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

개선된 자기소호회로와 아크전압 억제회로를 사용한 유도성 부하의 직류차단 특성 실험 (Experiment on DC Circuit Breaker for Inductive Load by Improved Magnetic Arc-extinguisher and Arc-Attenuation Circuit)

  • Recently, DC distribution systems become hot issues since DC type loads increase rapidly according to the expansion of IT equipment such as computers, servers, and digital devices; DC type loads will cover 50% for all electricity loads in 2020 which was mere 10% in 2000. DC distribution systems are also accelerated by the expansion of renewable power systems since they are easy to be interfaced with DC grids rather than AC grids. However, removing the fault current in DC grids is comparably difficult since the current in DC grids has non zero-crossing point like in AC grids. Thus, developing dedicated DC circuit breakers for DC grids is necessary to get safety for human and electrical facilities. Magnet arc extinguishing method is proper to small size DC circuit breakers. However, simple Magnet arc extinguishing method is not enough to break inductive fault currents. This paper proposed a novel DC circuit breaker against inductive fault current defined by IEEE C37.14-2004 Standard for Low-Voltage DC Power Circuit Breakers Used in Enclosures. The performance of the proposed DC circuit breaker was verified by an experimental circuit breaker test system built in this research.

  • 고분자 용액의 전기분무에서 금속 샘플 포집기들은 분무된 입자로부터 흔히 용매를 충분히 제거하거나 재분산이 가능한 분무 입자를 회수하는데 효과적이지 못하다. 단백질 약물의 캡슐화(encapsulation)를 위해 본 연구에서는 입자를 분산매(응고액제)의 층류 안으로 분무하는 새로운 전기분무시스템을 설계하였다. 캡슐화용 물질로 키토산과 폴리아크릴산이 사용되었다. 이 새로운 시스템을 사용하여 입자의 응집을 방지할 수 있었으며, 4~16 kV의 전압과 같은 유속에서 unimodal한 입도분포를 관찰할 수 있었다. 반면에 가한 전압이 평균 입자 크기에 미치는 영향은 크지 않았다.
